To think vodka shots at home are unacceptable?

Me and my friends think so! DH thinks it's fine... both DDs have bought shot glasses and 40% vodka!!! Planning on having shots tonight, isn't that something you really don't do at home?

I hope they aren't too hungover today. I've done shots with a friend but wouldn't do it now as vodka tastes like hairspray.

JaceLancs · 25/12/2018 07:29

DD DS and I started on cocktails around 4pm on Xmas eve moved on to Prosecco with dinner
DD and I carried on with gin and ended up on vodka by midnight
We played lots of board games and had a fabulous time
At 25 and 27 I’m pleased that they still enjoy spending time with me
No one got more than slightly merry and we are all up at 8.30 for Xmas day presents etc

Rubberduckies · 25/12/2018 08:14

We were at the PILS last night. Dh, Fil and Bil were drinking various shots and cocktails together in the kitchen for most of the evening. I think it's nice for adults to have a good time with their siblings and parents!! I understand it's probably a change for you, adapting to an adult Christmas, but really it's fun!!

I was incredibly hungover for an extended family Christmas lunch one year. There was much laughter and many jokes about it. If I remember rightly I hid in a corner peeling potatoes and drinking Lucozade....

Shitmewithyourrhythmstick · 25/12/2018 10:00

You seem much more anxious and stressed about this than is normal or reasonable OP. Something to think about and work on once we're through Christmas. If you're going to be feeling like this every time one of your young adult daughters has a few drinks, it's going to be a long and rough few years for you. I mean this kindly.

MrsAJ27 · 25/12/2018 10:11

Chill Out...

CountessOfNowhere · 25/12/2018 10:24

So did they die? Or did they just have a bit of fun together?

A family Christmas with two young adults is a lot different to a family Christmas with two small children and you need to roll with it.

EeeSheWasThin · 25/12/2018 10:26

Morning OP...how are they?

Smug with the resilience of youth or throwing up?

DSD was out last night and has sent a text with 🤮🤢 on it...hoping she’s fit to come over later. I’m actually not sure how I would have been feeling if they were sitting doing shots at home when it’s a family event the next day. Wouldn’t have minded if all they’ve got to do is lie in bed and recover.

lilliem · 25/12/2018 11:32

Tried calling them at 9, got greeted with groans; they have both just got up... bit disappointing really as it is late.

They got through a 70cl bottle between them Shock luckily they both seem fine and I didn't wake up after going to bed.

It's Christmas! Hello Grinch. Xmas Hmm

mrsclausisdrunk · 25/12/2018 11:34

You sound a bit passive aggressive. Chill out and let them enjoy themselves.

mrsclausisdrunk · 25/12/2018 11:35

Why are you calling them?! They're adults ffs.

AnyFucker · 25/12/2018 11:36

Leave 'em be, lillie. You sound like a right pita.

mrsclausisdrunk · 25/12/2018 11:38

I'd be fucking THRILLED if my ds came home for Christmas at that age. I'd do shots and listen to music with him.

faintlyridiculous · 25/12/2018 11:39

Does anyone else think we might need to remember what Fascinating Aida says about Christmas?

larrygrylls · 25/12/2018 11:39

All this ‘grinch’ stuff.

They had 14 units each in one sitting! If they did it regularly they risk liver disease and cancer later in life.

If it were loads of spliffs or mdma or heroin, the responses would be so different. But ridiculous quantities of strong spirits are just as bad. It has just been normalised.

ResistanceIsNecessary · 25/12/2018 11:41

I suspect that OP will be wondering in years to come, why her daughters don't want to spend time with her Christmas anymore.

MephistophelesApprentice · 25/12/2018 11:53

It's lower calories than doing them with mixers, and vodka is a real pale spirit, few congeners. Healthiest way to do the drug.

MyPoodleisWorthTenofYou · 25/12/2018 12:05

They are teenagers. They like to sleep late. NORMAL.

Don’t make Christmas a chore for them where they’re under pressure to dance to your tune and don’t feel comfortable to relax a bit.

I am currently spending my fourth Christmas in a row NOT with my family.... go figure.

SadOtter · 25/12/2018 12:06

youngest has just turned 18 and not been out drinking before. You have a 20 year old at uni who is old enough to guide the 18 year old a bit but young enough to still be cool, 18 year old now knows how her head will feel after that quantity of vodka.

Far better than the first time I tried, not long turned 18 and first time I had been out, tequila for £1, I didn't realise how strong it was. Fortunately I'm from a small town and someone phoned my Dad to come get me.

Shitmewithyourrhythmstick · 25/12/2018 12:57

Have they tended to get up earlier than 11.30 before now OP? If this is the first time it's happened, you may not realise that you had some atypical teenagers there. They sleep in!

lilliem · 25/12/2018 13:17

They're usually up early on Christmas Day, like the rest of the family.

OP posts:
Gooseygoosey12345 · 25/12/2018 13:23

Ffs it's their Christmas too. Let them enjoy it how they want to! They're adults!!

PoesyCherish · 25/12/2018 13:27

I probably would've done that at that age. Nothing wrong with it.

bringbacksideburns · 25/12/2018 13:32

Dear bloody god - it's Christmas!

They don't do it all the time I'm assuming? You could have had a couple with them.

You need to seriously chill out. They aren't 15.

BumDisease · 25/12/2018 13:44

Why do they have to get up early? They're adults.
