To tell you all that oat milk is actually lovely?

Speaking as a non-veggie. I'd been uneasy about the amount of milk we get through for a while, but skeptical about alternatives. Tried oat milk at someone's house over Xmas, and it's amazing! Basically like creamy, comforting liquid porridge. Goes fine in coffee, makes the most amazing horlicks, and if anything is nicer than cow milk. (Long time poster, don't have shares in oat milk, promise)

Oatly Barista has been out of stock here for ages so I’ve been using Alpro Unsweetened Oat. It is lovely and definitely better than the plain Oatly.

ArcheryAnnie · 13/01/2019 16:22

It's dreadful in tea but absolutely perfect in coffee.

RoboticSealpup · 13/01/2019 16:26

Agree. I love an oatmilk Starbucks latte! Yum.

Laniakea · 13/01/2019 16:30

I think it is revolting in coffee!

E20mom · 13/01/2019 16:42

Was busy with baby and I read that as cat milk Confused

sushisuperstar · 13/01/2019 17:03

It's the best. Oatley organic is by far the nicest.

sushisuperstar · 13/01/2019 17:06

It's amazing with weetabix (hot) and shredded wheat bite size. YUM

Hopoindown31 · 13/01/2019 17:07

Awful in tea, just like all the other alternatives...

Rememory · 13/01/2019 17:09

Not keen on cows milk anymore since I've started using oat milk and I've found that putting it in before the boiling water is less bitter -runs and hides as I know that's not the proper way to make tea.

B1rdinthebush · 13/01/2019 17:18

I'm a vegan coeliac and think cashew milk is the best. I think it tastes the most like cows milk in tea. I don't mind oat milk but also finding a decent GF one just wasn't really happening...

earlybirdhasanap · 13/01/2019 17:21

We used oatly barista for my daughter when she struggled to transition from
Breast to cows milk. It's lovely. Although not the price of it! I've just looked now it was £10-14 on amazon for 6 when we bought it and now it's £20 Shock.

Teddyreddy · 13/01/2019 17:42

We are a mostly dairy and soya free household as DD is allergic to both and reacted through breastmilk so I had to give it up too. I find oat milk nice enough on cereal, but it makes tea and coffee taste too porridgey for my taste. My preferred non dairy milk for tea is cashew like a pp.

I don't like oat milk in cooking though - it's too sweet. Unsweetened hemp milk works well though - it doesn't give any extra flavour unlike for example coconut milk.

TheGoogleMum · 13/01/2019 19:18

I tried oatly recently for the first time, I am not keen on soy milk or nutty flavours. I've only braved it on cereal so far and think it tastes ok but looks weird! Haven't braved it in tea yet. I don't have the barista one

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 13/01/2019 19:37

Ooh, I bet it would be lovely in readybrek. Haven't had that in about 30yrs.

My son has cmpa, soy allergy and nut allergy so oat milk is my only option.

I absolutely love oatly barista and it Froths well too

ShadyLady53 · 13/01/2019 19:45

Must be in the minority but I really hated it :(

I found Koko to be the best tasting dairy free alternative but have Lactofree now and am very happy with it.

MissWilmottsGhost · 13/01/2019 19:52

I quite like it just as a drink. Like an oaty milkshake Smile

It is vile in porridge though. DH makes porridge just with water so doesn't seem to mind, but I make mine with milk usually and oat milk just makes it taste like DH's watery shite. Yuck, no thanks.

Have not tried it in coffee or tea, the thought does not appeal.

It's nice but not a substitute for lovely creamy cow milk. Yum.

Forgotmycoat · 13/01/2019 19:57

Well I'm just going to have to bloody buy some tomorrow won't I op? You're making me salivate. And I'll have to buy some horlicks to test your claims. I'm supposed to be on a diet. Damn you.

Huggybear16 · 13/01/2019 20:07

When I drink a cup of it I always feel as though I'm being hit in the face with a bag of oats

That made me laugh, great mental image.

I've been using the Oatly Whole stuff recently. It's much better than the old Oatly in tea and coffee, and better than the other milk alternatives. I've still to try the Barista one, my local stores never have it in stock.

Outherelivingmybestlife · 13/01/2019 20:11

I agree! It's so much nicer than cows milk.

flameycakes · 13/01/2019 20:14

I love it, unfortunately it sends my sugar levels right high, I miss porridge so much x

Must try this barista stuff.
I LOVE porridge, as do my kids, but none of us have liked and oat milk we’ve tried inc homemade. Even tried adding vanilla etc to it rather than throw it out. My 2 year old is intolerant of cows milk and soya, and id like to reduce our dairy intake anyway, so a tasty alternative would be amazing.

Smurf123 · 13/01/2019 20:55

I don't drink milk as have always been dairy intolerant but my 10 month old loves cow and gate creamy porridge however we have just been told to put him on lactose free diet and I can't get him to eat any other breakfast so do you reckon readybrek with oat milk would be creamy??
Readybrek with baby lactose free formula doesn't look or smell great so I can't blame him for not eating it!

Petitprince · 13/01/2019 21:31

Another vote for oatly and barista is the best. Is there still a shortage?
