DD used the phrase "KYS" and has been suspended for 3 days?!

DD is 13 and said sent the phrase "KYS" to a boy in her year after he sent her an email saying "type X into the school internet" (the X is the name of a porn star that wouldn't seem like a porn star name if you see what I mean). She replied "KYS" back on the same email. The school have said the boy will be punished for the initial email but he clearly hasn't been punished as much as DD has. 3 days exclusion!?

What is KYS

DaanSaaf · 12/10/2018 18:30

Kill your self?

MrsTWH · 12/10/2018 18:30

I assume that means “kill yourself”?!

Sirzy · 12/10/2018 18:31

Kys? Kill your self?

Pretty mean thing to send

MVLipwig · 12/10/2018 18:31

While a harsh punishment she did tell him to ‘kill your self’ which in the current climate of mental health and anti bullying will not look good. Also was this using the school email system?

LongSummerDays · 12/10/2018 18:31

Kill yourself? Shock

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 12/10/2018 18:31

What does KYS mean?

mollibu · 12/10/2018 18:32

I think that stands for kill yourself... which is a lot more uncalled for than telling someone to type something into google Hmm

parkermoppy · 12/10/2018 18:32

If i am correct, KYS stands for kill yourself? Saying things like that can't be taken lightly so 3 days exclusion is correct. How do you know what the boys punishment is? He shouldn't have provoked your daughter but her reaction was unnecessary she should have just spoken to a teacher

Allthewaves · 12/10/2018 18:32

If it means 'kill yourself' then she deserves three days suspension - that bloody horrendous a d yes she be punished more than a bit emailing a porn stars name

LARLARLAND · 12/10/2018 18:32

If it means what posters are saying it means that’s a horrendous thing to say.

olayjer · 12/10/2018 18:32

She admits she said it flippantly but it's apparently a casual abbreviation people use in fortnite!?!?

She's been completely punished at home too but I can't help sitting here thinking it's a bit harsh.

Dermymc · 12/10/2018 18:32

She told another pupil to kill yourself, delightful.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 12/10/2018 18:32

Well tbh I kind of think if that’s what it means then she deserves it. What an absolute awful thing to send. Teenagers have committed suicide over things like that.

No comment on the other kid as you don’t know what his punishment was.

ContessasGulagSpaDay · 12/10/2018 18:32

She shouldn't have said it. For some reason it comes across as far, far harsher than 'Drop dead' (which I imagine is also Not Ok now).

LARLARLAND · 12/10/2018 18:33

Is it fuck harsh.

parkermoppy · 12/10/2018 18:33

She may have said it flippantly but this is your opportunity to teach her that it is not something that should ever be said flippantly.

MadMum101 · 12/10/2018 18:33

Quick Google brings up 'Kill Your Self' .

I can see why she got a harsher punishment.

Kids doing stupid things without realising implications.

garethsouthgatesmrs · 12/10/2018 18:33

its probably one of those things that is completely banned and dealt with quite severely, rightly so. Talk to her about what she should have done when she recieved the message. She is 13 so the exclusion isn't going to affect her future or anything.

PotteringAlong · 12/10/2018 18:33

If she’s told someone to kill tjemselves be thankful they haven’t permanently excluded her.

Telling someone to kill themselves is a form of bullying that has driven some teenagers to actually do it. No wonder they excluded her.

woodywoo2 · 12/10/2018 18:34

If it means 'kill yourself' you need to have a serious word with your DD! 3 days exclusion isn't enough in my opinion.

Zcarter · 12/10/2018 18:34

Wow you need to have a conversation with your daughter that’s a terrible thing to send to someone. With mental health day being this week there are some recent interesting interviews relating to mental heath and the seriousness of it.

What the boy also done was wrong but her response was terrible even go back to basics and explain two wrongs don’t make a right

CarolDanvers · 12/10/2018 18:35

Anyone going to mention that this boy sent her a pornographic reference? Or does that not matter at all?
