The whole active thread list is always taken up by tons of trans bashing threads. How is it acceptable? Anything relating to anyone transgender is bashed. If this was against another minority of people, race, sexuality, religion it would be taken down and reported as hate crime. I don’t understand how the feminism board makes it acceptable?

OP you've answered one of your own questions: As women we are greater risk of physical and sexual violence and verbal harassment from men, so why the obsession with trans?
We are at greater risk of violence from men. Transwomen (more vocal than trans men it seems) are males who identify as women. So we are at greater risk of violence from men, including transwomen. Can't believe it's necessary to spell that out!

RatRolyPoly · 15/11/2018 20:03

Have you scrolled through a dictionary recently Assassinated? It's about as meaningful as any other definition in there.

It is, after all just a dictionary, not an "idiot's guide to everything in existence ever and how all those things relate to each other and what the whole thing really means", because that's a big ask of any book.

OldCrone · 15/11/2018 20:05

That's exactly what you're witnessing on this thread! People are telling you outright that their perception of the social construct of womanhood has changed, and that to them it includes trans women.

Rat do you accept everyone who says they are a woman as a woman? Philip/Pips Bunce on his 'woman' days? David Lewis on Woman Wednesday? Karen White rubbing h** erect penis against a woman prisoner in a woman's prison?

PositivelyPERF · 15/11/2018 20:05

If your feminism isn't intersectional, it's not feminism- it's bigotry.

So you want feminism to stop centring those that it was created for? Women, that is. Seriously? Wise up.

McTufty · 15/11/2018 20:06

Ultimately what you’re saying @ratpolypoly is that to accommodate the gender identity of trans women, the meaning of the word woman has to change.

To change it to your definition is tantamount to saying a woman is anyone who says they are a woman. Which is circular and renders the word basically meaningless when compared to its previous meaning.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 15/11/2018 20:06

Yeah that John Lewis advert, I can't work out if the other actors playing him look that close in real life, or if bits of Elton's face have been digitally added to theirs Oh, captain, I know, the one thing I took from it was how fascinating, so many people who look like Elton. Turns out it’s just prosthetics. Sigh. They’re not real lookylikeys at all.

PositivelyPERF · 15/11/2018 20:07

Must be a terrifying existence to believe everyone is out to get you

You should direct that to the new transwomen. Why are they so convinced that they are unsafe in Male toilets, changing rooms, etc?

PerfPower · 15/11/2018 20:07

I will never accept that a man is a woman because he wears a feminine costume. Nothing anybody says will ever change my mind on that. If that's a 'hate crime' in your book then so be it.

AssassinatedBeauty · 15/11/2018 20:08

I'm not talking about dictionaries, I'm talking about your definition and the issues there are with it. Could you address the point about what puts these two groups into the same category - what do all members of both groups have in common?

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 15/11/2018 20:08

I don't think people actually believe it. People want to be nice, which is an admirable trait, but they know trans women are different to women still. Which might be OK when being nice is all it is.

StopTheHistrionics · 15/11/2018 20:08

This ^. It makes the word meaningless.

Alas, the magic has gone.

That's exactly what you're witnessing on this thread! People are telling you outright that their perception of the social construct of womanhood has changed, and that to them it includes trans women. That's that social construct changing before your very eyes!

I'm not questioning that, and I recognise that some people state that their concept of 'woman' includes people born with, and in many cases retaining, male sexual organs. I haven't denied anywhere, in any single post, that some people include male-bodied individuals within their personal definition of woman. I don't know why you think I have.

The post you quoted was questioning your assertion that words change all by themselves. Which is, of course, a ludicrous idea.

McTufty · 15/11/2018 20:11

judas

Now that John Lewis advert is a hate crime Grin

EarlyWalker · 15/11/2018 20:12

Judashascomeintosomemoney the inspirational woman one was actually trans related. I commented happily and actually thought to myself ‘oh yes finally! Non trans celebrating woman stuff!’ Nope wrong unfortunately , it was a dig at comic relief for listing a transwoman as an inspirational woman.

TwistedStitch · 15/11/2018 20:14

Nothing to do with trans actually EarlyWalker.

"You should direct that to the new transwomen. Why are they so convinced that they are unsafe in Male toilets, changing rooms, etc?"

I can speak from my own position as gender dysphoria trans woman.

I chose to use disabled toilets (which by the way I have a blue badge and no it's not from being transsexual!) rather than male toilets. I feel unsafe in male toilets because due to hormone intervention I have breasts. My appearance is that of female due to body fat redistribution from hormones. I am repeatedly sexualised and treated like a fetish. I receive dick pics from strangers via Facebook.

However prior to hormone intervention I accept an argument a bloke in women's clothes is not unsafe and therefore should use male toilets.

Just out of curiosity....how would people feel about a definition of woman to include those who had sustained levels of Oestrogen and Testosterone that was equivelant to a natal female ? That includes those with gender dysphoria undergoing treatment but excludes cross dressers etc and those who self identify.

EarlyWalker · 15/11/2018 20:19

Oh sorry I thought you meant this one. Didn’t realise there were two running! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3424606-inspirational-women-list

WereFox · 15/11/2018 20:19

I am angry that Shon Faye - a prominent trans activist has said ‘Women - enjoy your erasure’.

That's a misquote. She said it to one apparent transphobe, but I appreciate that that little propaganda nugget's gone way beyond facts now.

To think mumsnet is full of hate crime?
Hohocabbage · 15/11/2018 20:22

Why I should it not be ok to have women and transwomen? Why does "woman" have to expand to include others instead of a separate, respected and with full rights category called transwoman?

NicoAndTheNiners · 15/11/2018 20:22

So it’s the fear that a man could pretend to be trans in order to attack women or girls? Which must be such a small minority of people. And also not truly transgender if their sole motivation is to use it as a cover.

Gosh OP, that's a very transphobic thing to say. Tut tut. How dare you question someone's transgenderism.

Hohocabbage · 15/11/2018 20:25

Werefox I don't think that tweet helps your case as much as you think it does!

Aeroflotgirl · 15/11/2018 20:31

Riiiight so just because you say that you are a woman and the law says you are you therefore must be, despite your meat and two veg dangling down. Right the women have a penis brigade have spoken.
