Posting for traffic!
Stupid husband has arranged for us to go to MIL for the pressie run on the 22nd-23rd, last minute. I've had my shopping booked for the 22nd for weeks but have now had to cancel. Desperately trying to find another slot but no one has anything in the on the 23rd or 24th.
Ive tried;
Tesco
Asda
Morrisons
Waitrose

Quick! Where am I missing? I really really really don't want to do a whole food shop in person on Christmas Eve!! Sad

Can you book someone on task rabbit (or similar if they’re not in your area) to do the shop for you?

DarlingNikita · 15/12/2018 10:57

I'm baffled as to why you had to cancel the shopping rather than rearrange the trip to MIL's.

Just go early on 22nd, 23rd or Christmas Eve. We do it every year. At the supermarket for 7am, back home with a coffee by 8.30am. Never not been able to get everything, it's quiet and you get to pick your own stuff.

Eliza9917 · 15/12/2018 11:11

I'd never have cancelled. I'd have only gone to mils on the 23rd.

Could you now do your shopping in the middle of the night at a 24hr store?

blackteasplease · 15/12/2018 11:12

I wouldn't have cancelled in a blue moon.

maddiemookins16mum · 15/12/2018 11:12

Iceland (did mine this morning), have ordered their top rated frozen turkey crown too.

PolkaDoting · 15/12/2018 11:34

Click and collect!

Stormy76 · 15/12/2018 11:40

Why did you cancel? Surely you had a 2 hour slot so could have arranged to visit outside of that?

cuppycakey · 15/12/2018 11:41

All the click and collect slots at my gigantic local branch are gone - nothing until 27 Dec so I don't know if that will be an option for OP.

DishranawaywiththeSpoon · 15/12/2018 11:48

Have you actually cancelled your delivery slot before you found a new one? Thatss madness.

Really you're just gonna have to go to the shops, up until a few years ago everyone managed it. I would get all non perishables this week and then everything else an early supermarket run on the 22nd or the 24th. I have always been shopping on Christmas eve and tbh it's never that bad round me. Long queues for the tills but other than that can normally navigate the shop fine

It's annoying as well because 23rd is the perfect day to go to the supermarket. Gives you some wiggle room if your particular shop is out of something. Maybe buy frozen as much as possible this week if you have freezer space?

DishranawaywiththeSpoon · 15/12/2018 11:49

Oh yes you could find a 24hr tesco and do it at 1am. I love a middle of the night trip round tesco

BettyDuMonde · 15/12/2018 12:01

Ask a neighbour to sign for and in-ask your shopping?

Pay them (or buy them a gift, or offer a reciprocal favour) for their time?

TheFatberg · 15/12/2018 12:09

JinglingHellsbells nothing worse than people who bleat on about first world problems. Let's not care about anything in our own lives because other people have it harder than us.

Cherrysherbet · 15/12/2018 12:12

Just go to the shop. Is it really that much of a big deal?? What did we all do before online shopping?? Jeez I can thing of a million things that would be awful , tragic things to happen.

This is not one of them.
Supermarkets are everywhere. You need to get a grip. Ffs. Hmm

tkband3 · 15/12/2018 12:22

I have a similar problem...we're going away for Christmas and I was feeling very smug about having booked my Sainsbury's delivery when the slots were first available, to arrive the morning after we get to our holiday cottage Halo. Realised last night that I'd stupidly not changed the delivery address, so it was booked to come to home! Can't change it as there are no other slots available; can't have it delivered to home before we go as we won't have room in the car for all the shopping, presents, the 5 of us and the dog. V annoyed with myself - serves me right for being so smug.

So I will be shopping on the Saturday morning or Christmas Eve. I refuse to shop on the 23rd, as it's my birthday (and it's a big one this year) Grin,

Oh, and just to warn those of you saying you can shop early or late on the 23rd - it's a Sunday, so shops only open 10-4 or 11-5.

Happy Christmas everyone Xmas Grin Xmas Grin.

Tinaarena · 15/12/2018 12:40

Ill be honest I thought this was going to be a bit better given the title. Grin

first world problems and that! I hope you survive this terrible event.

3luckystars · 15/12/2018 12:59

Did you really cancel it, or are you just thinking about it?

GabsAlot · 15/12/2018 13:06

youre mad if u cancelled it could have done click and collect or just waited to see if another opened up

u wont get anything now

Fadingmemory · 15/12/2018 13:20

If you’re in the north you could drive into Scotland where Sunday trading hours are much less restricted...

MaggieAndHopey · 15/12/2018 13:32

Struggling to see the issue, tbh. Can you not just go to the supermarket in person and buy the shopping there?

elliollie · 15/12/2018 13:42

@EvangelineTheStarOnTheTree Get it delivered to MIL's?

MerdedeBrexit · 15/12/2018 13:54

Also, shopping aside - doesn't this mean you're going to have to spend Christmas Day prepping for the 15 people on Boxing Day, as well as (presumably) preparing the full Christmas Day meal on Christmas Eve?

Oliversmumsarmy · 15/12/2018 14:02

Friend goes about 3pm Christmas Eve to get her food shopping.

She usually comes away with a turkey for £2.50. Several large hams for £5 each and all sorts of other stuff at discount prices and they make Christmas dinner according to their bargain buys.

They are quite well off

EvangelineTheStarOnTheTree · 15/12/2018 16:17

Thanks to all those who came back with suggestions. I've managed to get a click and collect for the 21st then will go at 5am on Christmas Eve for fresh stuff.
MIL lives 200 miles away so is an over nighter. We haven't seen them for months, so we really need to go! Just wish DH had checked the calendar! Oh well, all sorted now! Smile
