Can’t really get my mind round this tbh though i was aware of another male Laurel Hubbard taking medals in the Women’s Weight Lifting World Championships earlier this year. Are we really ready for males winning the Women’s Wimbledon Title and the women’s Olympic 100m Final?

Has anyone said there would be an issue if women played women and men played men? Er no.

user1471426142 · 15/10/2018 16:18

M3lon I agree - I think you wrote what I was trying to get across but badly. There’s always been the eras of amazing athletes that others can’t touch and that is luck of the draw. But knowing you could face the amazing + people that will always be biologically stronger must be very demoralising.

Ta1kinpeace · 15/10/2018 16:20

This is frankly just sexism.
Blokes finding new ways to put down uppity women.

Why would girls want to get good at a sport when they know that the medals and records will soon all be held by men?

Helmetbymidnight · 15/10/2018 16:21

People really hate women.

‘Oh it’s only a few of them- doesn’t affect me’ - incredible.

M3lon · 15/10/2018 16:21

Is that not the one that means children are bigger and more coordinated in the first year? There definitely is one - I may have mixed them up. There was a boy in my antenatal group with a chromosonal abnormality and he was running and climbing slides before he was 1 while the rest were still struggling to get on their feet. Apparently all the boys in his extended family were the same.

Not that it matters here. As I said XX is the only category it makes sense to differentiate.

Well done to Carolien Van Herrikhuyzen of the Netherlands and American cyclist Jennifer Wagner for your excellent efforts. You are both worthy medal winners.

men's sport is also manifestly unfair.

You could be brilliant and train your heart out..but then theirs Usain Bolt...so you may as well give up.

I think what will damage women's sport is people banging on about how pointless it all is because someone came second when they should have been first.

It really really doesn't matter. Keep encouraging girls to do sport! The reasons for girls to do sport was never so they could win olympic gold. It was for their health and their enjoyment.

olderthanyouthink · 15/10/2018 16:26

I think I peak trans-ed my dad with this this morning, that or I put the idea into his head to run races as a woman to get a better ranking... pretty sure it's the former.

littlbrowndog · 15/10/2018 16:26

But they won’t if they have to play their sport like rugby and football against bigger stronger guys
They just wont

Badmoonsarising · 15/10/2018 16:27

"Focusing on performance advantage is largely irrelevant because this is a rights issue", says McKinnon.

McKinnon is openly goading women.

No, having men compete in women’s sport and having men wins women’s prizes is far more damaging.

No, it does matter. my dd enjoys winning. Why should boys and men be allowed to play and beat her? Such a weird attitude.

M3lon · 15/10/2018 16:30

helmet I was trying to point out that there is no dignity lost by a female identifying XY bodied person competing in the XY competition. The whole 'should be able to compete with their identified gender' only holds as an argument if you think there is a problem with someone who identifies as female competiting against someone who doesn't. But there isn't. No dignity lost - no cooties.

You seem to have decided (presumably because I'm not tearing my hair out with grief for the future of girls sport) that I am in favour of the current situation. I am not.

I don;t think people should be forced to take drugs, I don't think XY bodied people should compete against XX bodied people.

If you calmed down a bit you might be able to see the actual words through the red haze.

Elephantinacravat · 15/10/2018 16:30

That is just the absolute crappest argument ever.

Are you advocating an end to sex segregated sports then?

ShotsFired · 15/10/2018 16:30

MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNER: Carolien Van Herrikhuyzen (who incidentally had to take a drugs test after the event!)

To everyone (rightly)outraged by this, please take less time than you need to drink a cup of tea and fill in the consultation to protest against this sort of thing being made even easier: fairplayforwomen.com/email/

So basically you don't think girls are worthy winners Hmm

KatherinaMinola · 15/10/2018 16:31

Isn't A Woman's Place meeting with MPs in the House of Commons tomorrow? Well, they've got this and Karen White to keep them busy.

If those two things don't peak-trans the MPs then nothing will.

Helmetbymidnight · 15/10/2018 16:32

I’m reading your words. I disagree with what you’re saying.

M3lon · 15/10/2018 16:32

I enjoy winning as does DD, but we aren't physically gifted...so what? I should quit? She should quit?

No, we just find our level. That might be against mediocre women, it might be against beginner men. Who gives a crap?

Fearandsurprise · 15/10/2018 16:32

M3lon I think it will put women off sport. It’s not just about what is happening at the top level.

In many team sports, even at beginners level, the team size for even a friendly match is limited. So, if you have 15 places on a women’s team and even one of those places is taken by a male born person, one woman has lost her chance to participate. There are often fewer women’s teams than men’s, too. The male born person could join a men’s team. So how is that fair to women?

A male bodied person being on the team may pose a physical safety risk, and not just in contact sports. Many women and parents of girls may choose not to participate.

And there are women of particular faiths, some cared for girls and traumatised women, who cannot share changing rooms or have physical contact (which occurs in many sports) with male born people. These are often from marginalised groups, for whom sport offers a way to integrate into society. They will stop participating.

I’m glad you and your daughters will carry on despite these things, but many others won’t have that option.

Nospellingsnomore · 15/10/2018 16:32

If you want to object to men in women's sports go to the Fair Play for Women website and complete their quick 'objection to the potential change in law' email, takes less than a minute.

Ask everyone you know to fill it in too, before the Friday deadline. Make your voice heard. Keep women's sports for women !

OvaHere · 15/10/2018 16:32

You could be brilliant and train your heart out..but then theirs Usain Bolt...so you may as well give up.

You can respect people like Usain Bolt as amazing athletes in their own sex class. It's not quite the same when mediocre athletes take accolades they could not have won without gaming the system.

Competing against women with male advantage is gaming the system in the same way it would be if adults started entering competitions for the under 18's.

noeffingidea · 15/10/2018 16:33

But I also can't get worked up about this issue as it affects almost no one
Not true. It affects all girls and women who want to compete at all levels. There's already concern that girls and women don't participate in sports enough, and this is only going to make things worse.

Elephantinacravat · 15/10/2018 16:33

It really really doesn't matter. Keep encouraging girls to do sport! The reasons for girls to do sport was never so they could win olympic gold. It was for their health and their enjoyment.

Who says girls who participate in sport shouldnt aim for Olympic gold? How sexist.

How are you going to encourage girls to do sport if they are going to be up against people who have such a significant physical advantage, they cannot hope to compete? What about the safety of girls when it comes to contact sports?

LittlePearl · 15/10/2018 16:33

M3lon, your lack of concern for women and girls is troubling.

In elite sports these are women's careers..... of course it matters.

At amateur level, people compete because they have a passion for it. Why should their chance to excel be denied in such an unfair manner?

JacquesHammer · 15/10/2018 16:34

they won't catch cooties honestly!

I might “catch” a broken bone.

I play rugby. I don’t want to play against a man.

I’m so over this OP. It’s fucking abominable that men are allowed to cheat.
