It's the first day of my period and I'm in a fair bit of pain. Feeling a bit sorry for myself and just fancy a sparkling lemon flavoured water from Tesco. Asked DP 10 mins ago if he would go get me one and he categorically said no. I know it's late but aibu to ask. I am on the verge of tears and just would love a "treat"

Mine would. He's the best.

ItsAllNew01 · 28/10/2018 22:59

Mumsnet never fails to amaze me how the majority opinions change and contradict thread to thread. If a man asked at 10pm for his wife to go get him a flavoured water cause he felt mildly unwell, he'd be told to do one!

MistressoftheYoniverse · 28/10/2018 23:01

Mine would ...and I would do the same for him

ItsASunnyDay · 28/10/2018 23:02

No, mine wouldn't. Rightly so. And I wouldn't ask. He would go and get nurofen, or sanitary supplies etc if we had none in the house though. I think you're being a bit silly. Have a nurofen and a hot bath and have a word with yourself! Hope you feel better

catpooproblems · 28/10/2018 23:03

I honestly don’t think I’d expect him to.

He is quite unromantic but after both my sections he has been brilliant and very very practical. However, asking him at 22:15 to go for flavoured water because of period pain? I don’t think his helpfulness would stretch that far

huggybear · 28/10/2018 23:03

I would definitely nip to the shop if he was in a lot of pain and I could help him even a little. Why wouldn't you if you could?

PodgeBod · 28/10/2018 23:04

Mine would, but I wouldn't ask. Especially not for water.

Leder · 28/10/2018 23:04

Google maps says it's 3 minutes away in fact.

Okay, I knew I was being unreasonable to ask. Like I said I'm down in the dumps and just fancied a pick me after a cramp day.

THE BASTARD!!!!

Sorry Im taking the piss.

Bitchbe · 28/10/2018 23:05

'WhyAmISoCold

Clearly, any posting have no idea what period pain can be.'

WhyAmISoCold
I had endometriosis, dysmenorrhoea, ovarian cysts and pain so bad I would vomit. I ended up having an hysterectomy at 22 and full menopause so of course I understand the pain level.
I still wouldn't ask my other half if I had one to go out and get fizzy water at this time of night and be hurt if they didn't.
Painkillers and pads yes of course.

wildewillow · 28/10/2018 23:05

I wouldn't ask, my dh would say no anyway. And I would say no if he asked me too. Crazy time of night to nip to the shop for a 'treat'.

RockinHippy · 28/10/2018 23:05

Going to the shops this late (even just for one thing) may be a big thing in other households but we seem to do it fairly regularly. It's a bit hurtful that he knows this will make me feel better but still chooses not to g

Flip that Leder. Your DP may well feel just as hurt that you are still whining at him to go to the shop for you. You are being selfish by asking him when he's already said no. Instead of feeling hurt that he won't go this time. How about being grateful for all of the times he has gone to the shop for you & let it rest

Tailfeather · 28/10/2018 23:05

Mine would....but probably begrudgingly!

thegreylady · 28/10/2018 23:06

Yes without hesitation. When I was having chemotherapy I couldn’t really eat at all until one tight I woke up at 3am fancying egg and chips. He got up, peeled spuds and cooked it for me. He was 70 years old at the time, what a star.

AiryFairyUnicornRainbow · 28/10/2018 23:06

WOAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH BODY FORMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

BODY FORM FOR YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Hey OP, any reason you cannot walk those three minutes? You seen the adverts, women can sky dive, ride horses and all sorts, whilst the on our period

It is a revolution

Im off to buy a parachute right now

thegreylady · 28/10/2018 23:06

night not tight

Leder · 28/10/2018 23:07

I'm not badgering him, I've let it go.

pallisers · 28/10/2018 23:09

Mine would do pretty much anything I asked him to do tbh. I don't ask much but if I did, he'd do it. I married a very very kind man. Kindness is a very underrated virtue imo.

TheDowagerCuntess · 28/10/2018 23:09

Mine probably would, but flipping it over, I'd be downright annoyed to be asked and expected to go myself.

So - I wouldn't put him in the position of asking, given I wouldn't want to do it myself.

ReanimatedSGB · 28/10/2018 23:09

Hmm. I would just never be in such a situation. (Well I definitely won't now as I am too old for periods). But whether YABU or not depends - do you and your DP frequently indulge one another's whims? Would you be willing to go out in the cold and the rain to get him something he wanted but didn't need ? Do you often ask him to pamper you?

Bitchbe · 28/10/2018 23:10

Thegreylady I think that's different . I would go out for food or a nice drink for someone not eating or drinking cause of chemo to be fair

LoniceraJaponica · 28/10/2018 23:11

No, because it's Sunday, and Tesco closes at 4.

Pebblespony · 28/10/2018 23:11

I'm pregnant and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't go for me.

duckthisshit · 28/10/2018 23:12

You're being a brat.

sizzledrizz · 28/10/2018 23:12

I wouldn't ask, tbh. But we don't live together. He has come round and cooked dinner for me before when I've had a very bad cold. But I was seeing him that night anyway.
