Just that really.....I have fine shoulder length hair, in good condition with long layers. Occasionally I can get it to look ok, as in nice and full but it’s a bit hit and miss.

I have tried.....different shampoo and conditioner, washing every day, not washing every day, using heated Velcro rollers, different volumising sprays, different mousses, dry shampoo.

Sorry, I know this is shallow but any advice appreciated.

I use roots by lush. It’s amazing.
Only wash every other day and don’t use conditioner.
I don’t brush it although back comb when I’m going out.

I spent years with a bob and got so bored!

I want to try babyliss big hair!

KarmaStar · 06/01/2019 22:02

Dry shampoo, brilliant for really making hair instantly thick my friend who has extremely think hair used it daily

Macarena1990 · 06/01/2019 22:09

I disagree about layers. My fine hair looks thicker and styles better when its in a blunt one length cut. I use a big Hair too which I highly recommend.

I also find that my hair has much more volume when wash my hair over the bath - must be gravity as it is really flat after washing it in the shower.

Propertywoe · 06/01/2019 22:09

I had the big hair brush/dryer and just replaced with the 2:1 Revlon Pro Hair Dryer and Volumizer and both have been great.

Bowchicawowow · 06/01/2019 22:12

I swear by a Babyliss Big Hair brush.

Allthewaves · 06/01/2019 22:12

Friend has an amazing short cut - pixie cut but layered and very feminine and uses this styling power stuff.

HollaHolla · 06/01/2019 22:14

I’ve been showing this thread to my mum. I know I’ve already said what she uses, but she’s still looking for tips.
Her issue is that her hair is far too fine to have layers. There’s just not enough hair to even backcomb, clip anything into, or tie back, etc - I’ve tried for her! You can see her scalp and it won’t hold a shape once she’s slept on it. It just goes flat with mad sticky out bits. She gets so upset, and I keep looking for things to help her.
I’ll continue following, and if there’s anyone else in this boat, and have found tips or products, she’d be hugely grateful.
Thanks!

trinitybleu · 06/01/2019 22:14

@OneStepMoreFun me too.... My shortest layer needs to be about 3.5/4 inches long max for there to be any lift at all. Hairdressers don't believe me until I make them do it!

It's also ridiculously straight. My hairdresser did curls with ghd's, guaranteed to last for days, she said. Ha, I said. Sent her a pic when I got home (25 mins)... All gone. She still talks about it now, 4 years later.

MoveOnTheCards · 06/01/2019 22:15

Aveda Invati shampoo, conditioner and styling products, a blunt cut and highlights to swell the hair shaft.

Dry shampoo to boost if going out on the evening and no time to wash & blow dry.

manicinsomniac · 06/01/2019 22:16

I wear clip in extensions every day.

Aeroflotgirl · 06/01/2019 22:19

I have found my people. My hair is fine and thin, just hangs. If I grow it, takes ages to grow and just looks thin and floppy, not the luscious mane that a lot of ladies have now. I tend to have mine in a graduated Bob, or a short funky style tgat I can mess up, for the summer. Looks nice when I first wash and dry it, then goes downhill from there.

Betty777 · 06/01/2019 22:20

Another vote for Bayliss Big Hair. Even if you have almost no time you can just use it on the front section and the crown and it really helps.

The only essentials for me are hair powder underneath at the crown to add bulk - just a tiny amount
Dry hair texturising spray
Good quality dry shampoo makes a difference - Batiste isn't great, Tresemme is cheap but better
Very little conditioner, and keep it well away from the roots
Well placed highlights if you can afford it

OrcinusOrca · 06/01/2019 22:20

No layers here! Square cut makes it look much thicker on me. I have a long bob which I curl for volume, still squarely cut though.

JohnCRaven · 06/01/2019 22:21

Label M Honey and Oat conditioner is the best one I've found. Shampoo is OK too but it's the conditioner that makes the difference.

DorisDances · 06/01/2019 22:25

I have the same issue - Living Proof range from M & S are great for days when you really want your hair to have some body

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 06/01/2019 22:27

@HollaHolla I have an (I think it’s called) angel hair band. It’s a single wire with a single or double strip of hair on it. You put it in your head like an Alice band and style your own hair over it.

Biggest problem I’ve found is matching blonde hair. If you order off the internet it’s hit and miss. Look up salon suppliers.

TechnicalSergeantGarp · 06/01/2019 22:29

Shampoo only, dry shampoo, volume powder. Highlights and blunt cut every six to eight weeks.

Where do people get hair pieces or clip ins?

CheekyNandosForMe · 06/01/2019 22:30

Low plaits, one behind each ear ❤❤❤❤❤

HollaHolla · 06/01/2019 22:37

Thanks @BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil. 👍🏻
I’ll check that Angel hair band out for mum. Not sure she has enough hair to style over it, but it could be a go-er.

Prosecco94 · 06/01/2019 22:40

Clip in extensions from foxy locks are good! However, I agree with the poster who said plaits. Put your hair in two plaits before you go to bed and when you take them out the next morning, you will have a lot thicker hair! V cheap and easy (and quick as you’re sleeping whilst it’s ‘styling’)

ElderMcKinley · 06/01/2019 22:43

Naturally I have fine, straight hair. About two years ago I had a "body wave" perm to give it a bit of curl - best thing I ever did! Just needs a bit of moouse after washing and it's lovely and wavy all day long, and I only need to have it redone about every nine months or so.

PurpleNailVarnish · 06/01/2019 22:46

I'm a long, fine hair person too.
In the past I've had shorter styles but found they needed more attention every day than keeping it long.

My own hair takes ages to dry.

For some lift I use this L'Oréal Tecni Art dry my hair upside down for volume, then use a Big Hair for styling when it's still damp. The old style Big Hair, the new one pulls my hair.

For lots of volume I use this Nanogen root boost.

I've never found a shampoo and conditioner that adds volume and I've tried most things! some thickening products just leave my hair sticky.

RoboticSealpup · 06/01/2019 22:46

Great tips here! I don't know if anyone has any thoughts on this: I'm naturally quite a light blonde. I want get highlights and lowlights for thickness and a bit of 'depth', but hairdressers tend to refuse to use permanent colour for lowlights. The semi-permanent lowlights therefore wash out after a couple of washes, leaving me with a brassy light blonde colour that doesn't look nice on me at all.

CrookedMe · 06/01/2019 22:47

I got rid of my layers, it looks much thicker. Really good highlights to give it a bit of a kick.

Thewifipasswordis · 06/01/2019 22:49

Bleach and a short hair cut 👌
