That a male just won a women’s cycling World Championship?

Can’t really get my mind round this tbh though i was aware of another male Laurel Hubbard taking medals in the Women’s Weight Lifting World Championships earlier this year. Are we really ready for males winning the Women’s Wimbledon Title and the women’s Olympic 100m Final?

Sport is never fair. You can say its under 11, but there is always one kid that's already through puberty and twice the size of the others.

You can say its a women's race, but there will be several people at the front that have bizarrely high T and massive lung capacity due to their DNA make up.

No one is owed a living in sport. You have to be incredibly lucky to be able to consider it. I can't get very excited about which particular set of genetic freaks are currently able to monitize their freakishness.

I don't 'feel sorry' for someone because they are only second most genetically out of the bell curve at any given moment in time. The whole thing is nonsense.

The overwhelming majority of sport is done by people with no hope in hell of becoming pro. For all those people the fairness of the top level sport is totally irrelevant. I've played on women's teams and men's teams its no big deal at the grass roots. I'm not going to stop playing sport because the people winning the women's medals look different than they used to. They never looked anything like me anyway! I'm not going to tell my DD to stop playing sports because she'll never make it to the top level either. Again that was already true from birth regardless of where the TW issue eventually lands.

I do believe sport should be XX and XY because nothing else makes sense. But I also can't get worked up about this issue as it affects almost no one, and those it does affect only ever had luck/timing to thank for their privilege in the first place.

When my nan died she said she was glad to go ,because she didn't recognise this world anymore....I can totally understand that ..I don't understand why people are allowing men to pretend to be women...because they can? Because it's a power trip? Because they are fucked up ? Or because they are mentally ill? ...

Soubriquet · 15/10/2018 16:07

Shows how much of a coward he is

He knows he can’t win as a man, yet as a woman, he has the advantage and almost guaranteed to win

stillathing · 15/10/2018 16:07

it is true that sport is not fair. however many people do see a value in competing against each other (or being a spectator) and they see that value in events as lowly as school football, parkrun, after work netball, as well as in top level sports.

sport is not only about who is fastest, who is strongest. as a society we see a value in boxing at different weight categories; paralympic sports; all the many many leagues of football; and, until recently, women's sport.

Helmetbymidnight · 15/10/2018 16:08

Imagine being a man and you get off on beating women in sport.

It’s so weird. Imagine defending that man and thinking it’s great or unimportant.

Jaxhog · 15/10/2018 16:09

Ugh. He isn't a woman, he's a cheat.

AlmaGeddon · 15/10/2018 16:09

Email to your MP -isn't it tomorrow that Penny Mordaunt mp is deciding on the gender identification bill , she is MInister for women's rights or similar, what a farce!

SirVixofVixHall · 15/10/2018 16:09

The fucker is crowding away on twitter . GRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrr

Elephantinacravat · 15/10/2018 16:10

Imagine being a man and you get off on beating women in sport.

I know. What kind of bloke is OK with cheating women out of a place in sport?

Helmetbymidnight · 15/10/2018 16:10

What did you mean about the cooties then? Do you think peoples concern is about cooties?

Fearandsurprise · 15/10/2018 16:11

I am so glad that my rugby playing “career” is over so I don’t have to risk serious injury playing against a male born person.

Allowing transwomen to compete against women is going to kill women’s sports. All the benefits of playing sport, including physical and mental health, will be lost to girls and women. That will be a cost to society in the long term.

M3lon · 15/10/2018 16:11

another XXY is quite common....conveys early developmental benefits.

There is also mosaicism where people will have some cells with XX and some with XY.

Its irrelevant to the sport question though, because if you are going to make an arbitrary line then it is always going to disadvantage someone. So the fact going XX disadvantages some people is inevitable.

MonsterSister · 15/10/2018 16:11

also can't get worked up about this issue as it affects almost no one

It affected the silver and bronze winners in this case, and the fourth-placed entrant.

Refusing to allow opposite-sex entrants into single-sex races would affect almost no one, true. Maybe we should do that, thus affecting just McKinnon.

Jaxhog · 15/10/2018 16:12

Of course sport isn't fair. But if we believe this is the end of it, then why have women's sports at all? If we support women's sport, then we should restrict it to actual women i.e. those who have female dna.

If transwomen want to compete in sport, then they should accept that they don't qualify for women's sports, even though they are at a disadvantage in men's sports. Or compete against each other.

DancingForTheDog · 15/10/2018 16:13

Welcome to the future of women's sport. Funnily enough I was talking to DH about this at the weekend. Give it 10 years, most 'Women's' sporting event will be dominated by competitors with XY chromosomes who have the advantage of male physiology and years of testosterone surging around their system.

OlennasWimple · 15/10/2018 16:13

Cheat, cheat, cheat

And shame on any organisation that colludes in the demise of women's sport

Helmetbymidnight · 15/10/2018 16:13

I am so glad that my rugby playing “career” is over so I don’t have to risk serious injury playing against a male born person

But as m3lon says, it’s fine hun, you won’t catch cooties honestly.

M3lon · 15/10/2018 16:14

helmet I just mean that the way someone identifies shouldn't create an issue with who they compete against. To XY bodied people can compete against each other even if one of them identifies as female. Equally two XX bodied people can compete against each other even if one of them identifies as male.

There might well be a problem in a boxing match between XX and XY, but not between XY and XY (identifying as female).

M3lon · 15/10/2018 16:14

helmet I think you need to read my post rather than assuming what it says.

PietariKontio · 15/10/2018 16:14

They and a friend mocked women's concerns on Twitter.
So I replied:

Nice mocking of women? Do you deny your dna and biology have given you advantages that biological women’s dna and biology have denied them? How you feel about your gender doesn’t level the playing field. How you feel about your gender doesn’t change you sex. #hollowvictory"

To my surprise they then had a nuanced debate about the ethics of trans women competing in women's.

Like f did they. I was, of course, blocked.

Aeroflotgirl · 15/10/2018 16:14

As a Transwoman with a male body, he has an unfair advantage over biological women. This is not on, I think will put women off sport.

Rudgie47 · 15/10/2018 16:14

Nees to be racing in the mens race.
Phillipa York who used to be Robert Millar raced in the Tour De France in the mens race.

FermatsTheorem · 15/10/2018 16:16

Kleinfelters - multiple X chromosomes plus a Y chromosome - does not convey early developmental advantage. At best it is fairly neutral, at worst it causes global developmental delay akin to Down's syndrome or sometimes more severe (I have friends with a child with Kleinfelters). I am not sure you know what you're talking about, M3lon.

Aeroflotgirl · 15/10/2018 16:16

This should absolutely not be allowed, it is so unfair.

Elephantinacravat · 15/10/2018 16:18

So M3lon your argument is that this affects hardly anyone, and sport is unfair anyway.

Meanwhile, men's sports are totally unaffected and they are just able to carry on as they always were.
