Vogue Williams pumping and dumping

honorariam · 12/01/2019 19:07

I thought this was an outdated practise yet Vogue insisted on her new reality tv show that she had to pump and dump her milk as she'd been out having a few drinks.

AIBU to think that it's irresponsible for Channel 4 to show this sort of nonsense?

Not everything is a massive deal.

elQuintoConyo · 12/01/2019 19:10

Who? Did what now? When? And told whom?

(I have a feeling I'm too old to have opened this thread!).

PooleySpooley · 12/01/2019 19:10

I drank when I breastfed - Meh.

Chickychoccyegg · 12/01/2019 19:11

so what? why does it matter?

SparklyLeprechaun · 12/01/2019 19:11

Oh no, Vogue Williams herself said this? Shock
Who tf is Vogue Williams?

sproutlove · 12/01/2019 19:12

Who does it harm?

gimmeadoughnut123 · 12/01/2019 19:13

I personally don't see anything wrong with this. She likely had enough milk stored to allow her to pump and dump. Mum's should feel relaxed enough to have a few drinks when bf, if they are going to be responsible about it and not pass it on to the baby. If her baby is happy, healthy and fed, what's the issue? Would people feel the same way about formula feeding mum's that don't use any of their milk (when/if producing)?

Huffleypuff · 12/01/2019 19:13

I imagine she just wanted everyone to know she’s breastfeeding, she’s probably trying to project herself as some born again earth mother.

dementedpixie · 12/01/2019 19:14

I think it's because its pointless to pump and dump due to drinking as the alcohol leaves the milk at the same rate it leaves the blood.

TulipsInbloom1 · 12/01/2019 19:14

Sorry OP I don't know which part of it makes you cross? That she is dumping the milk but doesn't need to as the alcohol doesn't get into the milk, or that she is drinking while bf-ing?

Tv shows really cannot have an expert on everything available for this sort of show. Fair enough if it was a bf-ing show. But it isn't.

Are you going to critique anything anyone ever does on tv that isn't 100% accurate?

dementedpixie · 12/01/2019 19:15

And you can have a few drinks and still bf as long as you aren't drunk.

Zebrasinpyjamas · 12/01/2019 19:15

It is a bit annoying to perpetuate myths, especially those that add more pressure on to new mothers.

I think it's hard to be 100% accurate on these reality programmes though without literally scripting every word the people say (they may actually do this for all I know).

HollyGoLoudly1 · 12/01/2019 19:23

I pump and dump when I'm drinking. DS is babysat while I'm out, takes formula, and I need to prevent engorgement. Pumping and dumping due to alcohol levels in breastmilk may be unnecessary but it's understandable some people still choose to do it. I wouldn't describe it as irresponsible or nonsense.

Guarantee if she didn't pump and dump she would have other posts about how awful she was for feeding her baby alcoholic breastmilk Hmm

EdWinchester · 12/01/2019 19:25

I did this if I had a drink.

Strokethefurrywall · 12/01/2019 19:26

I pumped and dumped when I was on a hen weekend when DS1 was 4 months, because if I didn't my baps were about to explode...

Magenta46 · 12/01/2019 19:30

Ah, bloody cheap telly, glad I don't watch it anymore.

MrsJayy · 12/01/2019 19:30

Surely it is her milk to do what she likes with and if she has been advised to do this by somebody who cares btw you are watching a reality programme with him off chelsea and bryan mcfaddens ex wife it is hardly highbrow and nobody should be taking it that seriously.

Tinyteatime · 12/01/2019 19:30

I’ve no idea who she is and yes It’s a pointless thing to do but people probably aren’t watching some stupid celebrity reality tv show to pick up breastfeeding tips. More fool her for wasting her time pumping.

RJnomore1 · 12/01/2019 19:31

I thought this was about something completely different Blush

Xmastummyhasgonebig · 12/01/2019 19:31

It annoyed me too, as it's unnecessary!

mamatia · 12/01/2019 19:32

I think she was pumping and dumping because she was out drinking and needed to pump so she wasn't uncomfortable and didn't want to carry milk about all night that would have to be dumped anyway as she couldn't put it in a fridge?

AlwaysWantedToBeATenenbaum · 12/01/2019 19:33
