Just that really.....I have fine shoulder length hair, in good condition with long layers. Occasionally I can get it to look ok, as in nice and full but it’s a bit hit and miss.

I have tried.....different shampoo and conditioner, washing every day, not washing every day, using heated Velcro rollers, different volumising sprays, different mousses, dry shampoo.

Sorry, I know this is shallow but any advice appreciated.

SatsumaFan I have weft extensions. They're very fine and the weft is very thin, so I don't get that tell take bump under my own hair and the fineness of the extension hair blends really well with my own. They look very natural and anyone I tell is really surprised I've got extensions in.

They cost me £100 for the hair itself, which lasts around 9-12 months depending on how often I wash it/how well I look after the extensions. And every top of that every 6-8 weeks I have them refitted (i.e. they're taken out and moved back up to my roots) which costs £40 including any trimming of my hair that might be needed.

I also spend a lot more than I used to on really good shampoo and conditioner and oil to keep it all in good condition. It's worth it (to me) as I always hated my hair and finally I feel nice and swishy in my middle age Grin

Picked up my Revlon one step, came straight home, washed hair and tried it!! I can report back that it's fab. Really easy, much less hair pulled out than with babylis big hair, it dried my hair super fast, hair is all swishy and smooth and shiny. It's fab. With a bit more practice, I'm sure I'll be able to get more volume and even a bit of a wave going as well.

StoatofDisarray · 08/01/2019 17:13

Aww, thanks :)

I should have added that I colour it too (semi-permanent colour, usually). Like PPs have said, it helps roughen up the hair shaft and make it look thicker.

AnotherBeautifulDayToBeRogelio · 08/01/2019 17:13

Oh an no, not high maintenance at all. I spend a lot less time on my hair now than I used to. So instead of washing every day, I wash every five days or so. On wash day, I pop in some soft rollers and leave it to dry naturally. The next day I spend 5 mins curling it. The next 3 days are even easier as it gets kind of 'thicker' a couple of days in, so just a couple of mins a day giving it a quick comb and maybe a quick curl of the ends with a curling wand.

The only other things I have to do differently are conditioning the ends only as you can't get conditioner on the weft bit; being a bit more careful combing through my hair, and I tie it in a loose pony for sleeping in, just to prevent damage/tangles overnight.

They really are very easy to manage. I wouldn't go back to just my own hair now.

I have thin, fine hair and have been watching this thread with interest, If anyone is interested in the Living Proof stuff, I’ve just bought travel versions of the Living Proof Full Cream, mousse and shampoo for £10 each from their website ( not M&S which was mentioned earlier) and if you spend £30 or more you get 8 free samples of some of their other stuff plus if you sign up to their emails you get 15% off, so I got it all for under £25!

*I am not employed by or related to anyone employed by Living Proof!

oh dear I kinda sport the Anthea ‘do’ Hmm Grin

BumbleBeee69 · 08/01/2019 17:36

Truckingonandon that’s great , Im going to try buying one

OlderThanAverageforMN · 08/01/2019 17:57

I have the worst of the worst. Fine, super blond, thin hair, sparse, see-through hair, which you can see my scalp through. It's getting worse as I am getting older too :-(

I do get it highlighted, and have now moved from a blunt bob to a pixie cut. It can look nice if I wash daily, and add styling wax so that the hair kind of stands on end !! Sounds odd, but works. I am trying to pluck up the courage to go a steely grey rather than my natural colourless blonde. I am 52, and my my mum would be appalled if I went grey, even though it is fashionable, she is 90 and still dyes hers dark brown Hmm.

Propertywoe · 08/01/2019 18:03

I have used the babyliss big hair for so long that I felt unfaithful switching to Revlon but it is so much easier getting the hot air directly into the roots. It grips the hair well and because there is no spin I can keep the brush under the roots for longer.

therewillbetime · 08/01/2019 19:23

Newsflash,
Having followed Rousettes tip of conditioner on dry hair first then shampoo, a colleague I have worked with for ten years said ‘your hair looks nice, a it looks a bit shorter and really nice’ to me today. Assuming the shorter bit comes from it being a bit more looks dated, I was really pleased!

And I had just been out in a gale force wind!,

I not only have thin fine hair that is weirdly fluffy and flyaway, I wear a motorcycle helmet daily (no other way of getting to work!) which flattens it to nothing and makes it static. I absolutely hate my hair! It won't grow last shoulder length either, just splits and gets ratty. Going to try the lush roots stuff I think

flintfoxy · 08/01/2019 20:17

Can anyone recommend a decent mid price mousse?

Roussette · 08/01/2019 20:18

Good to hear therewillbetime Smile

ChristmasFluff · 08/01/2019 20:48

I have really fine layered hair, just below my shoulders, and can create a Patricia Morrison-type goth hairdo with Tresemme Freezehold hairspray and backcombing, along with hair extensions that roughly follow my hairline, so they lie under my other layers and so you don't see the 'bumps'.

Also be careful to concentrate product on your roots, not the ends, as it weights the hair down.

On a daily basis I tend to go for a ponytail, or at least put up the front half of my hair.

I may be imagining it, but it's been a thicker since I started using one of those showerheads with the balls in them - ionic showerhead?

EmeraldShamrock · 09/01/2019 08:16

Some great ideas. Mine as always been thin but it is getting thinner. Every day loads of my fine hair is left on the brush Shock

TyrionLannistersShadow · 09/01/2019 08:27

I've recently bought the Babyliss big hair to give my roots a bit of much needed volume and I find it works fine initially but within a short period of time the volume all drops out and my hair is left flat again. I've tried spraying it with hair spray but no joy. What do other people use to keep the volume in ?

I do exactly that, glad something's working Francis!

Like Another I have a weave in, which is sewn in on clips rather than plaited. I absolutely love it, have had one in for a couple of years now and just have the extension moved back up the root every 6-7 weeks or so. The hair I have in now has lasted me since last February and is amazing quality - think it cost me about £350 in total for the hair and fitting, and then £60 for a refit.

My own hair has also got thicker (and much longer!) as I tend to just leave it alone now - I wash it every 5-7 days so it rarely gets any heat damage, and I wear my hair in a bun most of the time for ease (you can't see the weft when it's up, unlike glue or silicone extensions). I did consider taking it out just before Christmas and going au natural, but I couldn't bear the thought of going back to my own thin wispy hair Sad

WeeMadArthur · 09/01/2019 18:25

@OlderThanAverageForMn go for it! What’s the worst that can happen really? It won’t take to grow out if you don’t like it. My DM is the same, her dark brown dye job ages her but she can’t see it, I will be embracing my grey!

Donkeyote123 · 09/01/2019 18:29

I had a bob for years then I discovered extensions YAY!!!!

Alleycat1 · 09/01/2019 18:44

Mine has always been thin, fine and flyaway. My sister, who is a hairdresser, tells everyone that I have "Two hairs and a nit." Charming! Until recently a combination of hair dye and copious amounts of mega hold hairspray has sort of helped but now my hair is thinning badly with age and looks grim. Also short hair just does not suit me but it is not possible to wear it below earlobe length. I am seriously considering a wig......

reasonsforwaiting · 09/01/2019 19:40

Another recommendation for Aveda Invati shampoo and conditioner. It's not cheap, but lasts for ages, and in many years I've never found anything as effective for thickening my very fine hair.

therewillbetime · 09/01/2019 22:07

Two hairs and a nit!

My Babybliss has arrived today , going to use properly tomorrow. Had a go quickly tonight and I got a bit tangled!

alleycat1 I feel your pain.

But, I would say, that I thought that short hair wouldn't suit me either, until I went for it. I went from shoulder length to bob, to pixie, and it makes me look so much younger. I have so many compliments, and a lot of "my husband won't let me" or "I wish I had the confidence". Go for it. As a pp has said to me, go for the grey..... what's the worst that can happen ??
