To tell you all that oat milk is actually lovely?

Speaking as a non-veggie. I'd been uneasy about the amount of milk we get through for a while, but skeptical about alternatives. Tried oat milk at someone's house over Xmas, and it's amazing! Basically like creamy, comforting liquid porridge. Goes fine in coffee, makes the most amazing horlicks, and if anything is nicer than cow milk. (Long time poster, don't have shares in oat milk, promise)

Also easy to make

fromnowhere · 13/01/2019 13:39

I agree Smile

optionthree · 13/01/2019 13:40

Interesting. Does it work in tea?

SteveMcqueensJeans · 13/01/2019 13:40

We used it for years as my kids didn't tolerate cows milk once I stopped breastfeeding. It is great for cooking and makes the most amazing Yorkshire puds!

Frankenterfer · 13/01/2019 13:40

YANBU, oat milk is the shiz.

Yes, easy to make. But if buying, I recommend Oatly Barrista. I don't have shares in them!

Purplejay · 13/01/2019 13:41

I find it a great all rounder. Good in tea and coffee and on cereal orbin mash.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 13/01/2019 13:41

Yep. Waaaaaay better for the planet too (I’m no vegan!)

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 13/01/2019 13:42

Just had a quick Google - didn't even think about making it!

I love porridge, oatcakes, flapjacks and pretty much anything with oats but I can't quite decide if I like oat milk or not. When I drink a cup of it I always feel as though I'm being hit in the face with a bag of oats, it's so intense, I wish that it had a slightly milder flavour.

RNBrie · 13/01/2019 13:44

Have you tried it with cereal? Is there a particular brand you'd recommend? Do your dc like it??

thecatneuterer · 13/01/2019 13:44

Nice on cereals and crap in tea in my opinion. It doesn't seem to have that chemical reaction with the tannins that cows milk and soya milk have. It tastes like black tea with milk swirling around in it, rather than the milk becoming incorporated into the tea and so no longer tasting like black tea.

theonetowalkinthesun · 13/01/2019 13:44

Agree! A non-vegan yet a big fan! On its own, it literally tastes like porridge in a liquid form, just as you said which is nice in cereal, and drinking it on its own. So I was scared to put it in coffee at first because I assumed it would taste like a porridgey coffee- it doesn't! It somehow tastes different in coffee than it does in it own- tastes really good in coffee!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 13/01/2019 13:45

Fine in tea as well, imo.

Funnily enough, when I tried drinking cow milk again after a few days of oat milk, I was really put off and found it had quite a metallic 'animal' taste (well, I suppose it would).

Preaching to the converted here. The best I’ve had is oatly barista.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 13/01/2019 13:47

DS7 loves it too. We but Oatley semi skimmed.

Oatly oat milk is the best.
I’m not vegan but I am veggi and trying to cut down on my dairy usage. I switched to oat milk a few years ago.
I use it everywhere you would milk.
I use the Barista version for cooking as the higher fat content makes it better for cooking.

Propertywoe · 13/01/2019 13:48

I like the semi and skinny in the oatly brand, feels very luxurious.

EmmaC78 · 13/01/2019 13:48

I hardly ever have normal milk at home now. I use oat milk or soya milk.

thecatneuterer · 13/01/2019 13:49

Maybe I'll have to try it with tea again. Perhaps I judged too quickly. I like the organic, non-sweetened soya milk for tea.

moredoll · 13/01/2019 13:49

It might be okay in porridge, but it is truly ghastly in coffee.

Heyha · 13/01/2019 13:50

I think Oatly is lovely. I am a complete omnivore but hate the aftertaste of cow milk. It is like drinking a liquid flapjack though... On the other hand I think soya milk is the work of the devil and goat milk not much better!

Bowchicawowow · 13/01/2019 13:51

I have used it in soups to make them more creamy. It works really well.

iamthefox · 13/01/2019 13:52

YANBU but YABU for advertising this fact when there is already an Oatly Barista shortage!

Going back to other plant milk in tea and coffee has been like going vegan all over again 😫

I don’t know why Oatly make any other kind of oatmilk, the other varieties are rubbish and separate in hot drinks.

ItchySeveredFoot · 13/01/2019 13:53

Yes oatly barista is lovely. Have it on my cereal and in my tea.

ChesterGreySideboard · 13/01/2019 13:53

I found oat milk other than Oatly brand to be too sweet.
The only problem is that they can’t make it quick enough to keep up the supply! There was a barista shortage just before Christmas.
