To think not having a way to play music in your house is weird?

Had a playdate with someone recently, got talking about how my ds loves to dance to the moana soundtrack and my friend said "ah that's nice, we don't have any way to play music except through the telly or on my phone"

Surely this is all kinds of wrong. Everyone should have some kind of sound system surely?

It's not cos they can't afford one btw they're just not bothered.

We could. We dont. Well, we have a little digital radio in the kitchen.

Why should we?

MongerTruffle · 06/11/2018 21:45

When we have smartphones, smart TVs, Bluetooth speakers etc, why would you need to have a dedicated system?

Bambamber · 06/11/2018 21:46

Why? We don't listen to much music, normally just stick on the radio app on the tv in the morning and that's it. Why would we bother with a sound system if we aren't bothered about music?

ghostbox · 06/11/2018 21:46

Cos music from a phone sounds tinny & quiet and awful.

I’m the same, my radio packed in and I never replaced it. I play the radio on the tv or Spotify on my phone now and haven’t purchased a CD for 5-10 years.

ghostbox · 06/11/2018 21:46

Oh right I guess I'm weirded out by people who aren't bothered by music then

aldgadgie · 06/11/2018 21:47

Nope, no sound system just Alexa that we play music through if needs be. Not very often we have music on, more likely radio 4.

ghostbox · 06/11/2018 21:48

Ok but Alexa is a decent speaker. Maybe I should've said "speaker" rather than sound system

OhTheRoses · 06/11/2018 21:49

I thought you meant a piano.

Nesssie · 06/11/2018 21:49

I have the tv, my phone and a tiny Bluetooth speaker. No other way and I’ve never felt like I was missing out.

BeardedMum · 06/11/2018 21:50

I never listen to music except sometimes in the car. I need silence.

GrumpyOldMare · 06/11/2018 21:50

I don't have a ''sound system''.
I do have a pc and an Alexa. A tv and a phone. All capable of playing music.

ghostbox · 06/11/2018 21:50

What about when you have guests over for a party or dinner or whatever? Don't you play music?

Can play music through the tv. We don’t have a stereo or radio or anything like that.

PhilODox · 06/11/2018 21:51

I'm with you- seems alien to me not to listen to music all the time

Ohyesiam · 06/11/2018 21:51

I can’t imagine living without music. Although I’m a big fan of silence too.

ShinyMe · 06/11/2018 21:51

Now you mention it, I don't have a way to play music other than the telly or my phone. I had a cd player, but it stopped working and I ditched it maybe 3 or 4 years ago. I have lots of cds, but I only ever play them in the car. I very occasionally listen to music on my phone or laptop in the house, but it's rare. I'm far more likely to have the telly on, or play an audio book if I'm in bed. I listen to music in the car, and sometimes on my phone if I'm out walking.

SputnikBear · 06/11/2018 21:51

We have a Sonos speaker but that’s all. And we only got that recently - prior to that we’d just play music through the tv or computer.

GoopWrithing · 06/11/2018 21:52

I listen through my PC (with good headphones, although not particularly bought for music purposes) at home, or with my phone when I'm out. No need for any special equipment.

ghostbox · 06/11/2018 21:53

Well a sonos is a speaker. As is an Alexa.

I think I worded it wrong when I said "sound system".

Donthugmeimscared · 06/11/2018 21:53

You would be horrified at me. My car radio doesn't work so I put my phone on loud in the little compartment in the front that makes it sound a bit louder. At home we only have an alexa and phones.

No music here.

Silence is golden.

confusedandemployed · 06/11/2018 21:54

I have a Bluetooth speaker but I really miss a proper sound system. OP YANBU.
