DS5's friend caught me on the toilet - WWYD

Long-time lurker, and finally I have a reason to post in AIBU.

DS and his friend (both 5) had a playdate at our home yesterday. All was well, they were playing quietly with Legos downstairs so I went upstairs to read Mumsnet go to the loo. I hadn't been there very long (5 mins max) when the door burst open (old house, broken toilet lock) and DS's friend was standing there looking as surprised as I was. I said, oops! and he shut the door and ran away. I went downstairs and he was back in the living room with DS.

I asked friend if he needed anything, like the toilet, and he replied that no, he had been exploring the house. All seemed ok, boys played well, friend's mum came to pick him up on time, I made no mention of the toilet incident, everything ok.

At night friend's mum texted me to say she'd heard about the toilet incident from her son. It was "inappropriate" for her son to have found me in "such a compromising position" and that she would have to "think carefully about any future playdates."

I was literally sitting on the loo with nothing visible apart from cellulitey thighs!

I am now sitting on my hands because I just want to text back all sorts of rude words, but the boys have turned out to be really good friends and I am hoping their friendship won't be affected by something like this. WWYD?

I would say “ thank god he only saw me on the toilet, and didn’t find the dungeon with people chained to the wall”

You were in a pub with 2 five yo, and you left them to go to the loo with the door open? Were you drunk op? Or is that just @notan
????

DishingOutDone · 28/11/2018 19:19

@notan
What boundaries did the child have? They opened a shut door without knocking in a ‘strange’ household. They didn’t know it was a toilet, could have been a red room of pain?

This mother was weird but I don't understand why people don't just buy and fit locks! It really isn't that complicated a job, why risk embarrassment to yourself and others?

BeatriceBee · 28/11/2018 19:22

For goodness sake! She said "the door burst open", so it was obviously closed and the lock was broken, so assume she couldn't lock it. Also, she said he would only have seen her naked thighs, so why are people saying she was naked? Give her a break!

Children don't tell you about everyday things. They tell you about things that upset them. This upset the child and it shouldn't have been allowed.

A naked from the waist down Mummy on the toilet would have freaked the fuck out of me at that age. Why not just close the damn door. Why have a little boy walk in to see you in all your glory on the throne. It's not necessary and I'm with the other mum.

paige789 · 28/11/2018 19:30

I don't even have a lock on my bathroom so if anyone walks in without knocking it's at their own risk. That women is pathetic

AnastasiaVonBeaverhausen · 28/11/2018 19:31

@Notan Have you ever seen anyone on the loo. Or been yourself and looked down?

greenlanes · 28/11/2018 19:32

I have read the thread. Pleased you spoke to her. SOunds OK now.

But I do agree with other posters about not locking the door with young children around. My mum was babysitting my young toddler. Popped into our cloakroom to use the loo and the lock stopped working. She manged to open the window slightly and speak to neighbours who called the fire brigade. My toddler was quite upset whilst all this was going on. We are in a fairly new house.

Honeyroar · 28/11/2018 19:33

Notan the child was laughing about it - being rude actually, he was hardly traumatised! The anal mother (who wasn't even there!) was the most traumatised! I'm sure the op didn't expect the nosy little kid to burst in, and she's dealt with it as well as she could.

BoooForYou · 28/11/2018 19:33

She's sounds really dangerous
I would text back "may I suggest you teach your DS some manners of not bursting into a room in a home he is a guest in, and then this won't be a constant theme for him"
After that, detach from the loon

DishingOutDone · 28/11/2018 19:36

Notan has indeed warmed to this theme - so OP you can see how the batshitness came about.

I still think you were standing on one leg.

AfterSchoolWorry · 28/11/2018 19:38

Notan the door was closed. Says in the OP 'the door burst open'.

The woman was having an innocent wee in her own home, what are you on about?

I can't use the lock on my toilet door (key is hidden) in case dc lock themselves in.
