To think vodka shots at home are unacceptable?

Me and my friends think so! DH thinks it's fine... both DDs have bought shot glasses and 40% vodka!!! Planning on having shots tonight, isn't that something you really don't do at home?

OP posts:
Llanali · 24/12/2018 23:19

Jesus, music at 10.05pm on Christmas Eve? Whatever next??

Didsomeonesaybunny · 24/12/2018 23:19

Given that their over the age of 18 why the heck not I say?! I personally wouldn’t do shots of neat vodka (but hell yes to Sambuca) because it tastes so bloody awful but I see no harm in it

HildaZelda · 24/12/2018 23:42

Christ on a bike! (for the night that's in) Enjoy this Xmas with your DDs because with your attitude, they're not ever going to want to come home again for Xmas.
You sound exactly like my (now NC) mother who used to get her knickers in a twist if someone had more than one glass of wine.
They're 18 and 20 and doing vodka shots, not 8 and 10 snorting coke off the kitchen table.
Lighten up, join in and when you relax your bum might unclench itself!

Oh, and merry Xmas 🍸🍸🍸🍸

NotACleverName · 24/12/2018 23:47

Good god, one would think they’d sat in front of the TV shooting up smack the way you’re carrying on, OP.

Hoopaloop · 25/12/2018 00:01

They could be up to anything in their room. You should check up on them in case they are off their mash on ecstasy pipes.

twattymctwatterson · 25/12/2018 00:12

You do realise that they actually could be out in a nightclub? That's normal for an 18 and 20 year old. It sounds like you don't accept them as adults and you still want to control what they do. Btw I don't believe for a minute that your 18 year old hasn't been drunk before- they've just kept it from you. I wonder why that is?

Starstruck2020 · 25/12/2018 00:29

I would be really happy that (1) my dd’s chose to spend Christmas Eve together and not with separate friends and (2) they chose to stay home together and not go out.

I think you are being a bit grinchy to be honest. Maybe it’s an adjustment that Christmas at your house has now changed? That would be hard, but inevitable, try to roll with it

Ontheboardwalk · 25/12/2018 00:39

5 shots, that’s a lot less than a bottle of wine isn’t it?

I could inhale a bottle of wine in an hour but when I have a drink at home I have whiskey on ice. It tastes so much stronger I drink less units

Racecardriver · 25/12/2018 00:40

Vodka should only be served in a cocktail or on its own/with some ice in a proper glass. Shots of any kind are just indicative that one can’t drink liquor straight like a man.

RedLife · 25/12/2018 00:51

At 10pm?! The bastards

I was at a house party on Saturday and the neighbours knocked on at 7pm to ask us to turn the music down 🖕

Can you? Are you a man or a woman who can drink like a man? 🤔

Nillynally · 25/12/2018 00:54

Honestly? If you carry on being a Scrooge you won't have many christmases left with them. Just relax and enjoy having your happy, if slightly merry, family all under one roof.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 25/12/2018 00:58

Last time we did vodka shots in the house at Christmas my MIL came in lined up doubles and drank us all under the table got up the following day and did full on Christmas dinner Day the works as though she had been doing shots of water! I was 28
She was 54!

OP lighten up a little!

BumDisease · 25/12/2018 02:51

Well I'm 33 @OP and I'm just home from a hard night's Christmas Eve drinking at my friends' house (including MANY shots...) I better book myself into AA first thing!

kateandme · 25/12/2018 03:29

it might not be ideal op but I think most parents if they new what their kids were up to in clubs would go a bit "eech" but that's normal and then you breathe it out.the moment gone in a second because wait for it...these are your kids!and you sound like one you don't ike the way your elest lives and two you don't want them here :/
are they doing this every night.how are they usually at home?you don't mention any of this so its so hard for us to judge so we are going on just what you've said.which is your girls are home with you at xmas and they are having a little fun together.still with you.at home and being girls home together.still with you.and Im not suprisde they went upstairs if your giving the feeling off to them as you are through your typing id think my mum wanted me out and would want to be gone out her way as soon as.

Georgiepeorgiepuddingandpie · 25/12/2018 03:34

Lol YABU killjoy

Georgiepeorgiepuddingandpie · 25/12/2018 03:34

It's Christmas!!!

MrsFoxPlus4 · 25/12/2018 04:31

My mum always said she’d rsther is drinking at home than out and about. If she new we were safe she slept better regardless of some giggles & music!

steff13 · 25/12/2018 04:54

MrsFox, that's what I was going to say. I'd rather they be home drinking than out possibly unable to get home safely or being taken advantage of.

brizzledrizzle · 25/12/2018 05:03

Hmm, so does this mean iabu to have bought my dd a bottle of gin for xmas? She's an adult and can make her own choices, as can yours.

ToastyFingers · 25/12/2018 05:20

Ha, all my adverts are for vodka now.

OP, you sound like a massive killjoy. Lighten up or you'll be getting the 'duty visit' in years to come.

GunpowderGelatine · 25/12/2018 05:32

I lived in a home where, when I turned 18, drinking more than a thimble full of alcohol was met with tutting and judgement and comments like 'unacceptable'. It's no fun and I feel very sorry for adult children of parents who have weird food and drink issues

GunpowderGelatine · 25/12/2018 05:34

And FWIW a good quality vodka should never be mixed with someone as vulgar as coke or juice. Shots only, yummy!

GunpowderGelatine · 25/12/2018 05:38

I'm honestly surprised how many are fine with it. They'll be making a racket with the music till early hours... I see it now. Being woken up because one has thrown up and it all being a drama in the morning. I suppose I'm picking specifically on vodka shots because it doesn't take much to be absolutely out of it

Ah this takes me back to my youth where my wild nights were spelled out to me before they even happened by my lemon faced mother. "You'll be sicking it all up and making noise and embarrassing yourself and upsetting everyone" whilst on my second drink. I never did. I did trip up the stairs once coming home from a night out though and nearly 20 years later she still tells people about the time "Gunpowder was so drunk she couldn't even stand". Dick

Magentaorwagenta · 25/12/2018 06:05

Op are you my mother?!

Get the stick out of yer arse and get a grip instead.
