AIBU and overly sensitive or is that fecking rude?

For context - this is someone I met at baby groups years ago (our kids are now mid/late teens), lost touch when they started different schools and occasionally bumped into one another out shopping etc. I recently saw her and invited her back for coffee and a catch up at mine, which took place yesterday.

The first thing she said was "oh my goodness ... you still have the same bathroom, that's hilarious" (bathroom by front door). I had forgotten she was such a rude cow .... things have started coming back to me since our coffee ..... I remember sitting in our garden with several baby group mums, kids in paddling pool, all lovely and she came out with the cracker "I so wish I had a tiny garden and house like this, so much easier to maintain".

I remember now why we lost touch.

We're in the middle of having a bathroom makeover. Back to brickwork etc. This bathroom will be the last we ever do as costing an absolute fortune.

KatKit16 · 04/11/2018 08:43

I bet she doesn't have any friends and will end up old & lonely. Either call her on her rudeness or don't see her again.....or both!!

WhiteDust · 04/11/2018 09:16

Expresso
I want the blue one... or the pink... or the duck egg. They are lovely!
Several companies specialise in coloured suites & stock all colours.

WhiteDust · 04/11/2018 09:21

I've just remembered my Mum's friend's bathroom suite. It is baby pink -1960s I think. She's had a new shower/ flooring etc over the years but the tiles & suite are original. It is gorgeous! ❤️

TeacupDrama · 04/11/2018 09:25

Aventurine
we also have original kitchen too, will try and post pics later
in fact when the double glazing PVC windows people ring I always ask will your windows last longer than the ones I have, they start on their spiel about how they are so much better and can offer 15-25 year guarantee, then I reply when the 130 year old wooden ones need replacing I would be looking for similar !!! surprisngly this is normally when they put the phone down, why could they make windows then that last 130 years but now 30 years seems to be impossible???

Aventurine · 04/11/2018 09:29

Bet your house is lovely. I saw an article recently about a couple who had never changed their kitchen since the 50s and a lot of the appliances were either still in working order or had only recently stopped functioning. Washing machines don't last that long nowadays!

beanaseireann · 04/11/2018 10:15

I wouldn't have a second meet up with that woman. Life's too short to put up with insufferable people.

VintageScarfLady · 04/11/2018 11:37

Rude cah!

My mum only recently replaced her 80s bathroom suite - pale grey it was. She’s left the (still immaculate) white and grey stripy tiles though and just added a white suite and it looks quite trendy now! I guess pale grey quite a boring colour for that time period, when you see the pinks and turquoises and pale yellows

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 04/11/2018 12:02

I'm enjoying this walk down bathroom fitments memory lane, and 'who has got the oldest bathroom fitments' tennis!

Our house was built pre-bathrooms. I'm not sure the OP's visitor would have enjoyed her ablutions using a copper bath and chamber pot, bless her. And then the donkey and cart, coming to take away 'the soils'.

NewMinouMinou · 04/11/2018 13:06

Oh wow, Teacup!

So, if your bathroom doesn’t manage to outlive you, will you donate the fittings to a museum?

Lepetitpiggy · 04/11/2018 13:10

I'd have laughed. We still have the same kitchen and bathroom that was here when we moved in 20 years ago. Basically they do what they are supposed to and that's that - although the kitchen is getting a bit 'tired' - we may do something in a year or so :D Same with tumble dryers and dishwashers - never had, never really wanted. When people look horrified or sorry for us, I sort of shrug and get on with my life

TeacupDrama · 04/11/2018 17:24

the buildings listed I would imagine they would stay with the house

TeacupDrama · 04/11/2018 17:36

original victorian shower still works sorry a bit blurry 2nd photo shows controls unfortunately someone tried to improve in 1970's with addition of burgundy gloss we are in process of reversing this
final photo original hall tiles

original kitchen cupboards just need oiling every now and then, also see how hall has been "enhanced by olive green painted woodchip" Angry

but I am leaving tackling that until Spring as will need to scaffold to reach the woodchip on ceiling above stairs

Oh my God, I want your house Teacup. Especially the tiles. And that shower must have been SO modern in it's day!

Aventurine · 04/11/2018 19:02

That's fab teacup. It would give op's friend a conniption though!

TeacupDrama · 04/11/2018 19:07

just imagine the OP's friend she would spontaneously combust imagine ( a bit TAAT) how many people would have used the toilet!!!!!

Racecardriver · 04/11/2018 19:08

It’s really weird that she thinks that’s weird. Unless it was some cheap plastic set that would need replacing after five years it would be strange to care enough to replace it surely? It’s a bathroom ffs.

TidyLike · 04/11/2018 19:16

Since she was by the front door anyway, you should have shoved her back out and slammed the door 🚮

Deidre21 · 04/11/2018 22:27

Rude cow. People who feel the need to go out of their way to make scarcastoc rude comments and laugh have issues. They’re usually jealous of something you have or just of you and feel the need to belittle something about you to make themselves feel good or better. Ignore her.

Deidre21 · 04/11/2018 22:28

Sarcastic not scartostoc

Cornishclio · 04/11/2018 22:41

Our bathroom is 20 years old and still looks and works fine. Too late for a good retort now but mine would have been - goodness you are still rude. How hilarious.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 06/11/2018 08:18

That's an interesting point some of you have made about who remembers this sort of stuff ..... I've been trying really hard to picture her bathroom in my head in her old house ...... nope I've got no idea what it was like.

Wonder why the interest in mine! I think she secretly loves it but feels pressured to be up to date with everything Smile
