To think the tide is turning with transgenderism

abacucat · 11/10/2018 10:05

There have been a flood of articles in mainstream newspapers criticising transgenderism and putting forward the feminist perspective. It is not long ago that no mainstream newspaper would carry these articles. The tide seems to be turning.

WongaGoneWronga I assume, being AIBU you are welcome to say YABU, without saying the post belongs elsewhere? Sometimes people post in AIBU for traffic.
You're welcome to put forward an argument as to why this post is BU. But you seem to just want to scold OP for not sticking to the box you think she should be in?

3. Misrepresenting stats or making them up to suit the anti-self-ID agenda

If you have better stats please head over to FWR and post them. If you have evidence of stats being made up I would be glad to see it. Nothing would please me more than to know that I have got this wrong and am worrying about nothing.

WongaGoneWronga · 11/10/2018 13:28

Handmaiden - can I call bingo yet?

Scrumplestiltskin · 11/10/2018 13:28

WongaGoneWronga I explicitly said that CaligulaBlushed had as much right to call themselves a feminist as anyone else, so...
I just personally think feminism should put females first and foremost in its concerns.

Scrumplestiltskin · 11/10/2018 13:30

WongaGoneWronga You can call bingo once you've rebutted the stats I've posted here:

noeffingidea · 11/10/2018 13:46

Yes I agree with you, OP, at least it would seem so on twitter. Nice to see that the Wellcome trust took note of popular opinion on twitter and stopped using the stupid womxn word. In fact, they actually apologised!

BlooperReel · 11/10/2018 13:49

3. Misrepresenting stats or making them up to suit the anti-self-ID agenda

Funnily enough, i see this repeatedly from TRA's and their supporters, such as the now widely discredited suicide stats Mermaids et al like to use to beat people into guilty submission and insist proves Trans people are the most oppressed group ever

Or when TRA's like to say there is zero risk from self ID, and that bad things never happen when gym changing rooms, womens refuges, hospital wards, prisons etc allow self ID.

All bullshit though, isn't it.

Binglebong · 11/10/2018 13:53

Thanks Bingle this pretty much answers my questions. I will add that these stats should be interpreted with extreme caution due to the very low number of cases.

Please to be of assistance. You are right about the caution needed - the numbers are very small so a single person can make a dramatic difference. It doesn't make things easy.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 11/10/2018 14:05

Im not sure how relevant the Transgender Remembrance Day is, given that in the UK there have been more transgender murderers than victims, and in the past 10 years only 6 transwomen have been killed, none as a result of transphobic attacks.

3 were sex workers killed because of their sex work
2 were killed for financial reasons
1 was killed by another transgender person

A lot of the claims about the high murder rate of transwomen ignore the fact that most of the victims are sex workers. There's a very high rate of murder for female sex workers too. White middle class transwomen are less likely to be murdered than nearly any other group.

There's a previous thread detailing all this here.

Binkytheslug · 11/10/2018 14:12

I’ve just spotted this in Guardian Online. The whole business is a sad illustration of everybody’s fears about transgenderism’s assault on women, but look at the outcome. Look where they ended up. I may be misguided, and possibly posting in the wrong place, but I take hope from it.

Scrumplestiltskin · 11/10/2018 14:15

I suppose 8 years and 166 days at minimum is pretty standard for the crimes, and not a light sentence? I hope that White will indeed serve that sentence in a male prison, and if that's the case, it seems a very fair outcome.

Bekabeech · 11/10/2018 15:00

@Prawnofthepatriarchy that is exactly the kind of statistic and fact that I am seeking. US ones are irrelevant in our very different society (and their murder rate is so much higher).

VerbeenaBeeks · 11/10/2018 15:11

Bing bong, I call bingo too Grin waiting patiently with the dabber for the you're a man or an MRA comments towards any dissenters next
......

StormTreader · 11/10/2018 15:12

The fact that newspapers are more willing to carry anti-trans opinions does not mean that the battle against transgender people has been won.

THE BATTLE AGAINST TRANSGENDER PEOPLE.
There it is. Argue its all for "womens rights" as much as you like, its really just transphobia behind a thin mask of faux concern.
This is the reason so many posters have hidden the "Feminism" board.

VerbeenaBeeks · 11/10/2018 15:12

Ooo noticed that TRA can be ticked off too

VerbeenaBeeks · 11/10/2018 15:13

Exactly, Stormtreader. Some sickening attitudes on here.

SerenDippitty · 11/10/2018 15:15

have you ever had lunchtime seminars in regards to supporting colleagues who have come out as gay, or are pregnant, or have suffered bereavement, or suffer from a mental illness? Genuine question - for all I know that's common practice, but am curious.

Mental health and supporting gay colleagues yes.

Binkytheslug · 11/10/2018 15:15

Scrumplestilskin, that’s the whole thing that, to me, gives hope. Yes, she was jailed, but more importantly, she has been sent to a male prison.

PlantsArePeopleToo · 11/10/2018 15:15

Uh you do realise that poster was taking the piss out of feminist posters, @StormTreader?

VerbeenaBeeks · 11/10/2018 15:16

Least one comes right out and says it for what it is, so it's right in your face. The faux concerned ones who are extremely transphobic but trying to hide it are the worst. That one comment shows exactly what the duck is wrong with MN lately - all the hatred

PlantsArePeopleToo · 11/10/2018 15:17

I see that post has been deleted now. I guess MNHQ don't pick up on sarcasm very well either.

PlantsArePeopleToo · 11/10/2018 15:18

Again that poster was taking the piss out of the gender critical feminists here. They weren't being serious.

VerbeenaBeeks · 11/10/2018 15:21

That did not come across as sarcasm. MN hq must have agreed

PlantsArePeopleToo · 11/10/2018 15:22

A quick AS of @ChelleDawg2020 shows they are a very pro trans poster and disagrees with the gender critical feminists viewpoint.

No idea why her obvious piss taking post has been taken so seriously by a couple of posters (and apparently MNHQ Hmm).

VerbeenaBeeks · 11/10/2018 15:23

Inflammatory maybe?
