To ask what people understand the consequences of 'Hard Brexit' are

It's no secret I'm a Remainer but I'm at the point where I think the only option might well be Hard Brexit and live with the consequences to avoid a situation where 'the will of the people' was ignored.

What do people think a No Deal Brexit will entail?

I think it's whoever decided that we as a nation should be allowed to vote for this at fault.

I personally didn't vote either way because I simply couldn't sift through all the misinformation to make an informed decision.

There was too much for me to get my head around.

It's worrying.

The return of violence in NI. UNFORGIVABLE absolutely UNFORGIVABLE. What a shit show brexit is.

MrPipsGran · 19/12/2018 12:25

Maybe I've missed something in all this but I thought that, legally, the referendum in 2016 was not binding. If this is so, why are the government still pursuing it? I know the government at the time promised to carry out the decision but let's be honest, governments renege on promises much of the time. Who is behind the push to Brexit and what do they stand to gain? (oh lordy, I sound like a conspiracy theorist!)

poppoppop100 · 19/12/2018 12:35

a 'No deal' scenario has been planned for for 2.5 years .It is by far better than the May deal and in time will be better than remaining in the EU

bellinisurge · 19/12/2018 12:37

@poppoppop100 you are utterly deluded if you think No Deal is better.

ChristmasRaven · 19/12/2018 12:37

From a personal viewpoint only, I don't expect my life to change in the slightest. My job will not be impacted at all by Brexit. I don't have to worry about needing life saving drugs right now. Some things may go up a bit in price but I don't think it will be that bad. I have no intention of panic buying anything. I never think about Brexit except when I come on MN and see threads like this! So whether it's hard, soft or squidgey matter's not to me! I deal with problems in my life as and when they occur. What good does worrying do?

poppoppop100 · 19/12/2018 12:38

so we should let a terrorist group dictate the future of the uk?I don't think that is a great precedent to set.Lets bring in Sharia law while we're at it , eh?

bellinisurge · 19/12/2018 12:41

@poppoppop100 seriously, are you Faridge. Shutting down discussion of NI and willy waving about Sharia law is a typical Nige tactic.

TiddleTaddleTat · 19/12/2018 12:41

I don't think people understand the consequences of a no deal Brexit.
Unless you've lived through civil unrest / war / political instability in your own country you are probably ignorant of how it can happen anywhere. I feel we are sleepwalking into a disaster and fear for my children's future in all honesty.

poppoppop100 · 19/12/2018 12:45

um, I think there will be a lot more civil unrest if the 'leave ' vote is ignores. Why do you think a no deal Brexit will bring civil unrest?

poppoppop100 · 19/12/2018 12:46

who is 'Faridge'?

bellinisurge · 19/12/2018 12:48

How you should pronounce Nigel's surname.

TiddleTaddleTat · 19/12/2018 13:01

@poppoppop100 I don't think the 'leave' vote has or will be ignored.
Those that voted 'leave' did not necessarily want economic turmoil - all forecasts of no deal predict that.

LaurieMarlow · 19/12/2018 13:04

um, I think there will be a lot more civil unrest if the 'leave ' vote is ignores. Why do you think a no deal Brexit will bring civil unrest?

Um, food shortages, medicine shortages, imminent job losses. Do you really think remainers who didn't want any of this shit are going to take that lying down? Hmm

Damned either way probably. A chequers style fudge is probably the best outcome we can hope for.

bellinisurge · 19/12/2018 13:06

Leave with the Withdrawal Agreement or don't leave.
Simple.

BorisBogtrotter · 19/12/2018 13:08

Threatening civil unrest if the leave process doesn't happen the way you want it undermines the claims about democracy.

But they were just excuses anyway.
