Just that really.....I have fine shoulder length hair, in good condition with long layers. Occasionally I can get it to look ok, as in nice and full but it’s a bit hit and miss.

I have tried.....different shampoo and conditioner, washing every day, not washing every day, using heated Velcro rollers, different volumising sprays, different mousses, dry shampoo.

Sorry, I know this is shallow but any advice appreciated.

Following with interest. My hair always looks the same. It’s getting thinner as I get older as well.

Beachmummy23 · 06/01/2019 20:27

Following same problem

lidoshuffle · 06/01/2019 20:29

I've given up doing anything but having mine in a bob, in various forms over the years. My hair won't even hold a side part, but if cut well will fall into place.

DaffoDeffo · 06/01/2019 20:30

Best stuff is Living Proof Thickening Cream but I don't use it every day, just when I want to look particularly good!

Otherwise I just put up with ridiculously thin hair that won't do anything and when the wind blows looks like Wiesel Gummidge

DaffoDeffo · 06/01/2019 20:30

Wiesel = Worzel!

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 06/01/2019 20:32

Mine’s a bit messed up from chemo at the moment but before that sounds a lot like yours. I cut out silicon and SLS, and instead of brushing it I occasionally combed it through in the shower. So kind of Curly Girl but with straight hair. Anyway after a week or so it got a bit of a wave and looked a lot thicker, so I was pleased. Probably did that for about a year.

Also did salt spray, thickening spray etc but hard to know how much that helped.

One product I loved was Lush Roots. Have you tried that?

HollaHolla · 06/01/2019 20:33

My mum has very poor hair - has done so all her life. She now only ever has a short bob, and I’ve bought her a number of products and contraptions over the years, to see if they make any difference, as she gets very upset and self-conscious about it.
So, what is working for her now is:

  • Babyliss Big Hair heated spinny brush.
  • Roots shampoo, conditioner & leave in spray.
  • regular highlights, as this thickens/coursens the hair.
Her hair is in the best shape it’s been in for years - looks less fluffy and flat (at the same time....)
Maelstrop · 06/01/2019 20:34

Foam piece to give impression of fullness.
Hairpiece for similar.

Firstworddinosaur · 06/01/2019 20:35

I think it's all in the cut.

WhatWouldPennyDo · 06/01/2019 20:36

Babyliss spinning brush, heat protection spray and a decent hair cut mean mine looks fine now. I back-comb when putting it up to add some volume. It highlights my tiny head otherwise Grin

WhiteWashGails · 06/01/2019 20:36

I had this problem. I have a crop like this, and blonde so thE bleach makes my hair expand and coarser

Pixie cut! I couldn't do anything with mine for years but once I chopped it all off I could texturise it, it holds a style and actually looks really thick on top.

User758172 · 06/01/2019 20:48

Babyliss Big Hair, very strong mousse and lots of backcombing! - I have a little brush I use for that and it’s great. I don’t have the time to do it every day so usually scrape it into a ponytail, but can make it very voluminous that way.

Need time to do it though! A few years ago I had a selection of clip-in sections too, all cut and highlighted so they blended into my hair perfectly. They made my hair look so thick and beautiful, but again, I’m time-poor now.

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 06/01/2019 20:52

Very fine, very thin (after a misadventure with extensions that ripped most of it our) hair.

Clip in extensions for volume and length, styling the strongest bits of my hair to cover the clips. Also, a good hair piece.

Batiste dry shampoo for extra volume (think it’s called that it’s in a good can).
Literal game changer. My hair looks so much thicker and can be styled once I use that!

donajimena · 06/01/2019 20:59

Where is the best place for clip in extensions?

BumbleBeee69 · 06/01/2019 21:02

following with interest too ladies :)

kalefire · 06/01/2019 21:04

After years of having Blah Hair that never held a style I got the chop and now rock a chin length blunt bob that has (IMO) given me an actual STYLE it's amazing

YeOldeNameChange · 06/01/2019 21:04

Just ordered Living Proof-feeling excited. My hair has always been so fine and can’t do anything with it.

therewillbetime · 06/01/2019 21:09

Thank you all so much ladies.

Sorry to hear so many of you are also suffering with fine hair!

Batiste sometimes works me for but sometimes my hair still just hangs.
Living Proof looks good as well as the Roots stuff. I am going to order some Living Proof cream to start with I think.

Following for tips!

My hair seems to only look its best when freshly washed (even then can be hit and miss). Once I’ve slept on it, that’s it. It becomes all mishapen and stupid. So it goes up in a bun/ponytail. Yet everyone I know with thick hair seem to get better hair days the longer they go without washing it! Angry

Chrissmasjammies · 06/01/2019 21:12

I have the same problem I think it's related to a touch of androgenetic alopecia maybe PCOS related. Anyway what I find works is highlights as well! And regular trims I do find a chin length bob with long layers is best. And when drying add some styling product (volumising mousse) and blow dry vigorously upside down helps a good bit.

OneStepMoreFun · 06/01/2019 21:15

Have mor elayers cut in. If the layers are too long they get lank. I always have to plead with my hairdresser on this. They think my hair will bounce up like Jilly Cooper's if they cut the layers that short, but it won't.

Then I wash it with either Head & Shoulders apple 2-in-1 or L'Oreal Elvive for thinning hair (separate shampoo and condition) and rinse it in a bath that has quite a lot of Epsom salts in it. The salts seem to thicken the hair without making it too dry.

Towel it and then style it while damp but leave to dry naturally as blow dries can go wrong and leave it impossible to restyle fr a few days.
