That a male just won a women’s cycling World Championship?

Can’t really get my mind round this tbh though i was aware of another male Laurel Hubbard taking medals in the Women’s Weight Lifting World Championships earlier this year. Are we really ready for males winning the Women’s Wimbledon Title and the women’s Olympic 100m Final?

" Apparently he went on to compare discrimination against transgender athletes to racism in sports. That is not the same thing!! "

yes it is. it's exactly the same as if I identified as black in order to obtain a scholarship available only to black women.

stillathing · 15/10/2018 15:27

i remember reading something about women's tennis, saying that female players had to be extremely attractive as well as good these days in order to get the sponsorship etc.

it will be interesting to see if males manage to take tennis titles as well. i think it would annoy the people that came for titillation and also those who find the professional male players so strong as to actually render the game less interesting.

because of course the fact that it is grossly and obviously unfair for any female athletes to have to compete against male athletes will never be reason enough to stop this happening.

noeffingidea · 15/10/2018 15:28

Very unfair.
Has no one popped on the thread to tell us we're all being transphobic yet?

LividAtDolphins · 15/10/2018 15:29

I'm curious about the actual rules for eligibility. I'm guessing there is a fair bit of money in a lot of sports when you're the best in the world, associated sponsorships, etc.

FermatsTheorem · 15/10/2018 15:29

Obvious cheat.

But then there's a lot of them around these days. Hannah Mouncey, Laurel Hubbard spring to mind. (And another couple who I won't name because they're under 18, but they're not even on hormone blockers, and have not only bumped promising young women runners out of the medal places, but - because they run in America - are likely to win paid athletics scholarships to college on the back of it, thus depriving a couple of young women of a college education.)

Fromage · 15/10/2018 15:30

There is no longer any point in encouraging our daughters to take part in competitive sport.

I'm no longer referring to men's sport and women's sport. I'm using 'male' and 'female' instead because those are the grounds, not gender identity, on which sport is split.

And no one with an IQ higher than that of a cabbage can argue that transwomen are female.

stillathing · 15/10/2018 15:30

yes speaking woman

couldn't agree more with your analogy. males as a class seem to be forgetting who has the physical / social / structural advantages over females as a class.

RedHelenB · 15/10/2018 15:30

Just as women's football is coming along nicely soon the team will be full of men who couldn't make it to the top menames clubs. I certainly wouldn't want to pursue a career in sport under these conditions if I was a girl now. I till don't see why they can't have a separate trans category

TheKitchenWitch · 15/10/2018 15:30

Women (actual real ones) boycotting all sporting events as soon as trans women ie men enter. That is the only way to deal with this shit.

MangoSplit · 15/10/2018 15:34

Just a reminder to everyone reading this thread to fill in the GRA survey if you have a view on transgender rights affecting women's rights:

BonfiresOfInsanity · 15/10/2018 15:34

I wish the other women in theses races would just boycott. What a complete and utter farce.

M3lon · 15/10/2018 15:34

hmm what about when there are several transwomen all battling out for the women's gold? I wonder if they will start mudslinging at each other. You already see the occasional spat between transwomen as to who is the real deal and who is taking the piss...

WLmum · 15/10/2018 15:35

I despair. I'm seriously afraid for women's futures.

ShatnersWig · 15/10/2018 15:35

Read this on Twitter "It's time for ALL sports to define gender categories as biological birth gender"

I find it hard to disagree with that statement.

OvaHere · 15/10/2018 15:35

I feel so sorry for the female competitors. If they refuse to compete they risk the careers they have worked so hard for plus a shed load of abuse. I believe they possibly would be reprimanded by the official orgs that allow this disgusting misogyny.

So they have to compete and smile through gritted teeth at the loss of medals, rankings, records and sponsorships that were rightfully theirs.

Fromage · 15/10/2018 15:36

I agree, KitchenWitch

I think that goes for the spectators too - in the stands and on tv. And when no one is interested in watching or playing, no one is interested in using an athlete to sell their goods. So once the sponsorship goes, sport becomes financially unsustainable, and then no one is playing. Which I find less regrettable than the current Emperor's New Frock scenario.

FekkoTheLawyer · 15/10/2018 15:36

I haven't really read this. In what way is the winner a woman?

Helmetbymidnight · 15/10/2018 15:36

They had no shame in boasting about it on Twitter. Confused

And there are several women telling them how marvellous they are- the mind boggles.

Helmetbymidnight · 15/10/2018 15:37

They ‘live as a woman’ presumably.

RedHelenB · 15/10/2018 15:38

I do agree though it's time for biological women to boycott or maybe start picketing make events. That might get more attention.

user1471426142 · 15/10/2018 15:39

It’ll just get more and more common. It does seem like it would be tough for a woman to decide to go down a professional sporting career when it’s hard to tell what the competition will be like. I feel very sorry for women in certain disciplines/events where they’ll be shafted. The various governing bodies will need to sort something out soon before woman’s sport becomes a farce.

RedHelenB · 15/10/2018 15:39

Men's events 8 mean.

M3lon · 15/10/2018 15:40

Apparently she is medicating to reduce T. I think this is awful really. Athletics shouldn't be asking people to take drugs to affect their performance in either direction. It makes a mockery.

agedknees · 15/10/2018 15:40

Kitchenwitch - totally agree.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/10/2018 15:40

Cos they said so...self ID and all that!
