Parents doing all this in after swim class showers?

OK,today after ds swim class the showers were crammed. As usual. Tbh I usually wait til we get home and do a proper shower/ bath. however today I thought I'd quickly shower him to save me doing it later. There were children in there with parents stood outside loaded with shampoos...conditioners ( telling them to leave it on at least 2minutes) body washes...rinsing and generally taking their time despite huge queues of dripping children and parents waiting for their turn..

YABU, you would (or most people would) wash and condition their own hair after a swim to get out the chlorine and mitigate some of the damage/dryness, so why not their child's hair?

HopefullyAnonymous · 13/09/2018 21:05

YANBU. Swimming lessons are the worst. There is a queue out the bloody door for showers and it’s like a full on pamper session. Quick rinse is enough and then a proper shower at home. Drives me up the wall.

Barbie222 · 13/09/2018 21:06

This used to irritate me when I had only sons, but once I had a daughter I was a lot more sympathetic.

garethsouthgatesmrs · 13/09/2018 21:07

YABU They will have waited too so are entitled to take a reasonablr amount of time. Although the leaving of the conditioner for 2 mins is a bit unnecessary for a child.

Really? All I’ve ever done is literally a quick rinse under the water.

garethsouthgatesmrs · 13/09/2018 21:08

AlexanderHamilton i do and so do lots of other people. It's hardly unusual to wash hair after a swim.

theymademejoin · 13/09/2018 21:08

If my dd didn't shower properly after swimming, her eczema would flare up so a quick rinse wouldn't work for her.

Leaving conditioner in for 2 minutes though is ridiculous. You can wash hair, condition it, wash body and then rinse hair and body.

AngkorWaat · 13/09/2018 21:09

Oh lord no, I throw a onesie on them and they shower when we get home. I have a phobia of swimming changing room floors. I remember a swimming related onesie thread kicking off on here though, so that’s another controversial issue...

immortalmarble · 13/09/2018 21:09

I’d never not wash my hair after swimming.

GunpowderGelatine · 13/09/2018 21:09

I hate this too! "Do you want to wash your own hair today Ptolemy?" "come on now darling there are people waiting"

minisoksmakehardwork · 13/09/2018 21:09

I always thoroughly wash myself and dc's and hair after swimming so yabu. I suffer from eczema so leaving chlorinated water on my skin really doesn't do me any favours.

Although I wouldn't stand there conditioning for 2 minutes.

A quicker routine would be wet and hair first, slap on conditioner, wash body while hair conditions. Rinse everything off.

It's not the fact that it's being done but the airy fairy way it's probably being done. If they're anything like my daughter, I can shower myself and her 3 siblings in the time it takes her to do herself (she's 10) if I don't keep on at her to hurry up.

MarthasGinYard · 13/09/2018 21:10

Are they the mingers that then put on Onesies, after sitting around the changing rooms and car in them then wear them for bed.

Grim

PumpkinPie2016 · 13/09/2018 21:10

Some do this at the pool where DS has lessons.

It doesn't really bother me as such as we can generally get a shower.

I tend to just do a quick rinse and then a proper bath or shower at home - largely because I can't stand the humid changing rooms!

BrutusMcDogface · 13/09/2018 21:11

This is what I do and everyone else in the world, no?!

Yanbu. I bloody hate swimming lessons.

Ellieboolou27 · 13/09/2018 21:12

YABU, I wash my dd’s hair, it’s very long and she takes ages to wash it out, around 10 mins in total, why would I bother with the faff of drying her then going home to shower.

Never bother to look at what other parents / kids are doing.

thereareflowersinmygarden · 13/09/2018 21:13

I'd like to know how they manage it.

I have a 22 month bolter and just getting dry and dressed is hard enough....

DerekTheBrave · 13/09/2018 21:13

I often showered the dc ‘properly’ after swimming just to save a job later...I doubt many people hang around longer than necessary.

Blobfishlady · 13/09/2018 21:14

That would piss me off too. There are a row of communal showers at our local pool. Most siblings share a shower but there’s always a couple of families that stand there with a shower each, chattering away, slowly passing the shampoo, then conditioner, then body wash down the line. Meanwhile a queue of children are shivering and dripping.

OrchidInTheSun · 13/09/2018 21:14

10 minutes Ellie?! There's no way I takes 10 minutes to wash and condition a child's hair

NoMudNoLotus · 13/09/2018 21:14

YABU

Their DC , their choice. If you dont like it dont shower yours at all and go home.

Nothisispatrick · 13/09/2018 21:15

I prefer going home for my showers, I rinse then clip my hair up and have a lovely private clean shower when I’m home. However some ladies at my gym do a full blown wash and naked moisturising routine, leg up on the bench getting in to those nooks and crannies. That’s fine for them, I’d rather do it at home.

Thankfully my gym has no kids lessons.

iamnotanumber10 · 13/09/2018 21:16

YABU - 2 kids with eczema prone skin, and we do early eve lessons and there’s no way my kids want to have a bath when they get home. And it’s not good for their skin. So they quick shower with shampoo/body wash.

Blobfishlady · 13/09/2018 21:16

ellie does it really take 10 minutes to wash in the shower? I have boob length, thick, curly hair which is nearly down to my bum when wet. It takes 2 minutes to wash it. Drying it and brushing it takes bloody hours but I wouldn’t stand in the shower doing that obviously!

Chwaraeteg · 13/09/2018 21:16

Yanbu.

However, do you people who wash your body before washing out your conditioner not find that you get terrible acne on your arse from doing so?

iamnotanumber10 · 13/09/2018 21:16

We don’t take a second longer than necessary, I doubt anyone else does either.
