Can’t really get my mind round this tbh though i was aware of another male Laurel Hubbard taking medals in the Women’s Weight Lifting World Championships earlier this year. Are we really ready for males winning the Women’s Wimbledon Title and the women’s Olympic 100m Final?

Just biological sex would be enough. It’s gender that allowed this to happen.

They ‘live as a woman’ - what does that mean? I can just say that I live as an aardvark or a 3 toed sloth then?

FekkoTheLawyer · 15/10/2018 15:41

Gender, schmender.

PositiveVibez · 15/10/2018 15:42

Fucking hell. It's absolutely preposterous.

I am fuming.

PEAK PEAK PEAK

FermatsTheorem · 15/10/2018 15:42

It's not just the top levels of sport which will be shafted - this will go all the way down. I know several small girls who play rugby (same club as my son) and they are going to grow up in a world where even in the amateur game, they could find themselves facing someone nearly a foot taller, with male musculature and strength, in the scrum.

Would you put your spinal column at that level of risk? I wouldn't. Yet these are promising girls who really play the game well, and they're going to have to choose between their personal safety and the game they love.

What a cheat, I feel for the poor women who were robbed of their rightful places on the podium.

AnotherCareerThread · 15/10/2018 15:42

How can anyone in their right mind defend this?!

This person has a MALE BODY.

Whether or not they have a male or female mind/soul/gender/whatever is debateable but the point is that the BODY is MALE.

Male bodies are typically stronger than female bodies. This isn't an opinion, this isn't a debate, it's bloody SCIENCE.

If I decide that I am mentally a horse, does that mean I can start competing in show jumping?

M3lon · 15/10/2018 15:43

user actually I think the opposite is true. It is already impossible to tell what level of competition you will face. eg. You might have been the best sprinter in the world 10 years ago...but oops you ended up lining up against Usain Bolt!

What will actually happen is it will become incredibly easy for women to decide NOT to become professional sportswomen, because they already know they are not going to make it to the top.

sexnotgender · 15/10/2018 15:43

They had no shame in boasting about it on Twitter.
No and as someone who is purportedly an ethics lecturer the mind boggles.

FekkoTheLawyer · 15/10/2018 15:44

Well, you have to admire their brass, erm, neck.

NKFell · 15/10/2018 15:45

I hate this. It's so unfair that it boils my blood.

ImPreCis · 15/10/2018 15:48

Actually I don’t think that women will have to be proactive about their boycott, they will simply be pushed out.
In some States in America boys are taking the top 5 spaces in under 18 girls running events, with times that would only put them in the top 200 in the male equivalent race.
Who was it that said ‘women enjoy your erasure’?

DingDongDenny · 15/10/2018 15:48

Isn't it interesting that there has been no corresponding female to male trans people competing at high levels of sport with men

I wonder why.........

M3lon · 15/10/2018 15:48

sport isn't fair though!

I mean I could train every hour of every day and I could never get on that podium. The second and third placed women would beat me hands down no contest.

There are many reasons to go a different way on trans in sport, but 'its not fair' is a non-starter in an area where everyone succeeding at a high level has a freaky genetic advantage of one sort or another.

BonfiresOfInsanity · 15/10/2018 15:50

It doesn't matter that they take drugs to reduce testosterone, their body has had all the benefit of growing as a testosterone filled male, with stronger and bigger muscles, different hip structure, larger lungs etc. etc. And I have no doubt that even with reduced testoerone it is still 3 times as high as a born female athlete.

WokerThanWoke · 15/10/2018 15:51

3 pages in and still waiting for the "you're transphobic bigots" to start... don't let us down now!

HumphreyCobblers · 15/10/2018 15:52

Cheat. Fucking obnoxious cheat.

This is the end of competitive sport for women and girls. It was the IOC ruling about men pretending to be women so they could cheat and win in the Olympics that peaked me. It never fails to amaze me how they continue to do this and those around just collude with them.

Those poor women in silver and bronze, plus the one who came fourth who should have been placed.

Elephantinacravat · 15/10/2018 15:53

Waiting for the 'you are such transphobic bigots' ploppers to make an appearance....

Helmetbymidnight · 15/10/2018 15:53

M3lon, so you don’t believe there should be any women’s sport at all? - because that’s the natural extension of what you’re saying.

BiologyIsReal · 15/10/2018 15:53

I can see why female competitors daren't risk rebelling but sporting events have spectators and there is no reason why they can't have banners objecting to a trans winner, boo them off the podium, chant cheat cheat etc.

Show their support for real women.

ForTheTimeBeing · 15/10/2018 15:53

How can this be happening? What can we do about it?

Elephantinacravat · 15/10/2018 15:53

Oh cross posted with Woker! They are not here yet anyway!

Genevieva · 15/10/2018 15:54

We need single sex sporting competitions, not single gender ones, otherwise there will be no women medalists before long.

tenbob · 15/10/2018 15:54

M3lon
So by that logic, do away with separate classes for men and women and have everyone compete together

Either we recognise that male and female bodies are different, and those differences confer physical attributes that give sporting advantage or disadvantage and so should be separated in competition, or we don't
