To tell you all that oat milk is actually lovely?

Speaking as a non-veggie. I'd been uneasy about the amount of milk we get through for a while, but skeptical about alternatives. Tried oat milk at someone's house over Xmas, and it's amazing! Basically like creamy, comforting liquid porridge. Goes fine in coffee, makes the most amazing horlicks, and if anything is nicer than cow milk. (Long time poster, don't have shares in oat milk, promise)

Me in Waitrose today, making usual pointless visit to Oatly Barista shelf......😮! 😁😁! Haven’t had it there for about 2 months, we have done lots of hunting and paying over the odds. Quite made my day 🙂

Chocolateislife88 · 14/01/2019 18:17

Totally agree! I stopped drinking milk a couple of years ago and now much prefer oat milk

GhostsToMonsoon · 14/01/2019 18:21

I tried it in coffee and thought it was disgusting. Cashew milk is OK in tea and coffee. I like Oatly crème fraiche. Oat milk on cereal is OK.

ChesterGreySideboard · 14/01/2019 18:24

I found a secret supply of barista and ordered just before Christmas.

I love Oatly Barista! I foam mine and make lattes and capucinnos, too. But it's also great in tea, porridge, on cereal, for baking, etc. Much nicer than cows milk.

Forgotmycoat · 15/01/2019 15:38

Did someone say there was an oatly shortage? Not in my waitrose!!

Forgotmycoat · 15/01/2019 15:40

Earlier today....

I've told dd to stop drinking it. For the same amount of calories and sugar as normal semi skimmed milk it has far less protein.

arranbubonicplague · 15/01/2019 15:45

You like it so it's fine. For me, I find it slimy (but then I don't drink dairy or other milks either).

And oh yeah...

oat milk is the only one i havent had

i drink almond now but i had coconut which is watery, hemp which is okay, soya is nice but makes you fat, rice is watery

icannotremember · 15/01/2019 15:50

I've told dd to stop drinking it. For the same amount of calories and sugar as normal semi skimmed milk it has far less protein

But what if she prefers it to cow's milk (which I'm assuming is what you mean by 'normal' milk)?

Bellasorellaa · 15/01/2019 15:52

had a look forget that, the calories are more than almond which is the lowest, i'm not trying to get fat.

AlexanderHamilton · 15/01/2019 15:57

She doesn't prefer it, she just thought it was healthier. As a trainee professional dancer she has to look after herself and was taking protein supplements which were bulking her up.

pandarific · 15/01/2019 16:02

Can someone link to an idiot-proof method of making it please? I'm intrigued but I tend to get things like this wrong...

Endofrelationship · 15/01/2019 16:03

It is very nice, but nutritionally pretty void and only available in non-recyclable packaging. Which is rubbish.

Tea16 · 15/01/2019 16:09

Oh my. I tried it for the first time yesterday and I'm converted. I love it.

OnlineAlienator · 15/01/2019 16:14

I like it but cant really have it, only as a treat, because it makes my blood sugar spike then crash which prompts me to overeat. It's basically in the same category as coke for moi.

OnlineAlienator · 15/01/2019 16:20

Agree with you pigsdofly - i dont buy oatly due to their marketing. I love cows and if everyone drank oat milk exclusively in the place of theirs they would cease to exist. Thered also be terrible environmental consequences to switching entirely to crop production without the mitigating effects of animals in the system.

I drink oat milk because its a nice treat, i like the taste.

Rude Health are a lot more balanced and last time i looked werent campaigning for an end to cows.

AlexanderHamilton · 15/01/2019 16:29

I think that was happening to Dd online. She was having it on porridge & lattes and putting on weight but not feeling full.

Tolleshunt · 15/01/2019 22:06

A big reason I don't drink plant milks is because they are useless for stabilising blood sugar, whereas dairy is the best thing for me in terms of smoothing out the highs and lows.

Perfectly1mperfect · 15/01/2019 22:15

I bought some today after reading this thread and its so nice. I'm really pleased as I've been wanting to not drinking cows milk for a while.

Didsomeonesaybunny · 15/01/2019 22:17

I love it. Big fan here!

MrsTommyBanks · 15/01/2019 22:23

I got some today on the back of this thread. I love it. So pleased to find an alternative to dairy and soya. Thanks OP.

Perfectly1mperfect · 15/01/2019 22:24

I hope there's not a shortage now with all the increased sales from this thread. 😂
