That a male just won a women’s cycling World Championship?

Can’t really get my mind round this tbh though i was aware of another male Laurel Hubbard taking medals in the Women’s Weight Lifting World Championships earlier this year. Are we really ready for males winning the Women’s Wimbledon Title and the women’s Olympic 100m Final?

I think one problem is that when this is discussed in the media, particularly as TV they always seem to use trans women that pass so they look at first glance just like a woman, all be it a tall woman. The reality is most trans women don't pass, they look just like men and even a two year old would spot them. I think if they had a more accurate representation of trans women politicians/panel and public who say that 'of course X is a women, anybody can see that' might not be so confident saying something so clearly and obviously untrue.

Helmetbymidnight · 19/10/2018 08:07

I think another problem is social conditioning- don’t make a fuss, everything’s fine, they feel more strongly than you, feel sorry for them etc etc

Bonions · 19/10/2018 08:19

Some of the competitors are making a fuss

Dr. Rachel McKinnon
@rachelvmckinnon
Sarah Fader beat me in the 500m TT on Wednesday by a considerable margin (I came 4th) AND she qualified faster than me (breaking the world record) in the 200m sprint qualifying. But she withdrew in protest saying it's 'not fair'? She beat me both times.

FekkoTheLawyer · 19/10/2018 08:23

So. When I was a kid there was loads of scandals of eastern European womens sports teams and athletes being given sorts of hormones. They looked and sounded like men and creamed their competitors. They didn't know what their vitamin shots contained and some have had horrible long term side effects as a result.

They were exposed as cheats and had their medals stripped.

Will we be giving their medals back then?

FermatsTheorem · 19/10/2018 08:24

Bonions - interesting. It's widely suspected that Laurel Hubbard may not have tried their best in the World Championships (they were way out in the lead prior to the final round, where they inexplicably failed a lift) in order to establish a track record of not always winning, so that when they went on to the Olympics, they could go flat out and win gold, and claim it was fair (in the event, anno domini caught up with them - remember most trans athletes transition round about retirement age for the rest of the athletics world - so unfortunately are more injury prone, and Hubbard popped an elbow on the day...)

Anyway, I wonder if Fader pulled out because she suspected the same thing was going on? Someone establishing a record of "not always winning" in the heats and minor events, only to try properly in the real deal?

(Cycling is an incredibly strategic sport - this would be a simple add on to the sort of tactics cycling teams regularly use in events like the Tour de France to manipulate race placings between members of their own team - and is of course perfectly legal if done simply for tactical advantage rather than financial gain.)

Chalkhillblu3 · 19/10/2018 08:31

#thisgirlcan't ...because a man muscled in

FekkoTheLawyer · 19/10/2018 08:54

Blade runner

What was the female android called again? We all knew but she was brainwashed into believing that she was a real woman.

ThisMadnessMustStop · 19/10/2018 10:11

Anyone seen the Rod Liddle piece in the Spectator today? “This narcissistic idiot’s [Rachel] fragile sensibilities are totally indulged by the authorities, infuriating his female competitors and making a mockery of the sport. How did we get to this stage, where a shrill but microscopically tiny percentage of the population get to have things their way, to the detriment of everybody else?...the authorities now try to police the issue by focusing on testosterone- but that is a red herring, and does not account for those other advantages enjoyed by men...Simply to say this, of course, is to be committing a hate crime. And yet it is also incontestably true”.

CharlesChickens · 19/10/2018 10:15

Rod is absolutely right.

Satsumaeater · 19/10/2018 10:38

Yes he really is correct. It's good that a man has said it, too.

Males winning medals in female competitions is frustrating enough but the notion that they can rape someone, then say they're a woman, and then get their criminal record wiped - well I can't believe that anyone thinks that's a good idea. It makes the Brexit fustercluck look organised and thought through.

CharlesChickens · 19/10/2018 11:21

Agree Satsumaeater

FekkoTheLawyer · 19/10/2018 11:29

Once the 'shrill but microscopically tiny percentage of the population' start shoving the cis men about, then there will be action.

The only thing worker than an uppity woman and an uppity woman who is physically as strong and as aggressive than a man.

I worked with a woman who was very tall, well built and quite assertive. The men seemed to fawn over her and she was adament that everyone loved her and all the men wanted to sleep with her.

I wasn't keen on her as I thought she was a bully and 'all mouth and no trousers' - but kept quiet about it (emperors new clothes syndrome).

When she left I found out that they were all scared of her and we're very pleased that she left. Even the blokes she had slept with.

So the likes of call-me-ms-tara will scare then shitless.

OrchidInTheSun · 19/10/2018 18:20

What will be the test of course will be if transwomen fail inexplicably at less important competitions and trials and yet win the important ones. Because professional sport is one of the most analysed activities in the world and bookies will most definitely spot it.

I heard McKinnon on Today this morning but couldn't listen to the whole thing. According to McKinnon, the fact (that they dispute) that they've been a man for the past 30 years has zero effect on their performance. Chinny reckon.

LeftRightCentre · 19/10/2018 18:32

This is just fucking ridiculous, and dangerous. It's a matter of time before a female athlete is killed by one of these men.

skybluee · 19/10/2018 18:37

I don't know what the answer is, I truly don't, but to those people earlier in the thread saying there isn't much of a gap in performance between men and women, the gap is STAGGERING.

An elite trained weightlifter woman will often be beaten in performance by the average untrained man. An average untrained man can be stronger than an elite sportswomen.

Some stats from athletics:

The best 800m senior woman in the UK this year is Laura Muir with 1:59.09.

This time would place her 638th on the senior men's 800m ranking.

So that means 637 men nationally would beat her, she is an outstanding athlete, European Champion, medallist at World Championships, Olympian etc. In fact she is the British record holder!

This problem is magnified in the USA where there are so many more competitors. So it may be that the best woman would be more like 2000th or further down etc. And scholarships are at stake along with a lot more.

MrsGollach · 19/10/2018 18:42

Of course there's a gap. My brother used to be a runner. 20 years ago he ran faster than the fastest woman runner in the world. No way would he have been anywhere near the fastest man.

Italiangreyhound · 19/10/2018 18:55

Sean Young played Rachael and Daryl Hannah played Pris in Blade Runner.

BruegelTheElder · 19/10/2018 19:15

skybluee while I agree with your overall point, you're wrong about weightlifting. The female medal winners in the olympics are strong! They lift more than a lot of gym-going men, let alone untrained men.

Italiangreyhound · 19/10/2018 19:29

Not sure why bit someone asked.

Italiangreyhound · 19/10/2018 19:32

"I don't know what the answer is, I truly don't"

I think the answer if that makes and females are different categories of sex class and sports are divided but this and not how people feel in their head.

I think if people literally turn off sports where females are unfairly potted against males then sponsors might start reacting.

I don't want to watch a male cyclist or male weight lifter beat womem in a women's sport.

Italiangreyhound · 19/10/2018 19:34

Oh sorry so many typos!

"I think the answer if that males and females are different categories of sex class and sports are divided by this and not how people feel in their head.

I think if people literally turn off sports where females are unfairly pitted against males then sponsors might start reacting.

bonfireheart · 19/10/2018 20:04

Just have four categories in each sport: male, female, MTF, FTM.

WitchyMcWitchface · 20/10/2018 08:11

Too sensible an idea I would guess.

GladAllOver · 20/10/2018 13:45

It wouldn't work I'm afraid.
The MtF want to in compete with women because they have more chance of winning medals. Why throw away that advantage by having to compete with equals?

GladAllOver · 20/10/2018 13:45

*to compete
