To think vodka shots at home are unacceptable?

Me and my friends think so! DH thinks it's fine... both DDs have bought shot glasses and 40% vodka!!! Planning on having shots tonight, isn't that something you really don't do at home?

My friend went to a party in Essex which had a vodka fountain. That was in someone's home.
She fell over and vomited on their new carpet after a while.
So anyone can do anything, if it appears to be legal.

LuckyLou7 · 24/12/2018 18:01

Exactly like a nightclub, yes.

@blueskiesandforests that made me laugh Xmas Grin

The girls will be the envy of their friends, downing shots under the watchful and fearful eye of their mum.

OP I think you should join them. Have a shot, see what it's all about.

MyBreadIsEggy · 24/12/2018 18:02

blueskies it’s nice with appletiser too.
Buffalo grass vodka, shot of goldschlager and appletiser it’s like a glass of fizzy apple pie Grin

gimmeadoughnut123 · 24/12/2018 18:02

When I was your DDs age I did this at home. Most vodka is about 40% and having shots/other pre-drinks at home makes a night out cheaper. I don't know many people that haven't done this before a night out.

starzig · 24/12/2018 18:03

DH and me are over 40 and have shots at home.

gimmeadoughnut123 · 24/12/2018 18:05

Even if they aren't going for a night out...still fine. Why is it acceptable for people to have quite a bit to drink on Xmas day but not for 2 siblings to have a few shots and a laugh together on Xmas eve? They're both of legal drinking age, as long as they don't throw up on your floor, let them have their fun.

bellie710 · 24/12/2018 18:06

God I've heard it all now, if they were 5 then yes it is unacceptable, 18 & 20 really??

BarooSaidTheBear · 24/12/2018 18:07

I would probably let them get on with it but wake them up really early with kippers for breakfast.

BollockingBaubles · 24/12/2018 18:08

Type of thing I did until about 25 years old with my friends to be honest.

They're young and Christmas is the party season for many. Totally accepatable in my opinion

blueskiesandforests · 24/12/2018 18:09

MyBreadIsEggy I'd never heard of goldschlager - which my autocorrect changes to Golfschläger (golf club)... Grin cinnamon schnapps, sounds interesting!

My late MIL made her own schnapps and passed around the shot glasses and pressed everyone over 18 to partake in shots of a choice of home made schnapps after any substantial meal, often at 3pm...

BringOnTheScience · 24/12/2018 18:10

If we're having fajitas, then DH & have a tequila shot before each one. Salt & lime. Don't see any problem with it.

Stephisaur · 24/12/2018 18:11

My brother and I used to do shots at home when I was younger.

There was one “memorable” Christmas when we did shots of limoncello after dinner. I outdrank him and had to be put to bed by my now husband!

It’s just a bit of fun, IMO

MyBreadIsEggy · 24/12/2018 18:13

blueskies it is a kind of cinnamon flavoured schnapps, it has pretty bits of edible gold glitter floating in it, which makes cocktails look pretty Grin

Theoryofmould · 24/12/2018 18:13

I think it's a gruesome thing to do, however my dd 19 thinks it's perfectly acceptable and her and her friends do them before they go out to a club.

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 24/12/2018 18:13

Why is it unacceptable? A group of us get together every Sunday ( alternate houses) and always have a particular shot... usually just the one but occasionally more. The drinks and glasses even have their own special bag. There usually a WhatsApp asking where the shot bag is. Oldest member of our group is 62.....

masterandmargarita · 24/12/2018 18:16

It's a bit like the thread where someone said it was 'unacceptable' to get drunk with ones adult dd

JulieBindelAteMyHomework · 24/12/2018 18:16

Just imagine OP if they get absolutely hammered they'll be fit for nothing in the morning so that'll be two less for Christmas dinner tomorrow 😘

lilliem · 24/12/2018 18:16

I'm honestly surprised how many are fine with it. They'll be making a racket with the music till early hours... I see it now. Being woken up because one has thrown up and it all being a drama in the morning. I suppose I'm picking specifically on vodka shots because it doesn't take much to be absolutely out of it.

OP posts:
Imissgmichael · 24/12/2018 18:18

OP would you prefer them to go out and drink alit rather then doing it at home where they’re safe.

NotACleverName · 24/12/2018 18:19

They'll be making a racket with the music till early hours... I see it now.

Are you not able to use your words irl? If they do, tell them to turn it down. It's not hard. But seriously, unclench or you'll only make Christmas miserable yourself.

ResistanceIsNecessary · 24/12/2018 18:20

So tell them to pack it in at a reasonable hour!

I get it - you don't approve. But they are legally adults and doing it in the comfort of home. Yes there is a balance between not getting legless and then writing off the whole of Christmas Day, but you don't need to glower at them from the other side of the room as they are happily enjoying themselves. Lighten up!

recklessruby · 24/12/2018 18:20

Sorry I think it's fine. Dd 24 ds30 and me 50 have just done toffee vodka shots and now onto jaegerbombs. It's Christmas Smile

BumDisease · 24/12/2018 18:23

If it bothers you so much OP tell them to piss off out to a pub and do it.

TeaStory · 24/12/2018 18:23

Reminds me of my old housemate, who thought every person who touched alcohol was some kind of degenerate party animal.

It doesn’t sound like your daughters have ever been big drinkers or done any of what you foresee before, OP, so unclench! Your posts sound really OTT, with your shock over 40% vodka (normal, BTW) and your attitude towards your daughter’s university experience. Have you been very sheltered?

HopeGarden · 24/12/2018 18:23

It’s not something I’d do myself, but as long as they’re not planning on getting legless I wouldn’t consider it unacceptable.
