Posting for traffic!
Stupid husband has arranged for us to go to MIL for the pressie run on the 22nd-23rd, last minute. I've had my shopping booked for the 22nd for weeks but have now had to cancel. Desperately trying to find another slot but no one has anything in the on the 23rd or 24th.
Ive tried;
Tesco
Asda
Morrisons
Waitrose

Quick! Where am I missing? I really really really don't want to do a whole food shop in person on Christmas Eve!! Sad

Get most of the shopping a day or 2 earlier, and just do a last-minute run for fresh stuff on the 23rd. The shops are only closed for a couple of days, you don't need to stock for 6 months either.

outreach29 · 15/12/2018 08:21

Ouch !! I see your problem

southnownorth · 15/12/2018 08:21

Mine is booked for the 22nd. I'm making DH go and get MIL and her presents on his own. Nothing is getting in the way of my Tesco slot.

If not get up early and go and get it all, it probably won't be as bad as you think.

BeanBagLady · 15/12/2018 08:24

Something has to give.
If Ocado have a slot use it.
If you don’t someone else will so they end up the same.
Re-boycott after Xmas.

GaryBaldbiscuit · 15/12/2018 08:24

Go to the shops, you may well get a bargain

ABCagain · 15/12/2018 08:25

Ocado offer free delivery pass for a year, last free slots 20th December, minimum spend £40 plus 30% off first order. It’s Christmas I have no principles 🥳

thebabysmellsofpooagain · 15/12/2018 08:25

I'm planning to be done with the shopping by this time next week. I'll get up early, pick up DM while DP looks after DC, do the shopping and be home by 9am.

Not ideal but you may be rapidly running out of options OP.

Good luck ThanksThanksThanks

Soontobe60 · 15/12/2018 08:26

I did delivery 2 years running but never again! I now go in the evening a few days before. This year, I will go on Saturday night. Most places will be quite empty so it won't take hours. You could go on Friday night. Wait til after the commuter rush, about 7pm, you'll be fine.

cheeseismyspiritanimal · 15/12/2018 08:29

@Soontobe60 why wouldn't you do delivery again? This is my first year of having my Christmas shop delivered and I have terrible visions of it arriving and half of it being unavailable or substituted for something completely different 😬

Jellycatspyjamas · 15/12/2018 08:29

I usually do a tesco shop first thing in the morning Christmas Eve, it's fine. Not too busy at all.

ResistanceIsNecessary · 15/12/2018 08:30

Late evening on the 23rd or very early in the morning on the 24th. I always go super-early on Xmas Eve - am normally there for about 5:30am and it's brilliant. There are a few other hardy souls like me but it's lovely and quiet, there are no queues, the shelves are full and there are loads of staff still working in the aisles if you need to find out where something is.

Last year I hit 3 supermarkets (various bits that I like from each) and was home and unpacked by 8:30am. It's worth the early start!

steppemum · 15/12/2018 08:31

you will never gte an on-line shop now. The secret is to go out at 10 pm or 6 am, shop is empty, and you can whizz round and do it all. (by preference I'd do the early morning as shelves are re-stocked overnight)

Hoppinggreen · 15/12/2018 08:32

Xmas eve at 6 in the morning.
I usually go at 6 on 23rd but by the sounds of it you won’t be home by then.
Not as issue for us this year as we are going out for a curry!
Good luck OP

Rearrange MIL trip.
Get a friend to accept the delivery. Or a friend’s teenager.
But if you’ve already cancelled, those are tips for next time.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/12/2018 08:35

Can you use a veg box scheme for veggies? Reserve turkey somewhere (or buy frozen) Buy everything that isn't fresh in advance then all you need to do is pick up the fresh stuff and the turkey if needed.

KitKat1985 · 15/12/2018 08:35

I don't think you are going to get a delivery slot now. I booked my Tesco slot in the evening on the day the delivery slots opened, and they had already mostly gone. Your options at this point if you can't face the queues are either a click and collect order, or do a shop instore at the crack of dawn or late at night.

LtGreggs · 15/12/2018 08:38

Call the store and they will swap your existing order to click & collect - first thing on 22nd or last thing on 23rd

I have done this twice before when last-minute family problems meant that we could not be in for delivery

youngestisapsycho · 15/12/2018 08:38

I do my food shop on Christmas Eve every year... it’s perfectly fine.

Lovemusic33 · 15/12/2018 08:40

Mines coming in the 22nd but in the evening, I’m doing present run the next day, meal out at lunch time on the 22nd.

I think it’s going to be pretty impossible to get a slot now Sad

Ellapaella · 15/12/2018 08:46

This year we've booked a slot on the 23rd for M&S but the two previous years we've just gone and done our shopping a couple of days before Christmas Eve and it's been fine, always plenty of stuff in stock. Online ordering is more of a gamble as I've ended up with all sorts of substitutions and product unavailability with Sainsburys, Tesco and Morrison's.

backinaminute · 15/12/2018 08:46

I have managed to book a click and collect at ASDA on the 23rd, usually use Tesco but wasn't quick enough off the mark for a delivery slot. I only booked the C&C yesterday and they still have lots of slots in our area.

MiseryLoves · 15/12/2018 08:50

Iceland haven’t opened their slots yet. They’re doing them daily.

Shit, shit, shit, shit!!!
ApolloandDaphne · 15/12/2018 08:53

Here is a really outlandish idea - why don't you go to the actual supermarket and just buy what you need?

I have never done an on-line shop and always seem to manage to get to the supermarket and get what i need.
