Boots

Well, if he has that amount of money to waste on boots he knew you would not allow her to wear, then I hope he pays you decent maintenance!

starzig · 20/09/2018 21:06

Not getting the tarty and stripper comments. I think they look quite frumpy. But agree with her being to young for heels that high. Could damage her feet and leg muscles.

NTitled · 20/09/2018 21:07

Some of these comments are bonkers. Growing feet, young feet, growing spines, etc. The OP's daughter isn't going to be going to school in them, FFS. IRL, she'll wear them a couple of times, find them clumpy and uncomfortable and impractical, and then they will be consigned to the back of the wardrobe and then the bin (where they belong, IMO, because they're hideous). But if a fuss is made, she'll want to wear them a whole lot more. I'm presuming that a (possibly understandable) dislike of the ex is what's really going on. FWIW, he is a tosser for spending this much on anything for a growing child/pre-teen, regardless of taste.

VerbenaGirl · 20/09/2018 21:23

You are not being unreasonable. Go with your instinct!

Lovemusic33 · 20/09/2018 21:24

I wouldn’t want my 12 year old wearing them, I might consider letting my 14 year old wear them (she would never want too). No way would I spend that much on a pair of boots for a 12 year old though, wouldn’t spend that on myself.

CaMePlaitPas · 20/09/2018 21:25

12?!?!
"No, sweetheart, find something else please."

Oliversmumsarmy · 21/09/2018 03:14

I mentioned growing feet in relation to spending £170 in something that might not fit her next week apart from that they look too old for a 12 year old but not in a stripper type of fashion statement as some have said but more in a middle aged way.

pinkunicorn20 · 21/09/2018 03:26

Agree they are not appropriate for a 12 yo.

Incidentally they would be perfect for me. Op if you would like to sneakily dispose of them and they're a size 5.........

brizzledrizzle · 21/09/2018 03:33

Do you like them? Find yourself a similar pair and/or comment how they are great mum boots.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 21/09/2018 03:56

YANBU, they are too high for someone of her age. As you've already pointed out, the potential for damage to her tendons, muscles and joints is too high if she wears them regularly.
If it's only a couple of hours a weekend, then I can't see that being much of an issue, so long as she's not going on a 2 hour hike in them (can't imagine why anyone would!) - but the more she walks in them, the more risk of damage there is.

Since it's her father and there's already antagonism, I'd let her keep them at your house, refuse to let her wear them and then conveniently forget to let them go with her to her father's.

But what the hell was going through his head when he agreed to buy them for her? Especially at that price! Does he often do the "disney dad" thing? Urgh!

Charlie97 · 21/09/2018 06:37

Not suitable for a 12 year old for many reasons, cost, height of heel, look far too grown up.

These are boots clearly aimed at adult women.

YNBU Op

TeddybearBaby · 21/09/2018 06:41

Not for me! Way too grown up. I like it when children stay young. They grow up so fast!

LucheroTena · 21/09/2018 06:49

They look a bit ‘middle aged’ to be honest. I don’t know any teens who would find these boots desirable.

iamawoman · 21/09/2018 06:55

They look too grown up but I suppose that's why she likes them. I would suggest she needs to save her own money if she wants them .....

Racoon100 · 21/09/2018 06:58

Wow cannot believe some people on this thread would actually let a 12 year old child wear these boots!

pilates · 21/09/2018 07:05

No, too old and expensive for her. Most girls I know are in to Nike and adidas trainers.

gamerwidow · 21/09/2018 07:10

Too high for everyday wear but seeing as they can’t go back I’d find a compromise and let her wear them for special occasions and a few hours at the weekend.
Your ex is counting on your getting cross about this and making yourself look like the villain nip it in the bud by not playing his game.

Helpimfalling · 21/09/2018 07:13

I can't see a picture of the boot

colditz · 21/09/2018 07:14

Christ no, they are dreadful for her back

llangennith · 21/09/2018 07:14

Totally inappropriate for a 12 yo and whoever bought them is bonkers or has their own dubious agenda.

llangennith · 21/09/2018 07:15

Put them in the dressing up box

Rudi44 · 21/09/2018 07:17

The heal is far too high, I couldn’t walk in them let alone my 12 yr old

Pebblesandfriends · 21/09/2018 07:17

Not unreasonable at all! They're grown up shoes and she's a child, not even technically a teenager!

Skyejuly · 21/09/2018 07:24

I wouldnt let my 12yr old wear them

explodingkitten · 21/09/2018 07:31

they are very can can

No, the Can can is danced in (dancing) heels to show of the legs. High boots would cut the leg in half and look ridiculous.

I don't know OP. I don't like tge height of the heel but somehow feel that it's not that bad to want a fashionable boot at that age. Can you afford this and a more sensible style shoe at the same time?
