Posting for traffic!
Stupid husband has arranged for us to go to MIL for the pressie run on the 22nd-23rd, last minute. I've had my shopping booked for the 22nd for weeks but have now had to cancel. Desperately trying to find another slot but no one has anything in the on the 23rd or 24th.
Ive tried;
Tesco
Asda
Morrisons
Waitrose

Quick! Where am I missing? I really really really don't want to do a whole food shop in person on Christmas Eve!! Sad

You’ve left it too sate to get a delivery that close to Xmas. I would never have cancelled the slot!

SuperSuperSuper · 15/12/2018 09:37

Get all the non-perishables asap. Christmas Eve 7am for the rest.

Woodman03 · 15/12/2018 09:40

Did DH know the shopping was booked on this day and time? Only then is he at fault.

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 15/12/2018 09:42

I always do an analogue shop (we have similar numbers to you, OP). In the days of 24hr supermarkets & online food deliveries, the supermarkets aren’t chaos anymore. There aren’t queues halfway up the aisles. People have got much more choice and ime, it has alleviated a lot of the Christmas crush.

Aridane · 15/12/2018 09:47

In London Ocado have slots for both 22nd and 23rd

IAteMyGrandma · 15/12/2018 09:49

Is Amazon Fresh an option for you? I’ve only used it a few times (we’re in London) but it’s very quick and I’ve been very happy with the quality.

Any other slots this week sometime for the non-perishables? Maybe get the bulk of it delivered that way, and just do a quick shop for the fresh stuff closer to the time? Still a couple of slots for Sainsbury’s and M&S in our area on the 22nd.

Good luck! Smile

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 15/12/2018 09:50

"Click and Collect!" is the new "cancel the cheque!!

Get yourself on google calendars OP and make sure anyone who wants to book anything looks there first, puts a stop to exactly this sort of double booking shennanighan!

Doidontimmm · 15/12/2018 09:58

Iceland?

IKnowWhere · 15/12/2018 09:58

If the present run to MIL requires an overnight stay and is something that happens every year - then I'm wondering if your DH's take on this would be - why did my wife book a shopping delivery for the weekend before Xmas when she must have known that's when we would be visiting my parents?

EffOrf · 15/12/2018 09:59

Just get an earlier slot in the week before for most stuff then go out and get a few things on Christmas Eve. Thats what I'm doing as sometimes the delivery isn't so good right near Christmas, they may not have what you want in stock or even worse the delivery could be cancelled if the weather is bad

JinglingHellsbells · 15/12/2018 10:02

1st world problem :(

mumsastudent · 15/12/2018 10:02

Iceland?

3luckystars · 15/12/2018 10:07

Keep the slot.

Let your dh go alone or with the children on the 22nd.

You go visit your MIL on the 23 or 24th or any other day of the year.

Do not cancel the slot. He will leave you stress and worry about it and, unless your MIL is a 10 hour flight away, GO SEPARATELY.

briefinterlude · 15/12/2018 10:10

If you can't get a delivery... I'm going to tell you my top secret info (can't believe I'm doing this!) If you can hold out until tea time on 23rd - it has to be tea time...so between half four and six say... we discovered by accident one year that the food hall in M and S is almost empty .... it starts to busy up again after about six. We reckon everyone heads home with the kids to feed them etc around this time. And returns in evening. The actual shop part of M and S is completely dead. I usually get everything I need - apart from maybe have to buy a slightly different ham for roasting. I hope this isn't some glitch in the universe that only happens near me but it hopefully is a national "thing" and you'll never look back! Also, you get to choose your own substitutions if necessary!

Turquoisetamborine · 15/12/2018 10:12

If I didn’t have my precious online Christmas Tesco delivery slot, I would buy all non-perishables now and message a farm shop and boom a slot to pick up a turkey, pigs in blankets, veg etc.

A few round ours do it and you just show up at a certain time, get the goods and be gone. No hanging around.

Oliversmumsarmy · 15/12/2018 10:16

I don’t do anything until Christmas Eve. I do the food shop and all the presents.

The shops are empty and it is very relaxing.

cuppycakey · 15/12/2018 10:17

Well I wouldn't have cancelled, I would have made DH re arrange MIL visit. Why wasn't that an option?

Anyway, I suspect you will have to go to shops. I go at 5am Christmas Eve, lovely and quiet.

nomilknosugarplease · 15/12/2018 10:25

Don’t go to the supermarket very late on the 23rd. I don’t know if I’ve been unlucky but I did this two years in a row at the 24h Tesco and it was absolutely rammed both times with barely anything on the shelves. It genuinely took me about three and a half hours to do the shop as you had to queue to get down the aisles. And I still came home with loads missing!

Agree with the PPs who say go at about 6am on Christmas Eve if you don’t manage to get a delivery slot. This is what I did last year and it was practically empty and everything had just been stocked. Will be doing the same this year Smile

Dragonglass · 15/12/2018 10:31

The 23rd is a Sunday this year so the supermarkets will shut at 4pm (in England anyway). I would go early on Christmas Eve OP.

TeaForTiger · 15/12/2018 10:38

Just go to the shops, it's really not that bad.

Ours open 6am on the 23rd/24th, it's actually quite a nice time to go.

Not getting all this drama.

Delatron · 15/12/2018 10:42

I would order a slot for this week for Non-perishables. Veggies will last a week etc.

Local butchers will still take meat orders for Christmas Eve collection.

BeekyChitch · 15/12/2018 10:45

Are there no neighbours or friends who could wait in for you and put it away once it's getting delivered?

Ilikeknitting · 15/12/2018 10:48

Best of luck, I’d be surprised if you found another spot now. Why did you cancel? You should have sent dh out and you stayed home.

Delatron · 15/12/2018 10:51

If the slot is cancelled then she won’t get it back now.

In hindsight getting someone to accept delivery/or leaving it outside would have been the best idea.

Jamiefraserskilt · 15/12/2018 10:54

Late night delivery slot or collect from store late in the day?
