To think that not many people have traditional Sunday roast anymore?

When I was a younger we literally had a roast dinner every Sunday and having something different was never an option. The roast was usually at my grandmas house and always followed by salad for tea.

So after preparing my meatloaf and jacket potatoes for tonight’s tea I was just wondering how many people still have a roast on sundays? Or did you have other food related traditions that you still follow now?

Just curious Smile

We still do this and ensure it’s the one day of the week that we all sit at the table to eat. Roast chicken was today’s menu with all the trimmings

We do every week, chicken, pork or Quorn roast roll. I find it a really easy meal to cook just chuck it all in the oven on a timer job done. And so comforting, had one tonight!

FrenchyQ · 13/01/2019 19:33

We probably have a roast once or twice a month and not always on a Sunday.
I find it odd not having one on a Sunday but there's only 2 to cook for so i don't really see the point (I'm a vegan now and daughter works all day and has dinner at her boyfriends house).

I love a roast dinner! Usually have it round 5-6 though.
Not having it tonight as just me and DH ( and I forgot to take pork out freezer anyway). So pork chops with a nice sauce, veg and croquets tonight.

We have one regularly.

Today was roast rack of venison, roast potatoes, carrots, tender stem broccoli and red wine gravy. It was delicious!

I've just had this venison with beef and ale gravy done in the slow cooker, it was lovely. Homemade Yorkshire puds too Smile

@bluearsedfly36 would love that slow cooker recipe!

Parents do one every single Sunday. I miss living at home (live other end of country so can’t just pop in) and I miss her yorkies loads.

I’m shit at roasts so rarely do them but I liked the tradition growing up.. especially as a late teen when I’d wake up hungover!

I love the idea of a roast every Sunday but in reality it's not possible for us. DP works M-F and I work 3 days a week, one of which is a Saturday so Sundays are our only day off together. So, some weeks, we either have things to catch up on, just fancy a lazy day, visit the in-laws or have a family day out. Also I cook every week day, so it's nice for DP to take over on the weekends and he's not confident in doing a dinner.

Hopefully when the kids are older, and I'm not working on the weekends, well be able to have it more often. We used to have more traditional Meals on a Sunday instead (cottage pie, etc) but that went out the window during the delightful first trimester this time.

I do love a good roast dinner though!

I like roasts abs yes we did seem to have them every Sunday or fairly regularly growing up. It made Sundays seem special or grander somehow.

We go out most Sundays. But I think perhaps from January till the weather becomes more clement it's a nice idea

Onescaredmuma · 13/01/2019 20:01

Nearly every Sunday I gave it a miss this week as DH working for his 3rd weekend in a row I just can't be bothered to look after a clingy baby and 2 terrors running riot and cook the full Sunday dinner then inevitably clean up after it too. so I opted for something slightly easier tonight. I will definitely make up for it next week though I missed out on my Yorkshire puddings Sad which are pretty good if I do say so myself!

Bluearsedfly36 · 13/01/2019 20:13

@HelenaJustina I've pm'd you xx

yummumto3girls · 13/01/2019 20:15

Normally every 6 weeks, working full time i’m buggered if I am giving up one of my free days to cook a roast! Had about 4 over Xmas so will be a while until we have one again!

rose789 · 13/01/2019 20:21

Every Sunday we have the PIL and my dad over for a Sunday roast. Today’s was roast pork (the crackling worked-happy dance) mashed potatoes, roast potatoes, carrots, peas, broccoli, parsnips, stuffing and Yorkshire pud’s with lashings of gravy.
I made apple crumble for desert with the choice of ice cream or custard (bone of contention in our house)
It’s the one day of the week that is just about family and sitting down together. I love sundays

Rubusfruticosus · 13/01/2019 20:24

Sunday evening I usually cook a pot of something for Sunday-Tuesday dinner. I usually do roast chicken thigh fillets and roast veg on a weeknight when we have it, or I sometimes roast chickpeas on a tray instead of the chicken.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 13/01/2019 20:25

Every Sunday November to March

Riversguidebook · 13/01/2019 20:27

Every Sunday. Only time everyone sits round the table together and eats together, and the kids get their full quota of vegetables in one go !
