Just that really.....I have fine shoulder length hair, in good condition with long layers. Occasionally I can get it to look ok, as in nice and full but it’s a bit hit and miss.

I have tried.....different shampoo and conditioner, washing every day, not washing every day, using heated Velcro rollers, different volumising sprays, different mousses, dry shampoo.

Sorry, I know this is shallow but any advice appreciated.

I have the same problem I've been told about a perm

Haven't tried it yet but I'm soon to!

Wavingwhiledrowning · 07/01/2019 03:44

@Drogosnextwife it's the texture creme (g.co/kgs/ek4Vbf). Took me a while to master it but it all comes down to scrunch drying with a hair dryer or using a diffuser.

ihadasleepintoday · 07/01/2019 04:53

I purchased a Dyson airwrap recently. Works much better on my hair than the Big Hair. My hair won't grip properly in the Big Hair, it's too soft. I get loads of volume with the Dyson. It's the best thing I've ever had for my baby fine, soft hair bloody should be for the price.

I also agree that layers make hair look thinner. My hair is better cut blunt and I kind of do a crooked hair part, with the front side swept. I give it lots of volume at the roots, and I carry a little comb to detangle my ends through the day.

SatsumaFan · 07/01/2019 09:34

Loving this thread and tips - thanks everyone! I too have fine, thin, poker straight lank hair and I hate it!

I use Aussie Miracle Dry Shampoo "big time root lift" stuff which is great for pumping up roots. Only wash hair every other day. Not thought of using it straight after washing tho so may try that.

Anyone got any tips for tying hair up nicely? I scrape mine into a ponytail every other day, when not washing, and it looks so straggly and you can almost see my scalp Sad

Butteredghost · 07/01/2019 09:38

Don't think so! I've got really thin limp hair. I once got my hair done for an event by a hair and make up artist, thinking at least one time I would have nice looking hair. She worked for ages then said "Did you bring any hats?" I gave up after that.

Clionba · 07/01/2019 09:50

Me too. Some years ago I was advised by a hairdresser to have a "body perm". It really boosted the volume and looked great for a time, but the perming solution damaged the roots. My advice is to be cautious with perms. I've used Boots styling mousse after washing, seems to give root lift.
I'd love to know Kate Middleton's secret. Her hair went from thin to lush!

buckeejit · 07/01/2019 11:08

I've stopped getting my thin lank hair highlighted a couple of years ago in order to try a body perm. Haven't had it done yet but also looking for help! Amazingly I have no grey hair now that my natural colour is through.

I've heard dry shampoos can be more damaging but not sure how true this is. I bought lush no drought dry shampoo which is powder but it's quite difficult to use without getting powder everywhere. Also it's better to use at night before your hair gets greasy - I always forget!

Are the clip in bits easy to use? May go to Sally's or order some to try out. I spend no time styling apart from big hair my fringe. Generally products make it sticky but bumble & bumble salt spray is ok

RoboticSealpup · 07/01/2019 11:48

I'd love to know Kate Middleton's secret.

I'm sure she has some kind of extensions. There's no way her hair could look like that otherwise.

Roussette · 07/01/2019 12:22

I'm over 60 and have very fine hair, but lots of it. My hair is shortish with layers.

Firstly, I use lots of products, without products I look like I have no hair. The one that I can't do without is this ... if they stopped making it I would seriously go and live on my own somewhere where no one knows me! You need a bit not as big as a pea in the palm of your hand, rub hands together to warm it up and just rub it through your whole head once it's washed and dried. My hair doubles in size!

Everyone says to me... it's alright for you, you've got thick hair. Errrmmmm no I really really haven't, it's just that after all these years of trying to make myself look like I have thicker hair than I really have, I have sussed out what works for me.

Other top tip....
If you have fine hair, put your conditioner on before you wash it. Conditioner on, rinse it out, shampoo, rinse. Conditioner weighs the hair down and makes it too soft and silky. Well, it does on my hair anyway and I have conditioned before washing for years now

Someone said upthread their hair was better with the soft water in Cornwall, god mine isn't. It's awful! Thin, fine and floppy, won't hold a style!

To ask how anybody with fine, thin hair manages to create a nice hair do.
Roussette · 07/01/2019 12:25

p.s. meant to say, put the conditioner on, on dry hair. Just rub it through your hair, then shower off and wash

CrookedMe · 07/01/2019 12:49

@Roussette is that the texturising paste?

Roussette · 07/01/2019 13:10

Yes, it's a texturising paste. Works for me!

Clionba · 07/01/2019 13:26

Texturising paste, made by who?

Roussette · 07/01/2019 13:28

Oh, so sorry, didn't realise the picture didn't show that!

It's TIGI Bed Head. Available on Amazon

Drogosnextwife · 07/01/2019 13:37

Is that for short hair?

SatsumaFan · 07/01/2019 13:41

@Roussette thanks for the tip! Have just ordered some on Amazon Prime as it's on offer for £8.60. Bloody one-click is going to financially ruin me! Grin I too have tried using conditioner before shampoo and agree it helps.

So do I dry my hair completely before using the paste? Or after hair drying to 80% and before Babylis Big Hair?

Theknacktoflying · 07/01/2019 13:53

Any luck with Biotin?

I have stopped using conditioner and just use Roots from Lush and the seanik soap bar .... but my hair just lacks shine and body ..

tierraJ · 07/01/2019 13:59

.

Roussette · 07/01/2019 14:05

Personally SatsumaFan I blowdry my hair until it's completely dry before using. Then I do a tiny bit more drying with a styling brush after I've used it, but only for a minute if that. But everyone's hair is different of course!

SatsumaFan · 07/01/2019 15:52

Fab. It arrives tomorrow so will give it a little try Smile

therewillbetime · 07/01/2019 16:56

Rousette - so you put conditioner on dry hair and then wash off?

That is interesting - I have heard of conditioning first but not on dry hair.

Also interested the Dyson (which I know are v. expensive!) Is it really that good?

Hairpieces. Clip in ponies, 3/4 length pieces, scrunchie hairpieces. I also relax mine with the weakest strength Afro relaxer for less than the minimum recommended time which makes it easier to just wash and wear without styling.

Mousewithascarf · 07/01/2019 17:29

Following with interest. I have baby fine, thin hair. I’d like to try the Babyliss big hair but am worried I’d get it tangled and lose more. My hair is just past jaw length graduated bob (which gives me the best chance of looking like there’s a bit of volume going on). If you’re a very ham-fisted is the BBH hard to get used to and is the regular sized one going to be way too big a diameter for my shortish hair do you think?

Kemer2018 · 07/01/2019 17:36

I've stopped using conditioner. I wash using tea tree shampoo then a couple of squirts of tresemme heat spray.
It's a little better......but now tangles at the ends 🙄
Also the roots look greasy and lanker so i have to wash often.

flintfoxy · 07/01/2019 17:58

Following!
