To think vodka shots at home are unacceptable?

Me and my friends think so! DH thinks it's fine... both DDs have bought shot glasses and 40% vodka!!! Planning on having shots tonight, isn't that something you really don't do at home?

WoodBurnerBabe · 24/12/2018 17:47

As long as they aren't 8 and 10 I think it's fine...

MyBreadIsEggy · 24/12/2018 17:47

I’m half Polish....vodka shots are pretty standard in my house.
I don’t mean lining them up and getting absolutely spangled, but we will definitely be having a couple each.
Then when we go to mum’s tomorrow, vodka will be passed around after lunch - kind of like how some people have brandy after dinner, we have vodka.

ClandestineAdulation · 24/12/2018 17:48

YABU. They’re both legally allowed to drink, I don’t see a problem with it.

BumDisease · 24/12/2018 17:48

Nowt wrong with that, especially the lemon stuff on my fridge from Poland...

larrygrylls · 24/12/2018 17:50

I think that the acid test is whether they will behave decently. A few shots, a little tipsy and laughing over some late night TV is fine.

Paralytic with you expected to pick up the pieces and getting no help on Christmas Day, absolutely unacceptable (especially if vomit clearing up involved).

lilliem · 24/12/2018 17:51

I know they're legally allowed to drink, but it's Christmas Eve and they want to get pissed from vodka shots (clearly are planning to have many) and the youngest (just 18, has never even been out drinking before) would never usually do this. Eldest is back from uni and was clearly the one thinking of this. It's usually nice to be up early-ish on Christmas Day, but if they're up causing a scene at 5am, I can't see our Christmas going very well.

So they are drinking vodka and orange just separately?

Not for me. But I do like a single malt and will be drinking a shot of this later in my capacity as Santa stand in

Badcat666 · 24/12/2018 17:51

Dear Gods, perfectly normal! And a lot bloody cheaper (and a lot safer) than doing it at a pub or club. I think it's rather lovely they want to neck some shots together , some siblings can't bear to be in the same room as each other at that age.

NotACleverName · 24/12/2018 17:52

That stick that you've got wedged up your behind will come in handy if floors need to be swept, I guess.

If they want to get pissed on Christmas Eve so what?

moredoll · 24/12/2018 17:53

Well if they're starting now they'll be out cold by 5am.

LuckyLou7 · 24/12/2018 17:53

I'd be drinking vodka shots if I wasn't on the night shift tonight Xmas Grin

As long as they don't neck the entire bottle and spend Christmas Day dying in hangover hell, it'll be fine. No more unacceptable than having a sweet sherry or three insert tipple of your choice on Christmas Eve.

lilliem · 24/12/2018 17:53

Eldest says it's great, taking the shot of orange after "stops the burn" HmmHmmHmm I just feel our house is being treated like some kind of nightclub, as she has come home from uni and expects to continue the partying here.

Powerbunting · 24/12/2018 17:53

Well see how it goes. Warn them they have to clear up any vomit etc and chat about what your/ their plans are for tomorrow. Start times etc

larrygrylls · 24/12/2018 17:54

I think that, as a lot of middle aged Mnetters drink rather too much, drunkenness (and everything that goes with it) gets a very easy ride on this site compared to some other types of bad behaviour.

MyBreadIsEggy · 24/12/2018 17:55

It’s Christmas!!
Sounds to me like your DD’s have missed each other and are looking forward to having a laugh and a few drinks while the eldest is home.
Might be a learning curve for the youngest DD if she’s never been much of a drinker before!

goforkyourself · 24/12/2018 17:55

Anyfucker I had the Polish black cherry vodka from Krakow. It was A Ma Zing Wine

Bluelady · 24/12/2018 17:56

Over reaction, OP. Huge over reaction.

blueskiesandforests · 24/12/2018 17:56

lilliem have you ever been to a nightclub? A 20 year old doing shots with her 18 year old sister in their parents living room on Christmas Eve evening, mother nagging and fussing to be told the number of shots they plan to drink, nobody else invited...

Exactly like a nightclub, yes.

LittleCandle · 24/12/2018 17:56

We'll be drinking flavoured vodka - but not as a shot - later on tonight when I am finished driving for the day. We do this on Christmas Eve each year. At least your kids are drinking at home where you know they will be safe, but to be honest, I don't see an issue unless they are causing a riot later.

JennyHolzersGhost · 24/12/2018 17:57

Unclench, OP.

mumto2teenagers · 24/12/2018 17:58

I think it's pretty normal. Although Xmas eve might not be the best evening for your 18 year old to do it if she doesn't normally drink. She might end up regretting it tomorrow.

My 19 year old dd is back from Uni and planning a big night out, she has been warned she needs to be up mid-morning, have dinner with us and come to my sisters in the evening to give presents to her young cousins and I don't want her spending the whole day moaning she feels ill.

DotForShort · 24/12/2018 17:58

Never visit Russia, OP. Grin

flameycakes · 24/12/2018 17:58

Wait till the morning, there will be groans of never drinking again, till the next time xxxx

NoseyParker11 · 24/12/2018 17:59

other types of bad behaviour

ROFL

blueskiesandforests · 24/12/2018 17:59

DH was given buffalo grass vodka by a Polish colleague last year. He advised us to drink it with apple juice surprisingly. So we did. Perhaps apple juice and ice cubes is the over 40s adaption...

Actually there might be some left, I was thinking about Baileys...
