To think it’s rude to tell someone going into a bathroom you’re about to have a shower

Got home after work and went to use the bathroom. Relative says from downstairs “I’m gonna have a shower now”. AIBU to think it’s a bit impolite/ almost trying to be controlling?

There is not enough information here

NancyDonahue · 30/11/2018 16:35

Just say ' ok you can go after me'

Sexnotgender · 30/11/2018 16:36

Then you just reply, I’ll be finished shortly and both go about the rest of your day.

No need for drama, or a thread...

OftenHangry · 30/11/2018 16:37

Maybe they are used to someone sitting on a toilet for half an hour?

PatrickMerricksGoshawk · 30/11/2018 16:37

Not based on the details provided, no.

KittensAndCake · 30/11/2018 16:37

Who is the relative? How can they have a shower if you're in there? 🤔

mostdays · 30/11/2018 16:37

"Ok I'll shout when I'm out."

Snowwontbelong · 30/11/2018 16:39

First come first served. You can't reserve a bathroom..
Unless due to working hours in our house!!

howabout · 30/11/2018 16:39

Well wait till I've run the bath would be the likely response in our house - is this a Combi management with 2 bathrooms issue?

catlovingdoctor · 30/11/2018 16:43

Relative is step parent. I was upstairs walking towards bathroom and they heard me so called it up to me. For reference they’d been off work all day and I’d just come in after work. I think I just find it a bit entitled?

What were you going into the bathroom for?

Did they think you might leave an unpleasant odour behind? Smile

Heratnumber7 · 30/11/2018 16:44

It's really not a big deal though

HollowTalk · 30/11/2018 16:44

Whose house is it?

Oysterbabe · 30/11/2018 16:45

"OK, shall I just piss myself then?"

OftenHangry · 30/11/2018 16:45

@Heratnumber7 thought about the same. 😁

Holidayshopping · 30/11/2018 16:45

What were you going into the bathroom to do? If it was to go to the toilet (especially if to do a poo) and there was another toilet in the house, then I can kind of see her point.

catlovingdoctor · 30/11/2018 16:46

I was living here for 20 years before they moved in.

BuffaloCauliflower · 30/11/2018 16:46

I don’t understand what you’re upset about.

WinkysTeatowel · 30/11/2018 16:47

So were they suggesting you couldn't use the bathroom?

Livedandlearned2 · 30/11/2018 16:47

It is a bit entitled, but just say ok and carry on as you were. It's hard when everyone has to live together, so it's not worth a row.

howabout · 30/11/2018 16:47

If you are over 20 and working might be time to look for your own place.

Heratnumber7 · 30/11/2018 16:48

What has length of occupancy got to do with anything?

burnoutbabe · 30/11/2018 16:48

In our one bathroom flat it would be rude to go and have a shower or bath without letting the other know in a "heads up if you need a quick wee, do it now" sort of way.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 30/11/2018 16:49

In my family you would just reply "mwahahahaaah!", sprint into the bathroom, slam and lock the door, and then become deaf to all entreaties re unfairness, bagsying etc.

catlovingdoctor · 30/11/2018 16:51

Why should I move out of my home just because I’m over 20? I’m quite happy in it? I’m working to pay fees next year for a postgrad course I’m going to do
