Boots

I would seriously doubt your judgement if you DID let your 12 year old child wear those boots! Totally inappropriate style and also TERRIBLE for her feet.

FullOfJellyBeans · 20/09/2018 18:59

I don't mind about the style (although I would about the price) but the heal does seem too high for a 12 year old.

My reasons are:

  1. Risk of long term damage to her still-developing feet, tendons, knees an back.
  1. They make her look eighteen, not twelve. I think that's inappropriate.

Theyll be really bad for her back imo. Apart from that £170! Is yr dd paying for them? I wouldnt pay this for a 12 year old when they will be growing out of them soon!

Deadringer · 20/09/2018 19:02

They are too grown up looking and the heel is too high for a 12 year old imo. Heels are so bad for your feet, your back and your knees especially for a child that is still growing. No way.

RiverTam · 20/09/2018 19:03

Nope. I’m happy to be That Parent, after all, I am a parent, not a mate. And it gives them something to rebel against Grin.

Fontofnoknowledge · 20/09/2018 19:05

I would pick my battles and this would be one of them.

  1. Ridiculous amount of money for a 12 yr old to spend on any item of clothing.
  2. Far too adult
  3. Too high. Will ruin feet at that age and end up with hammer toes.
  4. Where the hell is a 12 yr old thinking of going that these would be appropriate footwear.
  5. Feet haven't stopped growing yet . Girls feet stop growing a few years after puberty. Average is 14. So another reason why reason 1 applies. They won't even fit her after one winter.
Gatehouse77 · 20/09/2018 19:05

I said no to DD2 when she asked for something similar at that age. And, at nearly 16, I'd still say no if it was coming out of my pocket.

If they're that desperate for them they can earn the money/save up and buy them themselves.

I would never have dreamed of buying her something like this. Unfortunately some else has already purchased them for her.

I suggested that they were not really appropriate and asked if they could be changed but she had already been allowed to wear them outside.

Children's foot bones aren't properly hardened until 16ish. Regardless of the 'image', the risk of damage is too high. Don't get me started on children's shoes that don't bend. Smile

TulipsInBloom1 · 20/09/2018 19:08

At 12 surely shes mainly in school shoes, so just let her attempt to wear them the odd weekend. She will sharp work out they are impractical.

Infact id be tempted to insist on a long family walk somewhere and literally walk her til she refuses to wear them again.

SylvanianFrenemies · 20/09/2018 19:09

Too high.
Too adult.
Too expensive.

Seeing as they can't be returned, stick them on a local selling site or Ebay?

ILoveHumanity · 20/09/2018 19:10

Those who are saying why not are sooo silly .... many reasons

One of which is such high heel affect a growing your girls foot ..

Secondly... I would also tell my son to not wear it so it’s not sexist.. this is too grown up and putting too much effort to fit into the grown world of fashion that was designed to highlight the girls butt movement ..

She doesn’t understand it because she is too young

Esther00 · 20/09/2018 19:10

Wow, is this what 12 year old children are in to nowadays. I'm totally out of touch! But absolutely no way!! This is a style intended to elongate the leg and make the female form more attractive, sexy even. Not a look suitable for a child surely?

Nesssie · 20/09/2018 19:11

I would pull the parent card and just say you don’t find them appropriate and that’s that. If they can’t be returned then try to sell them on and give the money back to whoever bought them.

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 20/09/2018 19:12

I'm not sure about the look - I guess it's hard to explain why you don't want them to wear grown up stuff

I'd be more worried about wearing high heels when you're not finished growing. I've got back problems and the osteopath told me sitting at a desk and wearing high heels were the two worst things for backs. Wearing them when you're still growing must be awful for your feet / legs back etc

kmc1111 · 20/09/2018 19:12

Lol at Timberlands being considered stripper boots. They’re just standard winter boots where I’m from. The brand makes outdoorsy boots and work boots.

If you don’t like the heel then that’s fine, but there’s nothing adult or sexy about the style. They’re just winter lace-ups.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/09/2018 19:12

I imagine you've had words with whoever was fool enough to buy them (or else you've got a badly bitten tongue).

Probably best eBay them while they're almost new, buy her some replacements she likes but which are age appropriate and put the excess in savings for her to buy whatever she wants when she turns 18?

JossWhedonIsAGenius · 20/09/2018 19:14

I have told DD that they are completely inappropriate an that she can't wear them.

She wasn't surprised. I have no doubt she knew exactly how I would react.

OP posts:
Womaningreen · 20/09/2018 19:14

YANBU and who bought them for her? Bonkers.

Juells · 20/09/2018 19:14

EEK! I wouldn't dream of letting a 12-year-old wear those. The heels are too high for young feet, apart from anything else.

Babyroobs · 20/09/2018 19:14

I would not be happy with my just turned 13 year old wearing those.

Wallabyone · 20/09/2018 19:15

No,
I wouldn't allow it, for all the reasons you've mentioned. Too high, inappropriate, and I wouldn't actually like them on an adult-they're not to my taste.

Rhondacross · 20/09/2018 19:15

She's 12! No 12 year old needs to be wearing 4" heels.

neveradullmoment99 · 20/09/2018 19:15

NO way! They look cheap and tarty. They are too high.
