Posting for traffic!
Stupid husband has arranged for us to go to MIL for the pressie run on the 22nd-23rd, last minute. I've had my shopping booked for the 22nd for weeks but have now had to cancel. Desperately trying to find another slot but no one has anything in the on the 23rd or 24th.
Ive tried;
Tesco
Asda
Morrisons
Waitrose

Quick! Where am I missing? I really really really don't want to do a whole food shop in person on Christmas Eve!! Sad

Try your local store you'll help the local economy lol

GreenTulips · 16/12/2018 20:26

Christmas Eve and the shops are always empty. Why? Because you have been brain washed into believing the must have Christmas fayre is the be all and end all of Christmas and by some strange co insistence all the shops will be out of sprouts by the 21st December

For the record a lot of things are reduced massively Christmas Eve is a lively empty store. Try it.

Flamingle18 · 16/12/2018 21:04

Sorry late to conversation. Muscle food (on line) do some amazing Christmas hampers and their food is so nice!

ohtheholidays · 16/12/2018 21:21

I'm glad you managed to sort it out OP.

Make your DH do a job that you hate doing at Christmas to make up for the fact that you've had to change the shopping around,if it was mine I'd be making him do the last of the wrapping Xmas Grin

Ariela · 16/12/2018 21:53

I have to ask why you are food shopping with just 2 or 3 days to go before Christmas?
I bought all non perishables over the past month particularly whenever there was an offer eg nice box of shortbread in Waitrose was 25% off at the end of November, Pringles which DH loves are £1.10 in Iceland last week when I picked up various frozen food.
All veg (other than potatoes and peas in the freezer - we grow our own) I will buy from a local veg shop tomorrow or Tuesday that I intended to buy on Friday but got stuck in helping a friend, but equally 1 week before from a supermarket is fine, I will store this in our shed it's cool and dark in there and survives a good fortnight no need for the fridge.
Turkey is on order from butchers I shall collect on Sunday. Bread is on order from local village shop for collection Christmas Eve - they've a deal with a super bakery in the next town over. Milk I will buy a top-up from the village shop late pm Thursday or early first thing on Friday, that'll last till we need more at some point after Boxing day.
I won't visit a supermarket in the 2 weeks prior to Christmas, but not averse to bargain shopping after.

3luckystars · 16/12/2018 22:09

Well i dont think i have time to grow our own vegetables at this late stage, so I will also be getting them on the 23rd.

Wholovesorangesoda · 16/12/2018 22:36

I have worked in retail before, gracing both the checkouts in Safeway back in the day and those in lidl's, plus having been a shopper too, I can hand on heart say I have never encountered a lovely quiet store on Christmas eve!!! Working in a supermarket on Christmas eve is a horror, busy as heck and customers are wild cos they've left it last minute shudder

Wilmirh · 16/12/2018 23:04

Iceland I’ve just done mine for the 23rd seems like a lot of slots left x

garethsouthgatesmrs · 16/12/2018 23:21

go early morning on 23rd as soon as its open. DH should go really as its his mix up. This is what i always used to do ans it was never busy.

TitzillatheHun · 16/12/2018 23:37

Because not everyone's as fucking perfect as you Ariela. I don't know anyone that doesn't buy food in the 2 or 3 days before Christmas, I mean come on. Hmm

Dongdingdong · 17/12/2018 12:34

In London Ocado have slots for both 22nd and 23rd

Not in my part of London they don’t. It’s fully booked until post Christmas Xmas Sad

Gromit78 · 17/12/2018 13:14

Can he just not go and do the delivery himself and you can stay at home and wait for the shopping delivery? He doesn't need you to hold his hand.

caringcarer · 17/12/2018 14:21

We have 24 hours ASDA. Go in the middle of night and about 2am and not very many people there and shelves getting re- filled so all good.

caringcarer · 17/12/2018 14:24

Ariela, you smugness is not helping the OP at all.

3luckystars · 17/12/2018 15:20

No it wont help the OP but it will really help with the supermarket queues.

However, every item in our Christmas dinner is 'perishable' so I don't know what Ariela has been stocking up??

Whyislarryhappy · 17/12/2018 15:32

Iceland

Dongdingdong · 17/12/2018 15:34

Every year I vow to get my shit together and every year it's always a mad panic in the couple of days before Christmas. This time I'm going to be hitting the nearest Waitrose as soon as it opens on December 24th. Wish me luck...

GreenTulips · 17/12/2018 17:08

Slots are based on area - so only your area will have availability

Unless you're offering to take in our shopping??

Ilikeknitting · 18/12/2018 12:01

I’ve just this minute built and sent an order to ocardo. £9.99 to get my slot on Thursday but totally worth it.
Spaces are still available.
