Butter on bread?

1400spincycle · 10/11/2018 15:35

A light hearted one to solve a long running silly dispute between me and DP.

I like buttered bread. So do the kids. I butter toast, toasted teacakes, use it in sandwiches etc. DH maintains that this habit is disgusting, revolting and a strange abberation. He claims that lots of people hate butter with a passion and that I am the unusual person. (I am struggling to think of a single other person who feels as strongly on this topic)

So Mumsenet. What the verdict?

Who hates butter?!?! Does he eat dry toast? You would not be unreasonable to LTB

sakura06 · 10/11/2018 15:38

I genuinely know no one who hates butter. Even my brothers, who are vegan, use olive or sunflower spread.

Heartofglass12345 · 10/11/2018 15:38

My husband and 2 of my friends don't like butter but they understand other people do lol

Stephisaur · 10/11/2018 15:39

HIBU - LTB.

Buttered toast is food of the gods.

MemoryOfSleep · 10/11/2018 15:39

Ooh, love butter. Does he have crumpets dry then? Shock

BusterTheBulldog · 10/11/2018 15:40

I do. It know how you’ve stayed married to him to be honest op.

You are of course not being unreasonable. A life without butter? Unthinkable.

vampirethriller · 10/11/2018 15:40

I don't know anyone who doesn't like butter. I love it, thicker the better!

Blanchedupetitpois · 10/11/2018 15:40

Bread is literally just a vehicle to funnel butter into the mouth imo.

jaseyraex · 10/11/2018 15:40

What the fuck does he have on toast/sandwiches then?! Honestly, I'd LTB.

TurkeyBear · 10/11/2018 15:40

Who doesn't like butter 😯

IWantChocolates · 10/11/2018 15:41

Are you including margarine? Because I couldn't have real butter in a sandwich - too rich - but couldn't have it without sunflower spread.

StoorieHoose · 10/11/2018 15:41

My dd hates butter on sarnies but happy to have butter on toast. She’s weird.

icelolly99 · 10/11/2018 15:42

I love butter but I won't have it under another soft topping; marmite, jam, peanut butter, mayo etc

bruise · 10/11/2018 15:42

Butter me up baby!

ReadMyLipss · 10/11/2018 15:42

Who doesn't put butter on toast or a toasted teacake. Wouldn't they be very very dry?

I personally don't like the taste of unmelted butter, but if it melts on hot toast then I adore it.

He is very very very odd to think his is the majority opinion!

Howhot · 10/11/2018 15:44

I love butter but never in a sandwich. It makes it slippy and slimy...

redsummershoes · 10/11/2018 15:45

he is bu
butter is the food of the goods.
from potato to fish to cake to bread: each is better with a blob of butter

Brazenhussy0 · 10/11/2018 15:46

There is nothing more indulgent and heavenly to the senses than a toasted crumpet dripping in melted butter.

Is your DP one of those weirdos who puts only jam on his dry toast?

ILoveAutum · 10/11/2018 15:46

Some people hate butter, but they’re the minority.

He’s a twat.

Rainsandrains · 10/11/2018 15:46

What does he spread on his toast?! Buttered toast is food of the gods! So simple but delicious.

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 10/11/2018 15:47

Aren’t crumpets just a delivery method for large amounts of melted butter?

IHaveBrilloHair · 10/11/2018 15:48

Butter is amazing.
I sometimes have so much I actually slice it onto my toast.

cherrytree63 · 10/11/2018 15:49

Is he on glue?!!!
Chip butty with all that yummy melted butter running down my chin..
Slices of unsalted butter on fresh bread...
Crumpets, muffins, tea cakes, Soreen would be naked without butter.
Buttered cream crackers with lime pickle StarStarStarStarGrin

What??? HIBVVVU

Unless he means he likes some bread with his butter

So does he have dry toast? WhyShock

PenCreed · 10/11/2018 15:49

DH doesn’t put butter on toast or in sandwiches. He recognises that he’s the weird one though. Butter is amazing, especially salty butter on good bread.
