To be shocked that HQ told me off for swearing?!?

Not a TAT but will probably be deleted shortly regardless!

Long standing mner (I remember when all this were fields).

The day before yesterday there was a pile on in a single parent thread. It went on and on, real shit sandwich meanness directed at the op. Lots of supportive posters telling the unsupportive sorts to back off and OP rightfully pointed out that there was a lot of good advice too. I pmd OP and decided to report all the crappy posts to HQ so hopefully by morning the OP would have a nice shiny supportive thread to wake up to.

I cut and pasted most of my reports which consisted of "wanker" or "nasty vicious fucker" and got as many as I could before going to bed. It was a pile on, there was a lot.

I got an email from MNHQ yesterday telling me off.

Here it is;

Hi there XXPowerShield,
Thanks for all your reports, we are going to look at that thread now. We might ask the favour, though, that in future you stick to reporting for guidelines that are being broken because while we have no objection to swearing on the boards, 30 or so curse-laden reports weren't that pleasant for our staff to start their day with.
Best,
Hope
MNHQ

I am shocked, in the past when I have apologised for overly verbose sweary reports I have been told not to worry, HQ love the swearing. AIBU to be a bit Hmm at this response? Some of my reports were deleted but loads left standing including such gems as -

knowing that you were in this situation with three kids you decided to have another with someone who was not a DH, a life partner, who was clearly not able to support his child and neither were you.

I'm amazed at how little thought many women put into having babies...often with men they hardly know.

You didn't have to have four children with two deadbeats.

I wouldn't say the system is set up to fail, I would say that being a single mother with four children is intrinsically a losing situation to be in

what I dont get is if they were all wanted how comes the fathers dont bother

you decided to have another child when you already had ...You've made your situation worse,

I wasn't the only one annoyed by the stirrers on the thread (but maybe the only one who reported a bunch of nasty vicious fuckers to HQ).

I weep for humanity after reading some of these replies. ...One question to the benefit bashers do you want to live in Dickensian Britain?

I feel like I have missed a memo but am currently composing my reply to HQ but really how does one respond to the phrase "curse-laden"?!?

I’ve used swears in a report to mumsnet before with no issues. But more in a comedic way then verbally aggressive which yours could come across as. It’s funny to call someone a trolling twatbadger. And would raise a smile. I don’t think it would have been fair for me to send 30 identical reports saying that. It would wear thin quickly.

Your reports of wanker or nasty visious fucker was unnecessarily aggressive and was probably really unpleasant to face. Imagine getting a full email box of that. The mods are humans too.

BrightonGallery7 · 11/10/2018 20:35

I think they are right to tell you off. The swearing on this site is pretty grim.

Maybe there is a change in the offing...

Crunchymum · 11/10/2018 20:37

I don't understand.

You got told off for swearing? As you copied your own replies on the thread in question?

EK36 · 11/10/2018 20:37

I think they were right.

NicoAndTheNiners · 11/10/2018 20:38

I guess as posters we have the choice to be here or not. MN is quite robust and if that doesn't suit you can go elsewhere.

But for mnhq it's their job. They don't have the option of just going elsewhere and not everyone likes swearing.

Personally I swear like a trooper inc in posts sometimes. But I wouldn't when contacting mnhq.

XXPowerShield · 11/10/2018 20:38

ok so
twatbadger good,
wanker bad,
nasty vicious fucker bad

Sorry did you report someone swearing or you were swearing?

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/10/2018 20:40

Good for them. Why should they put up with it?

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 11/10/2018 20:40

It’s funny to call someone a trolling twatbadger. And would raise a smile. I don’t think it would have been fair for me to send 30 identical reports saying that. It would wear thin quickly.

This.

It's okay to swear once or twice; but if you want to cut and paste thirty times, you need a more standard message. Thirty sweary reports isn't fair.

AuntBeastie · 11/10/2018 20:40

I think it’s fair enough for them to not want to deal with an inundation of sweary reports.

XXPowerShield · 11/10/2018 20:41

Crunchymum, I pressed report then under reason wrote "wanker" or "nasty vicious fucker", referring to the post I was reporting obviously.
I don't usually do much more than a word or two when reporting. I am defo an employer of wide vernacular though!

BehemothPullsThePeasantsPlough · 11/10/2018 20:42

Interesting. I routinely swear when reporting to MNHQ, and don’t think twice about it but then I’m normally describing absolute 100% cast iron evil out-and-proud trolls who’ve come here to call us all ugly frigid bitches, whereas you were presumably mostly talking about posters who were legit, though unpleasant, MNers. (Not suggesting you were wrong to report though, happy to take your word for it that they were being vile). I guess your reports just came across harshly on that day.

puzzledlady · 11/10/2018 20:42

im confused - people on a post swore and you didnt like it so you decided to cut copy and paste every single bad-word into your complaint to MNHQ?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 11/10/2018 20:42

Oh right I get you. Yes I can sort of see where they're coming from tbh maybe a 🤨 instead would be better?

XXPowerShield · 11/10/2018 20:43

Ah so the number is the thing, should I just stick to the hairy handed references in future?

And seriously the OP was taking a pounding, it was savage.

OP posts:
Mookatron · 11/10/2018 20:43

I would be stung by that message too, but just try to take it for what it is - somebody asking you to think about the people reading the reports first thing. Probably, to be honest, somebody who'd already got out of bed on the wrong sideWink

Stonebake · 11/10/2018 20:43

I think MNHQ’s message is fair enough tbh. They weren’t telling you off for swearing but making you aware that the whole office came in to see “wanker”, “nasty fucker” on their screens. It probably wasn’t very nice for them to come in to.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 11/10/2018 20:43

So why do you think the fact that you think someone’s a wanker deserves to get their post deleted Confused.

And you were swearing profusely in a conversation with someone at mn. Why do they have to accept that?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 11/10/2018 20:45

Tbh I just usually say something along the lines of "can you take a look please" or "this is not on" or even "ahem".

XXPowerShield · 11/10/2018 20:47

Grin I always have and always will report posters who are clearly stirring and being a wanker to the OP for being a wanker yes ThickAndThin, obviously henceforth I will not point to the wanker saying wanker things and call them a wanker when in discussion with HQ. I will stick to trollish descriptors with an occasional tawtbadger.

OP posts:
MargotLovedTom1 · 11/10/2018 20:48

Ffs they're just typed words. The staff need to toughen up a bit if they're that aggrieved about some effing and blinding not even personally directed at them.

XXPowerShield · 11/10/2018 20:52

I think a twatbadger and a tawtbadger are two different things, I'll keep to the first one.

OP posts:
Crunchymum · 11/10/2018 20:53

Oh right, I see what you mean now.

In essence MNHQ are right though? Whilst the posters were indeed wankers, that isn't technically telling MNHQ how they've broken guidelines.

MandalaYogaTapestry · 11/10/2018 20:53

To be fair, the posts you quoted were written in a civil language and they reflect a position that this person believes in. They have a point as well. Just because you disagree it doesn't make them a wanker.

Jellyonawonkyplate · 11/10/2018 20:54

The swearing on here is a bit much, really. I don't believe that the majority of swearers on here speak like that in everyday life.

Imagine being at a supermarket and the person in front of you is a bit rude to the cashier. When you get to the front of the queue would you then say 'wow, well weren't they a fucking wanking cunt'.

No. No you wouldn't. So stop doing it so much here.
