AIBU and overly sensitive or is that fecking rude?

For context - this is someone I met at baby groups years ago (our kids are now mid/late teens), lost touch when they started different schools and occasionally bumped into one another out shopping etc. I recently saw her and invited her back for coffee and a catch up at mine, which took place yesterday.

The first thing she said was "oh my goodness ... you still have the same bathroom, that's hilarious" (bathroom by front door). I had forgotten she was such a rude cow .... things have started coming back to me since our coffee ..... I remember sitting in our garden with several baby group mums, kids in paddling pool, all lovely and she came out with the cracker "I so wish I had a tiny garden and house like this, so much easier to maintain".

I remember now why we lost touch.

FiL also does this, but MiL is a gem and slaps him down every time.

I have another friend who is like this not just about houses, but about everything.

I recently lost 4st and though I still have another three to go, I'm feeling great and obviously fielding lots of positive comments. You can just see that she CAN'T bring herself to congratulate someone still overweight, or feels like she should be complimented, just for being her.

Funny thing is, when she is genuinely envious of someone, she will say so! She loves our house. It was naicely done up by the previous owners. So she gushed about our kitchen, bathroom etc.

I only understood her about 3 years after we met when I met her sister. THAT explained all the jealousy! I know it's cliche, but I feel sorry for her to have grown up with that sort of dynamic. My sister is stunning, but we've never compared each other and our lives.

The „tiny house and garden“ comment would be fine for me - we have a tiny house and garden because its less work. no need to pretend its a castle. the bathroom comment though ...

My upstairs bathroom is the original from when the house was built in 1971! The bath is a fetching shade of pale turquoise...
I am finally getting it replaced 47 years later, but only because the bath surface is needing a second re-enamelling and the cistern has cracked. I doubt the new one will last 47 years, but I won’t be around to care! And heaven knows what your rude judgmental “friend” would make of it!

If you fancy a giggle, Google the Mitchell and Webb Avocado bathroom sketch!
Gardengirl33, that sketch is so funny it had me in tears. Brilliant 🤣
