How much do you eat in a day?

I may be very unreasonable to ask this... and nosey... but I need to lose a bit of weight and I wonder if I tend to eat more or less than other people. My husband seems to eat very little really but is slightly overweight.

So, if you want to, hit me with your HONEST food diary for today/yesterday/a typical day.

About 3k 5 days a week and then 0-500 2 days a week but have been eating way less recently owing to injury and not doing my normal 16ish hours a week climbing

Mostly eat high fat and quite high carbs

Very very fast metabolism, have lost a lot of weight since I stopped/switched exercise.

Normally don't eat anything until about 10 and don't generally eat later than 6ish. So all/most calorie intake is in an 8 hour period

I've lost just over 4 stones, although slowly, and I'm 4 pounds away from being in the normal BMI range (though I'm planning on losing at least a few more pounds after that.
I eat pretty much the same kind of thing every day, it saves me obsessing over food and helps me see food as fuel to meet my nutritional needs, instead of something to make me feel good. I don't count calories but I use a dessert size plate to portion control. I also exercise a fair amount, I swim for an hour a day (5 times a week) and walk 5 miles a day, sometimes more. I will give you a few options.
Breakfast - 1 slice wholemeal toast no butter) half a tin of beans on toast, 1 poached egg / 2 slices of cheese on toast with tomato ketchup/ fishfinger sandwich (2 slices of wholemeal bread with butter, 3-4 grilled fish fingers, I have vinegar instead of tartare sauce.
Lunch - houmous sandwich with cherry tomatoes and cucumber / low fat yoghurt and banana / porridge made with skimmed milk and mixed dried fruit
Dinner - tinned mackerel or cheese omelette with salad and new potatoes / pasta (about 80gs dry weight) with broccoli and peas and cream cheese / noodles with veg and chopped cashews
Snacks - fruit / yoghurt / slice of toast with jam or marmalade. I do still have the odd bar of chocolate, cake or packet of crisps, probably why it's taken me so long.
My advice is to take it slowly and get as fit as you can, that way you get used to eating the right amount and you don't want to pig out anymore. I don't see myself as being on a diet, just eating normally, which I can stick to forever really. Good luck to you.

Wish I had your discipline Single I used to but not so much now. I may try the soup and protein thing for lunch though now winter is here. I just have to have my rice or potato and I know if I give it up I will lose the 5kg that I want to.

So far today
Just had a slice of brown toast with some crunchy peanut butter
I need to go shopping & get something for dinner.
If it wasn't for the family I would be happy with a bowl of soup.
I am peckish now so going to have a coffee & a biscuit

Today I’ve been particularly crap

Breakfast - bacon and scrambled eggs (just eggs and a dash of milk’

Lunch - bowl of porridge

Tonight - home made chicken gumbo, so apart from the chorizo it’s pretty healthy.

I’m trying to lose weight too and it’s coming off slowly. I’ve been dieting for years and found that if I just chill out and stay away from the high calories stuff like sweets and crisps it’s working for me

@MrsMWA about 10 years ago, I lost 4 stones and I’m never doing it again! Low carb, low fat, high protein works for my metabolism.

Normally my diet is abysmal - I mean really bad. Breakfast would be a couple of slices of toast smothered in spread, maybe some cereal or something else about an hour later. Lunch crackers with spread and cheese (about 8) and a cup soup. Dinner a pizza. I would think nothing of snacking on biscuits and biscuits crisps.

Today I am on day two of making adjustments to my diet:

B: coffee with skimmed milk and a handful of various vitamins/supplements.

L: green leaves, half a micro pack (serving) of bulgar wheat/quinoa/brown rice(Aldi) and a skinless chicken breast with Nando's dry seasoning and about half a teaspoon of pine nuts. No salad dressing

I've just had a small coconut yoghurt (muller light).

Dinner is going to be 2 turkey sausages, the rest of bulgar wheat mix and more green leaves.

And then for a snack if I need it later is a packet of veg crisps from ASDA.

I have a lot of weight to lose (I'm currently 15st 3lb and about 5'6") but focusing on changing my diet for healthy choices and adding in some exercise and then will look at losing weight once I feel about healthier.

Yesterday
B - Museli and Muller light yogurt
L - jacket potato and cottage cheese
D - chicken fajitas
S - apple

Drinks, I have about 4 cups of coffee and cordial and water

Today
B - museli and yogurt
L - homemade soup
D - cauliflower pasta bake

I get to work at 8 so eat my breakfast here, at weekends I tend to have stuff with scrambled eggs.

For those wanting to exercise, I do T25 (It's only 25 minutes and can do it in the evenings after work. I go for a run (only 30 minutes) or for a swim in my lunch hour as we're right near a pool.

Today I’ve had:

About 150ml semi skimmed milk (in my coffees)
Half an avocado, 2 eggs, slice of ham, slice of smoked cheddar cheese and about 10 cherry tomatoes.

Cucumber, beetroot, cherry toms as a snack

Dinner will he a chicken breast wrapped in bacon, probably with either mushy peas or with salad.

100g full fat Greek yog.

Currently on about 10k steps, will be running 10km tonight. I usually average about 15-20k steps a day.

I’m not counting calories at the moment but I’d imagine I eat around 1500 a day, maybe more at weekends, maybe less on one or two weekdays if I’m really busy.

My diet is utter shite but in my defence I genuinely don't feel hungry and I can still lift heavy weights at the gym.

No breakfast
No "lunch" as such, see grazing below
1 shortbread biscuit
Some m&ms
Bits of chicken breast
Dinner - chicken Katsu with mixed veg
Probably another biscuit

When I'm at work (on mat leave) I have lunch, generally soup.

I'm 5'2, 8 stone and do weight training 3 times a week and try to get out for long walks with the pram twice a week.

Today - I am on a diet and eating 1200/1300 a day to get a good deficit, and trying to do 8-10,000 steps.

B - 2 coffees with soya milk, 2 egg omelette with 100g roasted red pepper and 75g feta. Cooked in a teaspoon of olive oil.

L - homemade broccoli and Stilton soup

Another coffee with soya milk

D - 4 grain cous cous with lemon and mint and a little olive oil, roasted chickpeas, griddled courgette and more feta (if I open it we eat it quickly because it goes off so fast)

Cronometer reckons 1285kcal.

Protein shake after training at the gym this morning.

Lentil salad for lunch.

Not sure if I'll bother with dinner, there's some bulgar wheat salad in the fridge if I want to.

I don't eat very much on a daily basis, although I do drink a lot of water/coffee and do go massively b*lls-out on a big occasion (no disordered eating here!).

I'm 5'8", about 70kg, size 10-12, run/train/go to the gym about four times a week.

I must confess I look at some of these threads and am astonished by how much some people eat. How do they have time? I have to go for a snooze, like a lion, after a big meal.

Today I didn't eat that much. Sometimes I have two breakfasts!

Breakfast - Large coffee
Lunch - Latte, chargrilled chicken sandwich and a apple and blueberry crumble thing from Caffe Nero
Dinner - leftover stir-fry with rice.
Had at least three glasses of water during the day and some sweets.

But some days I will literally have coffee and cereal in the morning, something from pret when I get to work, then a big lunch from wasabi, or something from boots, plus snacks, then a big dinner.

Today was a typical day while following the Slimming World programme;

Breakfast - Coffee with milk and Overnight Oats (40g porridge oats, 200g natural fat free yogurt and mixed berries)

Snack - banana and an apple

Lunch - Ham, 40g couscous and lots of lettuce with 2 tablespoons of reduced fat salad cream

Snack - 2 oranges

Dinner - Slow cooker pulled pork, chips and homemade coleslaw

Evening snack-nothing tonight, but usually I'd have a small chocolate bar or biscuit and a yogurt or some fruit and a cup of tea.

I drink 2 litres of water and 1-2 diet colas a day. I've lost 3 stone in 5 months.

My BMI is about 20.

Generally I have porridge for breakfast. I love different toppings & flavourings on it, so it's different every day. I also add a dollop of yoghurt to it for protein.

Lunch is usually a massive salad with some kind of protein, or an omelette, tin of soup etc.

Dinner is with DH and I try & do one veggie day and 2 fish days per week. Roast once a week.

I do have treats, as long as it fits into my limit. The mini chocolate bars are good for this.

I drink a lot of tea & coffee and water.

These diets really make me feel ashamed! For my health I should try and be better but I really struggle as I am breastfeeding. I was a touch underweight when I got pregnant due to poor health so had a bit to gain, I am now 7lbs heavier than when I got pregnant so quite happy to stay this weight, have been this for 8 months now and my BMI is 20. I think it is a mix of luck and I did notice recently that I am constantly on the go, from when I wake up to when I go to bed I am quite a fidgety person (and following my crazy 10.5 month old around definitely burns calories!)
I don’t do anything but walks at the moment for my shame. My diet is pretty poor:
Today’s
Breakfast - Honey nut hoops, skimmed milk
1 kiwi
Snack - rich tea biscuit, quarter of a slice of chocolate cake (homemade)
Lunch - leftover cottage pie
French stick with butter
Dinner - homemade leek and roasted garlic quiche with a massive salad
Pudding - half a box of matchmakers 🙈

Drinks I only ever have tea or water really sometimes sugar free squash and most mornings I have 100ml of smoothie or oj when we have it in.

Hope your diet goes well. I would advise don’t deprive yourself of anything! Just have little bits of something sweet if you’re feeling desperate, that alone won’t make you gain weight and if anything will probably stop you falling off the wagon x
