To ask which of these pictures to give to my mum?

I like landscape photography.

My mum said back in the summer that for her Christmas present from me she would like one of my photos framed (bless)

I've narrowed it down to 3 but not sure which to choose.

Can I borrow some mumsnet wisdom to help me decide?

By the way this is not a fishing for compliments exercise, I am no David Bailey (he's a photographer...right?)

The first one. As a PP said, it is ‘uplifting’. Great photos!

Mayrhofen · 17/12/2018 11:56

2 OR 3

user1474894224 · 17/12/2018 11:57

Number 2 would be the one to go on my wall. The beauty of nature shines through. The gorgeous colour of the heather. The hope that comes on a beautiful day. Not a boring picture at all.

MadGoose · 17/12/2018 11:58

Don't know about your mum, but I'll have the third one please! Grin

1 or 3. As others have said, 2 is 'pleasant' but I wouldn't choose to display it.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 17/12/2018 11:58

they're all fabulous, and how lovely to have such personal present. But on a practical note I think the third would be the easiest to hang as there's no need to worry about it clashing with whatever else she has in the room.

Hubbleisback · 17/12/2018 12:03

First one please.

Peachbubble · 17/12/2018 12:03

No 1, with no 2 second favourite

KateDuRhone · 17/12/2018 12:06

Middle!

RightYesButNo · 17/12/2018 12:06

It depends where it might go? For an entry or something along those lines, I would say 3. For hanging in a lounge, somewhere with a fireplace, I would say 1. For somewhere that’s bright or airy or light, maybe a kitchen or neutral but bright bedroom, 2.

Also (I’ve done this when a family member requested one of my photographs), since these are all landscape orientation, you could print all three the same size, frame one, and give her the other two in a nice envelope and let her swap them out every few months if she’d like, perhaps with the seasons, as 2 would be lovely for spring and summer while 1 might be nice for autumn.

BoswellandForshort · 17/12/2018 12:08

I agree with a PP that if her house is neutral-based, then 3 will probably work best.

(Though 1 is my favourite)

dontgobaconmyheart · 17/12/2018 12:12

How sweet! Agree that it really (ideally) depends on where she would realistically want to hang it with her own decor. What's nice/striking to look at isn't always what you want on the wall, certain moods just aren't what a lot of people want to evoke at home. Ass someone who sells their photography professionall, people do always 'wow' at the moodier, stark or striking images in the bright colours and these edit well but the most popular to buy and put up tend to be the neutral, natural, relaxing scenes.

With that said the only thing that matters here is her taste. I suspect she'd be pleased regardless since she is clearly proud; why not give her the choice? It's not a surprise gift if she has requested it so i'd probably just wrap up a suitably nice neutral frame that matches her decor and insert a message saying that any photo she chooses I'd have made up and put in it, then let her flick through the digital files. Make it fun!

If you really want to surprise her I'd consider whichever if any had personal meaning or were say, a location she liked. If you just want a pick of the three you've given, If I were choosing I'd pick the middle image, I just prefer a softer image for the wall and my decor and the other two would clash in my home. Testament to the point that it's often more about what 'goes' or resonates than deciding which photograph is technically best.

Confusedbeetle · 17/12/2018 12:14

All 3

Lobsterquadrille2 · 17/12/2018 12:16

I like them all but the third is my favourite. I love the movement of the water.

MarklahMarklah · 17/12/2018 12:23

With grey ish walls then either the flaming orange of the sunset one, or the monochrome look of the last.

I live with a photographer. We spend a lot of time talking about images! Grin

Clawdy · 17/12/2018 12:27

First one. It's lovely.

recently · 17/12/2018 12:28

Middle

JaneJeffer · 17/12/2018 12:28

No. 2

verite · 17/12/2018 12:30

I have deliberately not read the thread so not influenced. My order is 3,1 then 2. But some people are not keen on black and white and prefer some colour. If your mum is like that, I would swop 3 and 1 over.

Drogosnextwife · 17/12/2018 12:31

I wpuld do them all. You can get nice phrames for really cheap, then at has the choice. I would probably make 3 copies for myself too, they are beautiful. I love photos like that.

HolesinTheSoles · 17/12/2018 12:33

My order of preference would go 2 1 3.

HolesinTheSoles · 17/12/2018 12:33

Great photos!

Kikidelivers · 17/12/2018 12:33

Surprise her and give all 3

Lauren83 · 17/12/2018 12:34

I like second and third

brizzledrizzle · 17/12/2018 12:34

the second one as a gift for somebody depending on the colours in their room.

CaroloftheBalls · 17/12/2018 12:35

The sunrise

It’s optimistic, inspiring and so very cheerful!
