To ask which of these pictures to give to my mum?

I like landscape photography.

My mum said back in the summer that for her Christmas present from me she would like one of my photos framed (bless)

I've narrowed it down to 3 but not sure which to choose.

Can I borrow some mumsnet wisdom to help me decide?

By the way this is not a fishing for compliments exercise, I am no David Bailey (he's a photographer...right?)

I like the third one

HollowTalk · 17/12/2018 11:12

I'd say one of the first two, but it depends on the colour of her room and whether she enjoys bright or dark colours.

Weirdpenguin · 17/12/2018 11:13

The middle one

FestiveLemur · 17/12/2018 11:14

The first one. So gorgeous and uplifting Smile

catmumof1 · 17/12/2018 11:14

They're all gorgeous! Would any of them in particular complement the wall colours in the room she's going to put them in?

Pachyderm1 · 17/12/2018 11:14

Third one

The second one

Good point on room decor. Don't know where she would put it but the whole house is very neutral. Mostly light grey walls

They're all lovely but what kind of person is she, what is the decor like?

I could put fire up quite easily in my living room, it's lovely and would fit. Earth I'm a bit meh about. It's pretty but nothing special. I think Water is the best photographically and could literally go anywhere. It's really soothing.

So in conclusion, I'd go water first choice, fire second choice. Not earth.

PineappleTart · 17/12/2018 11:17

Are any of these places special to either of you? I prefer the first one personally. The black and white is striking but a little generic if you know what I mean

trinitybleu · 17/12/2018 11:18

Where's the 2nd one taken? Looks familiar

Lollygaggles · 17/12/2018 11:19

My nephew is a photographer and what he did was he framed one print for me as a gift and included another tucked inside the back of the frame. I think you could do that and then she could pick her own favourite, or rotate them. Smile

Notrusthere · 17/12/2018 11:19

All 3 places are ones we know in the Peak District (biased because we live so close but the most beautiful place)

None of them are particularly special to her but she likes all 3

Middle!

highwoodwitch · 17/12/2018 11:21

I think the sunset is the best photo but if she likes more minimalist/scandi then the waterfall. So nice to have such a personal present.

onalongsabbatical · 17/12/2018 11:21

Awww, how lovely that she wants one of your pix! I like them all. Here's how I'd try deciding.

  1. Is about drama, change, distant warmth, the emerging light.
  2. Is about calm, colour contrasts, cleanliness, clear lines, openness.
  3. Is emotional, romantic, turbulence, has some sadness in it.
Now obviously that's me, but I'm just saying what my own thought processes would be if I was going to get myself one of your pictures. So maybe that helps, I hope so!
Notrusthere · 17/12/2018 11:21

Oh bugger I was hoping there would be a consensus 😅

Could you do them smaller and buy a triple frame? The thre elements?

steppemum · 17/12/2018 11:21

definitely go with the one which fits her house. I hate receiving things that don't 'fit'

If she is a neutrals person, I woudl go with the waterfall, as it would look lovely in a grey tones room.

But if she has grey plus a couple of pruple highlights (for example) go for the heathery one.

They are all lovely by the way. I love the first one, but I think that would be the hardest to place in terms of colour.

(love th eidea of them as a set of earth fire water - do you have one which could be air?)

PumpkinKitty82 · 17/12/2018 11:22

They’re lovely . 1 or 3 are my favourites

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 17/12/2018 11:22

I love the first one.

DorisTroy · 17/12/2018 11:23

The first one

SleepingStandingUp · 17/12/2018 11:24

steppemum thank you, I'm too sleep deprived to rmemever the fourth element. I KNEW there were 4 lol

DonaldDucksTowel · 17/12/2018 11:25

Ooo yes I like the idea of all the elements
