That a male just won a women’s cycling World Championship?

Can’t really get my mind round this tbh though i was aware of another male Laurel Hubbard taking medals in the Women’s Weight Lifting World Championships earlier this year. Are we really ready for males winning the Women’s Wimbledon Title and the women’s Olympic 100m Final?

There are things we can do.

Fair play for women GRC reform

The consultation ends on two days.

Onecutefox · 17/10/2018 11:12

but that really penalises women competitors, who struggle with less funding and so on as it is. Why should they have to throw away years of training because a man decides to cheat?

Yes, of course. It would be a double punch against women.

KatherinaMinola · 17/10/2018 11:17

I saw a suggestion that women might continue to compete but refuse to take their places on the podium as runners up, and refuse their medals. That might be an effective message (assuming all the podium places are not taken by men.)

Italiangreyhound · 17/10/2018 11:27

I think journalists could do more to report this accurately.

Like including the male competitors last time and place when competing on their sex class.

Oblomov18 · 17/10/2018 13:39

How far into her trans journey is Rachel McKinnon? Seriously?

Because let's be honest, she's got quite a way to go hasn't she?
How female is she hoping to end up looking?

Sexnotgender · 17/10/2018 14:14

Very reasonable tweet from IW, I’m amazed!

Ta1kinpeace · 17/10/2018 17:44

Oblomov
He is a bloke with testicles and penis.
Same as Bruce Caitlin Jenner
Hmm

SirVixofVixHall · 17/10/2018 19:44

There often is no trans”journey” . 85% of trans keep their penises. Most do not have any surgery or hormones. Many do not wear traditionally female clothes, keep their beards etc ( Danielle Muscado, Alex Drummond) . The whole thing has become a nonsense mix up, with the vast majority of people thinking the issue is a few grumpy feminists versus old school transsexuals,( eg same sex attracted, either having had or waiting for genital surgery) whereas vanishingly few transactivists fall into this bracket at all from what I can see on Twitter. A Labour women’s officer telling women to “suck my big lady cock” etc.
We are making laws based on misperception and misunderstandings. It suits activists very well that the public thinks we are talking about very feminine gay men, when we are actually talking about heterosexual fetishists writ large. No journey, not even a journey into Debenhams to buy a dress and heels. If self id becomes law then this is where we will be, any male person will be able to say they are now female. There are an awful lot of people out there who fall under the Stonewall trans umbrella, including every woman in FWR. It is total and utter meaningless nonsense. Yet it has the power to take away our rights and to also damage the lives of what we used to call transsexuals.

Italiangreyhound · 17/10/2018 23:23

Completely agree SirVixofVixHall. It's s mess.

ShotsFired · 18/10/2018 09:39

The only way to stop it is to not take part in such unfair competitions.

Alongside the point that it simply isn't fair for women to have to withdraw from something they worked for and love, many sports operate on a qualification or points system, so in order to progress or be eligible, you NEED to have participated or won points at lower levels.

So it's not just a show of defiance by refusing to participate once, these women could be risking their entire season or career! And given the general rhetoric of "hysterical women", professional talent scouts are hardly going to be delving deeply into exactly why XYZ hasn't showed up, they will just get discounted from consideration.

They are damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Italiangreyhound · 18/10/2018 09:56

Journalists should make a point of taking a photo of all the three Females who came in the first three spaces and make sure it is in the paper.

It's so sad that males, who could not compete and win against other males, are allowed to complete against females and beat them.

IckyPop · 18/10/2018 10:43

WTAF? Just that. Have no words atm.

theOtherPamAyres · 18/10/2018 11:17

The brave and stunning Fallon Fox met Tamikka Brents in the ring.

Tamikka sustained concussion, seven staples in her head and a broken orbital.

Fair's fair - Fallon is a woman and Tamikka just needs to train harder Sad

Elasticity · 18/10/2018 11:32

Well done Rachel :)

MonsterSister · 18/10/2018 11:41

Why, Elasticity? It's pretty mediocre performance from someone who went through male puberty.

The women taking part weren't allowed to dope with testosterone for twenty years before racing. Why should 'Rachel' be in their category?

Badmoonsarising · 18/10/2018 12:59

Elasticity -

That’s great but McKinnon (and White, and Madigan and Paris Lees/India Willoughby pissing viewers off from their reality TV adventures ) and your pithy post just fires the suspicion and backlash that is rising against the Trans community. If Huntley actually does go and id as a woman, as rumoured this is going to go downhill fast - all helped along by your clever post - so carry on.

And now holey moley- even the Guardian has come out with a fairly strong pro wome/girls article - for The Guardian.

Is there any online petitions about this stuff?

I honestly think the press in general aren't doing enough. The Olympic Committee have me stunned that they think it's ok for men to compete in womens sport.

Was the last olympics not the first that actually allowed womens boxing?

I agree with the point about blokes with fetishes. I was in a restaurant in a Scottish town when in walks a bloke with ladies heals, footless tights, leather mini, long hair and a beard and i mean a proper bushy beard not just a bit of 3 day stubble. If someone is trying to tell me he is transfemale they really do have another thing coming!

Italiangreyhound · 18/10/2018 20:48

If you have not yet filled in the consultation there is a very easy way to use prepared answers.

fairplayforwomen.com/email/

AvoidingDM · 18/10/2018 21:03

I'll do that but I've also hunted around on Change.org and found this one.

www.change.org/p/theresa-may-mp-keep-sex-segregated-areas-sex-segregated
Not sure how to link it but copy and paste should work.

AvoidingDM · 18/10/2018 21:06

Done it!

magoria · 18/10/2018 21:18

I don't normally read The Sun however this stood out to me

She also claims that policing the testosterone levels in her body would be a violation of her human rights.

Surely that is part of dope testing? Without testing testosterone how can it be confirmed it is low enough for them to compete? Even without all the other basic male body advantages!

Italiangreyhound · 19/10/2018 01:18

AvoidingDM well done but the Petition is Closed.

Italiangreyhound · 19/10/2018 01:20

The advantages this athlete has against the females is that years of testosterone have influenced a male body to make that body stronger, taller, bigger lung capacity etc etc. It's not just about testosterone.

Helmetbymidnight · 19/10/2018 07:30

They were on R4 today just now _ I missed most of it. Did anyone catch it?
More on trans rights soon I think.

HeyThoughIWalk · 19/10/2018 07:48

I wonder what the level of trans women is in sports where being male wouldn't confer an advantage. I'm thinking of something like rhythmic gymnastics, where it's probably ( I'm guessing) an advantage to be lighter and agile rather than having brute strength and speed (obviously strength is important, but I guess it's not as important as overall technique?).

Do trans women tend to try their hand at sports like that, or is it heavily weighted towards those where strength, increased lung capacity etc will be a huge help?
