To ask how anybody with fine, thin hair manages to create a nice hair do.

Just that really.....I have fine shoulder length hair, in good condition with long layers. Occasionally I can get it to look ok, as in nice and full but it’s a bit hit and miss.

I have tried.....different shampoo and conditioner, washing every day, not washing every day, using heated Velcro rollers, different volumising sprays, different mousses, dry shampoo.

Sorry, I know this is shallow but any advice appreciated.

Anyone else had a 'body wave/perm' to add volume? Is it too risky with fine hair? I've not coloured my hair for about 2 years and if this added volume without me faffing, I'd love that

Clionba · 12/01/2019 07:10

Yes, I did buckeejit. It looked fantastic for a while, I had it done for a few years. Unfortunately it did badly damage the hair and roots, took a while to recover.

buckeejit · 12/01/2019 13:13

Doh! Thanks @Clionba - will have to try the pills then for now 😁

Alleycat1 · 12/01/2019 14:48

Olderthan I have tried short hair before and I looked like a man! I used to have a body wave to add movement and volume but anything like that now just makes my hair look like candyfloss. My scalp is starting to peek through at the back now too - not a good look. I'm afraid there is no satisfactory answer and I can quite see why old women always used to wear bonnets or mob caps ! Perhaps we could start a new trend?

Clionba · 12/01/2019 15:41

Ha ha!! @Alleycat1 - I totally think we should start a new trend! My mum and her friends always wore headscarves when they went out (like the Queen does!)! I think a mob cap, bonnet or scarf would solve our problems!!

Alleycat1 · 12/01/2019 15:46

Clionba, you first! Grin

OlderThanAverageforMN · 12/01/2019 16:03

I already have to wear a hat in the summer as my scalp burns Sad
I look terrible in hats SadSad

Alleycat1 · 12/01/2019 16:17

So, Clionba and Olderthan there's only one thing for the 3 of us....Brown paper bags all round!

Clionba · 12/01/2019 16:21

Ha ha!! I often look at bald/balding men displaying their scalps with pride!

I second (or third) extensions.

I have Zen Tape ins. Cost about £250 for the hair. Which is amazing quality and a little bit longer than mine. When they are in its bra strap length.

I just wash them, leave them to dry when the top (my own hair) is damp I blow dry that with a round brush (going to try the Revlon though) and when the rest is dry I straighten or curl.

As pp says, my hair is actually in better condition than before. I wash it less. I have them taken put and put closer to the root every 6 weeks, which works well because I have it coloured at the same time.

Hair lasts about a year. They tie back really well as well.

@Rousette you have changed my life with the ‘Hard to get paste’ and conditioner before washing tip. I have fine lank hair which looks greasy and thin within 5 seconds of washing. But not anymore!! Today I washed my hair & used the paste as described first thing, played netball, wore a horse riding hat for an hour, then a cycle helmet for two hours and I still have bouncy full hair!! Thank you so much Smile

CSIblonde · 20/01/2019 22:51

Hi lights. My hair looks full and normal with them. Without them its a lank, thin embarrassment. It also needs washing daily if not hilighted which makes it all fly away.

Roussette · 22/01/2019 11:30

@Tronkmanton that's great! It doesn't work for everyone, our hair is all different but it works for me! Smile
