Posting for traffic!
Stupid husband has arranged for us to go to MIL for the pressie run on the 22nd-23rd, last minute. I've had my shopping booked for the 22nd for weeks but have now had to cancel. Desperately trying to find another slot but no one has anything in the on the 23rd or 24th.
Ive tried;
Tesco
Asda
Morrisons
Waitrose

Quick! Where am I missing? I really really really don't want to do a whole food shop in person on Christmas Eve!! Sad

OP posts:
steppemum · 15/12/2018 08:53

Oh yes, do a click and collect. No fussing with the shop, just collect in your car form the back of the store.

Thehop · 15/12/2018 08:55

Get it delivered to MIl house and use it as an excuse to leave so freezer stuff doesn’t spoil.

NoLeslie · 15/12/2018 08:56

When I had similar issue Sainsburys helpfully changed my booked delivery to a click and collect. Hopefully you can do the same.

gamerchick · 15/12/2018 08:56

You know Christmas food shopping isn't the hell it used to be now so many people shop online. No more scraps in the carparks over spaces, no more hour long queues at the tills.

primoestate · 15/12/2018 08:57

Can you get it delivered to MIL's and take it home from there?

crispysausagerolls · 15/12/2018 08:57

I don’t have any advice but just wanted to come and offer sympathy/moral support. Disaster!

swingofthings · 15/12/2018 09:01

Due to insomnia I am now up between 4 and 6am. Used to feel sorry for myself, now make the best of it and do my weekly shop. I've discovered that it's actually an enjoyable experience when there is no-one on the road and the shops are only busy with the few other insomniacs!

Go at 6am Xmas eve.

CookingGood · 15/12/2018 09:02

*Here is a really outlandish idea - why don't you go to the actual supermarket and just buy what you need?

I have never done an on-line shop and always seem to manage to get to the supermarket and get what i need*

Some people Are working through until close of business on Xmas Eve (me included) and would like this one little time saver without the sarky comments

WWYDhelpplease · 15/12/2018 09:04

Book a slot for this week early with all non fresh stuff like juice etc.

Then just face a supermarket for your fresh stuff or use the high street like butchers etc.

busybarbara · 15/12/2018 09:08

Oh my lord how did any of you cope before online shopping? Also why are we putting some bleeding shopping above family. The world has gone to pot.

NoParticularPattern · 15/12/2018 09:11

I don’t get this aversion to actually going and doing the shopping? The shops are closed for all of a day. Go and do the shopping on Christmas Eve- you might even get some bargains! But I don’t quite understand why you cancelled the slot before working out if you could get another anywhere else?

CupoBlood · 15/12/2018 09:12

If you can't rebook just go during the night it's dead

PixiKitKat · 15/12/2018 09:14

I think it the fact she's food shopping for 15 people that is putting her off going in person! I can fill a trolly for just 2 of us.
I hope you find a slot for delivery. Otherwise I'd maybe break it down into a few visits after work. One night drink, one night cupboard etc

MrsStrowman · 15/12/2018 09:15

Can you do click and collect instead? We've been doing it at Tesco for about the last six weeks, no weird substitutions, the stock comes from a different store so much better than delivery from our local and collection is in three hour Windows, often free most we've paid is £2, lots more slots available and you go and get it whenever you want in that slot, no waiting around at home.

CandleWithHair · 15/12/2018 09:18

What on Earth is wrong with just going to the supermarket fgs! Why all this hysteria!? It really won’t be that bad. You could even try ordering your meat from a local butcher.

Bandol · 15/12/2018 09:21

I remember going to the massive Tesco with my mother on the last Saturday morning before Christmas in the 1980s in the days before Sunday opening and and extended opening hours.

The huge queues for the checkouts extended way down the aisles making it difficult to get anything from the shelves. And most people in the queue would be paying by cheque too I'm guessing. No quick scanning of barcodes... It was a nightmare as a small child!

likeridingabike · 15/12/2018 09:23

Personally by the time I've finished work for Christmas I'm exhausted and don't want to set foot in a supermarket or any other shop, so I have mine delivered, I've never had a weird substitution on Christmas Eve, I've used Ocado for years and rarely get subs anyway.

I don't get the snippy comments, the OP has arranged a delivery, she knows supermarkets will be open and has chosen not to take that option already, her DH has made plans without consultation which is a bad idea in the run up to Christmas.

BikeRunSki · 15/12/2018 09:23

CN you do Click n Collect from store?

Engorged · 15/12/2018 09:25

Why not change the present run? Seems ridiculous to mess about with the food when it was all booked and sorted while this run was arranged last minute.

Or drive after the food is delivered. There's always amazon too though I'm not sure their range

Engorged · 15/12/2018 09:25

You could also call your local butcher.

MrsStrowman · 15/12/2018 09:26

Other option is to go over night, DM works for a well known high end chocolatier and is always busy Christmas Eve dashing around the region she covers as the stores all have to sell through and then prepare stores for sales that start early boxing Day before they can go home. Her local store is open until eight Christmas Eve and she feels for them so goes in and starts the change over prep while they are still open. She used to get home between ten and eleven so too late for shopping, so we'd go around 1am on Christmas Eve, it was dead, there were also lots of staff frantically restocking so usually got what we needed too. Plus local butcher or m and s order to collect for the meats that my dad would collect as he'd finish work early on Christmas Eve.

Dillydallyalltheway · 15/12/2018 09:26

You will be very lucky to find another space, but good luck

loveka · 15/12/2018 09:29

Get it on 20th /21st?

Most of my stuff is coming today. It will keep!

Fresh stuff is coming from Abel and Cole on Thursday.

Meat from butcher on Christmas Eve.

Could you do that?

TheBigBangRocks · 15/12/2018 09:30

If you cant actually be bothered to go shopping then you should have kept the slot and DH could have taken the presents alone.

Eilaianne · 15/12/2018 09:33

Online shopping isn't the problem.

Your DH is the problem.

His problem to sort - simple. Either he can reschedule with MIL with an apology about not checking your other commitments, or go into a store, or make do with what you have in

I don't know why OP is running around like a blue arsed flea to sort a problem the DH has made.

Time to get a family whiteboard / pinboard / shared online calendar for Christmas OP.
