To think vodka shots at home are unacceptable?

Me and my friends think so! DH thinks it's fine... both DDs have bought shot glasses and 40% vodka!!! Planning on having shots tonight, isn't that something you really don't do at home?

I'll also be having a few argmanacs or cognacs after Christmas dinner tomorrow which is also 'spirits in a glass'.

Glitteryfrog · 24/12/2018 21:04

@kissingintherain - Clubs are different I suppose: there’s probably nothing good about them, socially speaking.

Oh I dunno. I met my husband in a club on xmas eve. Smile

MiraculousMarinette · 24/12/2018 21:06

bathtimesanity, most oh here believe only drunk times = fun times and anyone who doesn't follow that is an uptight party pooper.

lilliem · 24/12/2018 21:10

They're currently on about 5 shots and still sitting watching the TV. Maybe I am miserable but honestly all I can say is I'll be on edge all night.

Knittedfairies · 24/12/2018 21:13

You’d be even more on edge if they’d told you they were going out to drink shots. At least you know where they are.

bumblebee39 · 24/12/2018 21:15

This seems like a non issue

"Adult children drinking"

Mm ok?
My parents had to put up with worse from me before I was 18

bathtimesanity · 24/12/2018 21:17

@lilliem 5 shots each? Fucking hell I'd be dead. And I'm only 20 😂😂

Stompythedinosaur · 24/12/2018 21:20

When I lived in Finland we would have shots of vodka before a meal and between courses. Allegedly to cleanse the palette or some such. I think it was a Russian thing.

Dp and I have been known to hide in the kitchen for a shot of vodka or two on Xmas day when the cooking is going wrong and my family are being particularly trying. I find it improves my mood no end!

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 24/12/2018 21:21

I just think you could take it a bit easier, my mum is like this about drinking and stuff so we never get to have a laugh realy. I’m not a massive drinker but I don’t like being policed as an adult.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 24/12/2018 21:36

I'm aware that drink tends to polarise people on MN but OP's DDs aren't on mumsnet!

Meangirls36 · 24/12/2018 21:38

Love neat alcohol

flamingofridays · 24/12/2018 21:44

On edge all night? Why? Theyre grown adults. Leave them to it. They're watching tv not doing lines off your coffee table ffs.

KissingInTheRain · 24/12/2018 21:48

Glitteryfrog

I take it all back!

chocolatecoveredraisons · 24/12/2018 22:00

Have you suggested turning into a cocktail rather than a shot. Sorry but I agree it's weird to do shots of vodka whilst watching TV. Get the music on and dim the lights. Eat drink and dance on the table if you're doing vodka shots 😂🙈

lilliem · 24/12/2018 22:04

They asked for music channel but me and DH are watching TV, they have headed to one of their bedrooms. Can hear the music from here, lovely...

OP posts:
TheFaerieQueene · 24/12/2018 22:08

Just relax. They are at home having a bit of fun.
Tbh I’m amazed they haven’t gone out.

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 24/12/2018 22:13

Don’t you want them to be home with you?

Unclench or they will end up avoiding Christmas with you.

LuckyLou7 · 24/12/2018 22:28

They probably won't come home for Christmas again. They're adults for goodness sake! Why the high level of anxiety about a few vodka shots?

AnotherRoadsideAttraction · 24/12/2018 22:30

For some reason this thread makes me sad. OP I wish you would go up and have a shot (or another glass of wine) with them and enjoy their youthful pleasure at being at home together!

SheCameFromGreeceSheHadaThirst · 24/12/2018 22:34

isn't that something you really don't do at home?

Whilst watching 'Homes under the Hammer' - probably not acceptable.

Christmas Eve - yeah, why not.

BlaaBlaaBlaa · 24/12/2018 22:40

You sound like you don't even want them there. It's like you're waiting for them to do something to piss you off.

ThatsWotSheSaid · 24/12/2018 22:47

Bet they are having a lovely time. Shame you can’t get on board with a bit of Christmas silliness.

chaoscategorised · 24/12/2018 23:06

Relax a bit OP - they're your (presumably) beloved children, enjoying each other's company, in the family home at Christmas, doing a very normal thing for teens/early 20s. If they get paralytic or cause a nightmare then fine, but otherwise just chill and let them have fun - being hungover at Christmas at least once is a rite of passage, surely? And at least they're at home instead of out in a horrible nightclub spending a fortune and freezing their arses off like I was at their age. Don't spend the night in a tizz over something that might be nothing more than a stupid Christmas hangover!

RhiWrites · 24/12/2018 23:11

This thread makes me want to do vodka shots.

CoughLaughFart · 24/12/2018 23:15

Can hear the music from here, lovely...

At 10pm?! The bastards.
