I may be very unreasonable to ask this... and nosey... but I need to lose a bit of weight and I wonder if I tend to eat more or less than other people. My husband seems to eat very little really but is slightly overweight.

So, if you want to, hit me with your HONEST food diary for today/yesterday/a typical day.

gosh ,I don't log my food, I just remember it. Yesterday I skated ~90 minutes & ate

1.5 pieces of bread with some kind of low calorie fake butter & jam, tea with milk; something else I forget, maybe a banana

1 banana, 3 tangerines, a large cake (was famished at this point, but knew a huge supper was coming, so held back)

many crackers with lots of cream cheese, many tomatoes, 2 glasses of wine
Plateful: sweet potato in some kind of fat, green beans, baked sprouts, some pieces of ham
2 medium large pieces of chocolate cake

I don’t think my weight has anything to do with my diet.

I eat between 1200 - 1700 calories per day 1700 calories and I am overly stuffed. (Very rarely).

But then I have days where I eat a round or 2 of cheese on toast and 2 cups of coffee.

In the past 4 years (coincided with the menopause) I have put on 4.5 stone.

It also coincided with raging insomnia.

I have been taking melatonin and I have a fit bit.

I have noticed that my diet doesn’t really change but the times I lose weigh is when I get at least 6.5 hours.
I have gone from sleeping between 1.5 - 4 hours per night to more like 5 hours.

Still not enough.

I did have an 8hrs 40 mins sleep (I felt the best I have felt in a very long time and got so much work done) and lost 4lbs over night and I had 2 nights of 7 hours and lost 2 lbs per day over those 2 days but I can see it gradually creep up the more I don’t sleep.

I've lost a fair bit of weight in the last few months by eating far fewer sweet things and far more vegetables. I've been aiming for lifestyle change rather than diet. One of my principles has been to eat plenty so I don't feel like I'm depriving myself. Today I ate:

B: porridge with apple, raisin and cinnamon.

L: leftover homemade vegetable and prawn curry.

D: 2 roasted chicken joints, roasted veg (carrots, parsnips, potatoes, beetroot, onions, brussels sprouts, courgettes). 2 homemade mince pies with extra thick cream for pudding (this is not part of my usual diet!)

S: grapes, Brazil nuts and 85% dark chocolate.

You do realise that those of us who eat to much or eat the wrong things are never in a million years going to post honest intake, especially this time of the year.
I will only own up to a broken sugar cane but deny testing flavoured gin.

Oh, and I don't drink alcohol - I really only drink water (2-3L a day) and tea with no sugar. I think that makes a big difference in weight.

Work days look like this:

Breakfast - An apple, a banana, a bottle of water, a cup of tea in a travel cup and an Up & Go

Lunch - Rice cakes with half an avocado and a tomato on them, plus another apple, more water

Afternoon tea - A mango or some strawberries and raspberries

Dinner - Whatever's going - last night it was home made sweet corn fritters, mashed potato and steamed veggies

I walk between 6 and 8km every morning before work.

There is always some chocolate in there too. At the moment, this is mainly Lindt balls or Cadbury Roses as we've got bucketloads at work, but normally it's plain Cadbury chocolate and 1-2 rows every evening.

I am 5'7" and weigh 53.5kg last I checked. This is the weight I stay around regardless of what I eat. I have been this weight since I was 12. Some days (or weeks) I eat poorly, but then I get the balance back on track again.

For breakfast I had pain au chocolat with orange juice
For lunch I had some porridge and a banana and apple juice
and for dinner I had spaghetti bolognaise with peas and water and then an apple for pudding
I have recently cut down my food intake quite significantly as I was overeating a lot! I really struggle to eat healthy foods though!

Today I had a scoop of protein powder in water after I came back from the gym, at 9am ish.

For breakfast, I ate half a tin of baked beans on three thin slices of wholemeal bread, with butter on at 11am ish.

I ate 4 cadburys chocolate bars (yep 144g total) over the course of the daytime. As a consequence, I wasn't hungry for lunch. I have such a sweet tooth.

For dinner, I ate a small stew with a piece of fried chicken, and I ate 8 churros (8!) with chocolate dipping sauces - I ate both of these because I went to a Christmas food market today.

In conclusion, I ate a LOT of sugar today!

I'm too variable.

If at work and 'being good' i'll have:

2 cups milky filter coffee
A paleo/raw nutty bar thingy
Meat + veg dinner (large)

If im not at work i have time for lunch which might be pork chop, bacon, sausages, hard boiled egg, ham or cheese. Maybe an apple or some chutney?

If im being bad just add a big bag of crisps, a slice of cake, a large bag of sweets or up to two scoops of ice cream/day.

I'm 5ft7 and a bit overweight (size14/16) but recovering from BED and i do feel im making progress overall. Having a wee break on some things for crimbo - will have some cake/chocolate. Thats about all i feel tempted by, i dont drink so no wasted cals there.

Breakfast - 2 crumpets with butter and marmite, tea

Brunch(ish) - polished off a pot of creme freche straight from the pot. Leftover fromnlast nights rissotto. Plus 1 (brown!!) Pitta bread with aioli dio, which I really don't like but the hummus had started to go crusty and yellow around the edges.

Lunch (at 2ish) - 2 slices of fruit load with butter and jam, shared with my 8month baby.

Dinner 6.30ish - 3 potato skins with cheese bacon and bbq sauce (and a few floppy leaves) in the pub with a beer.

8ish - Mince pie

I will prob have some cheese and biscuits now 😏

I am a size 10, and i would say i eat more than people i know who are overweight. I don't do any exercise. My mum is the same. We both walk really quickly and walk a lot though. I think some people get lucky.

Can't believe how well some of you manage to eat - my diet is shite and I've been gradually putting on weight over the past 10yrs and it's getting to the point I need to do something about it. My new partner is tiny and probably weighs several stones less than I do. He doesn't think I'm fat but it's starting to bother me now.

My problem is that I work long hours plus a 4-5hr daily commute. I'm too shattered to exercise after work, can't take food with me to work as it arrives at work warm after various bus and train rides and don't want to risk food poisoning by whacking it back in the fridge. Tried soup and noodles etc but I'm starving after half an hour of eating. All there is to buy near work is McDonalds or very expensive posh but fatty sarnies in a local cafe.

I work away a lot which means lots of unhealthy foods and missed meals so snacking in between.

Breakfast: 2x weetabix, chopped banana, blueberries

Lunch: salad made with iceberg lettuce, cherry tomatoes, 2x boiled eggs, few slices of wafer thin ham

Dinner: pasta (probably about 100g dried weight) with home made tomato sauce and broccoli

Snack: apple and/or multipack size bag of mini cheddars if hungry

I don’t eat much sweet food, I have no sweet tooth, and am not much of a snacker but I do snack if hungry and don’t count calories.

This is a typical day but in the run up to Christmas I have had five meals out in ten days and am now sick of eating.

Exercise - about an hour, five days a week. Spin classes and pilates mainly. I’m at the top end of healthy BMI but losing weight, would like to drop a stone.

Every weekday is the same:
At work: x2 eggs, an apple and 1/3 of a brocolli.
Immediately after work: plain salad leaves, approx 1/4 cucumber, 1/3 pack Tilda rice with either prawns/mussels/salmon flakes. Followed by hand full of berries and a satsuma.

Gym - 10km run, or a spin class followed by weights class or yoga.

Post gym: salad leaves and avadcado or feta, or small bowl of soup and x2 quorn sausages. Followed by a handful of berries.

On a Friday and Sunday I have a salmon fillet, broccoli, half pack of rice and Caribbean jerk sauce. Followed by something sweet on a Friday, or berries on Sunday.

For dinner on a Saturday we have whatever we fancy. Usually huge tuna steak, but this weekend we are sharing a supermarket pizza.

I like knowing what I’m going to eat and not having to plan meals. Also, both of our bodies are pretty much where we want them to be, although we could cut back on the Fri/Sat night before holidays if we needed. Meals over Xmas will be pretty much the same, other than Xmas day when we’re eating out, but that will be our lunch/dinner in one sitting.
