To think I can have sex before period without getting pregnant.

I usually use condoms but around 2 days before my period I allow my partner to ejaculate inside me. He looks forward to this each month lol so I allow it as a treat.

I don’t want anymore children. I have been doing this for the past 2 years and seems to have worked so far.
I don’t do this anywhere near ovulation. Am I being risky?

Yes

Aquamarine1029 · 24/12/2018 00:16

Of course you are. Don't be daft.

Fluffyears · 24/12/2018 00:16

Hmm yes it’s risky!

Applecrumble79 · 24/12/2018 00:17

I don’t agree though. Conception can only happen during ovulation. I will have already ovulated by more than a week prior to my period

Costacoffeeplease · 24/12/2018 00:19

Why ask then?

Bambamber · 24/12/2018 00:19

Do you actually track your ovulation? There's always a risk you'll ovulate later than usual.

Fortheloveofscience · 24/12/2018 00:21

Hmm. Yes, it’s risky. All it would take is for you to ovulate late one month. Do you test each month to see when you’re ovulating? I’d have thought that sooner or later you’d end up pregnant.

Applecrumble79 · 24/12/2018 00:21

Yes I track it roughly. Wondered what the general view was really.

CatToddlerUprising · 24/12/2018 00:21

It’s a treat for him to ejaculate inside you? Would he consider it a treat if you both had another child?

OMGFFS · 24/12/2018 00:22

You are being VERY stupid.

SantasBassoon · 24/12/2018 00:23

I allow my partner to ejaculate inside me. He looks forward to this each month lol so I allow it as a treat.

That's an unusual arrangement. I'll have a little think about your question, while you remain steadfast...

Applecrumble79 · 24/12/2018 00:23

I just sense ovulation. I know the signs.

Redskyandrainbows67 · 24/12/2018 00:23

If your periods are very regular then the risk is low

However I do know two couples that have relied on this and both have unexpected children!

RumerGodden · 24/12/2018 00:24

Yes, I ovulate right before my period, got pregnant around the day of my period several times! As others have said, depends on length of your cycle, where in that cycle you ovulate..

StillMedusa · 24/12/2018 00:25

As long as you don't mind another pregnancy....
I have four children whom I adore. However one was conceived on the pill, one a 'I can't possibly have ovulated that late!' baby....

Sparklesocks · 24/12/2018 00:25

It’s unlikely, but not impossible for you to get pregnant then. And clearly it does worry you or you wouldn’t ask.
It seems silly to risk it when you could go on the pill, get the coil/IUD etc to reduce that worry in the back of your mind.

Bambamber · 24/12/2018 00:25

I certainly wouldn't risk it. Many people do this for years with no problems, many end up pregnant. The consequences of an unwanted pregnany far outweigh a partner looking forward to ejaculating inside you once a month. Just use contraception if you genuinely don't want more children

LaurieMarlow · 24/12/2018 00:25

It's not failsafe. You could ovulate later than anticipated on any given month. My cycle as gone haywire in the last 2 years.

Ultimately it depends how badly you want to avoid pregnancy. Are you charting ovulation?

LetBartletBeBartlet · 24/12/2018 00:26

Would you be happy to have an abortion?

Didyeeaye · 24/12/2018 00:27

Just get the implant or coil if you don't want children but enjoy him ejaculating inside you. Contraception is fairly easy to come by and would save you gambling each month

Applecrumble79 · 24/12/2018 00:27

Thanks. I really don’t like the thought of chemicals in my body. I’m also at risk of blood clots so hormonal contraception is a no no.
But I guess I need to reconsider what I’m doing.

OP: Am I being risky?
MN: Yes.
OP: I don’t agree though.
Me: (le sigh)

I track my periods and ovulation with an app, rather than "sensing it", 2 days before my period starts it says "low chance of getting pregnant" not "no chance of getting pregnant"

So Yes you are being risky. Geez just get a coil or something. Hmm

RumerGodden · 24/12/2018 00:28

Even if you can sense ovulation (and in fact, you may be sensing pre-ovulation etc) what you can't sense is how long that egg takes to travel along its way...it could be 3 days, it could be 9.

Why don't you let him ejaculate when you have your period? much safer bet!

JustThisTimeAgain · 24/12/2018 00:29

Copper coils don't use hormones.
