Parents doing all this in after swim class showers?

Whirlwindheadache · 13/09/2018 20:56

OK,today after ds swim class the showers were crammed. As usual. Tbh I usually wait til we get home and do a proper shower/ bath. however today I thought I'd quickly shower him to save me doing it later. There were children in there with parents stood outside loaded with shampoos...conditioners ( telling them to leave it on at least 2minutes) body washes...rinsing and generally taking their time despite huge queues of dripping children and parents waiting for their turn..

Private lessons are the way to go. They’re not that expensive... about the cost of 10 group lessons.

For two lessons you have a child who can swim

Then you can go swimming with them in an off peak time, and take whatever time you like in the empty change rooms.

Booboo66 · 16/09/2018 17:26

I’m just surprised that parents go in the changing rooms. When I had swimming lessons we all just used to pile in the shower together and get on with it. We didn’t need our parents to wash us

My DD started swimming lessons at 2.5 - should I have really just left her to it?

Lethaldrizzle · 16/09/2018 17:48

Yes it's selfish

MakeAWhish · 16/09/2018 17:56

YABU. Now my kids are older (6 & 9) and have long, thick, wavy hair, if they don't wash and condition it after swimming, it's gross and matted by the time we get home. So, to make my life easier, I don't mind leaving people waiting.
Mind you, at our local swimming pool there are 6 communal showers and you can see them from the pool. I always wait till they are empty before we get out and piss everybody off do our thang.

Iseveryusernametaken · 16/09/2018 18:22

There seems to be a lot of people very passionate about immediate hair washing. If it's that much of an issue, why not buy a swimming cap. That's what we have to do for school lesson. No teacher is going to be able to carefully wash and condition the hair of 30 kids 😂

MakeAWhish · 16/09/2018 18:38

@iseveryusernamtaken I only have 2 kids, not 30. I rarely see other kids with swimming caps on, outside of school lessons. I can't say I'm passionate about hair washing after swimming, it's not something I've given much thought to until today. It works for us, and we've never had a queue around us.

Booboo66 · 16/09/2018 19:09

I’m not passionate, I just can’t be bothered to do it again when the opportunity is there. Swim night classes as a bath noght in our busy household

Swim night classes as a bath noght in our busy household

Everyone is busy. Buy swim caps and if you become aware that you are hogging the shower, try and move it along a bit.

Booboo66 · 17/09/2018 10:10

Why would I buy swim caps when I want to use the opportunity tonwash her hair as there are 4nights in a row in the week we get home too late to do it. As I said we are ways at the back of the queue thanks to faffy dd1 standing about chatting to the instructor or anyone else after the lesson so no one behind us to hold up. Happy to wait patiently for those in front though then go through the hassle of changing and showering 2 kids when we get home at 8pm

Ljlsmum · 17/09/2018 10:19

All those that do a full shower at the pool- don’t you feel grim showering in the costume? You can’t actually get properly clean with the costume on anyway so a quick rinse off, get home and proper shower at home without a costume getting in the way makes way more sense to me. Plus I want her feet cleaning and putting on my floor rather than the usually grotty swimming pool floor.

Miladymilord · 17/09/2018 10:21

If you are using swimming as a reason to wash your.kids long thick hair then PLEASE use a swim cap. Filters don't clean themselves you know.

MarthasGinYard · 17/09/2018 10:21

'don’t you feel grim showering in the costume? '

I always think this

Crackedvase · 17/09/2018 10:22

Meh. Home for showers here. My ex worked at our local pool for the first few years we dated. His stories Confused

MarthasGinYard · 17/09/2018 10:23

I know

I can't imagine all this long thick hair goes in the bin

Next we'll hear that it NEVER ever comes out Grin

RollaCola84 · 17/09/2018 14:22

Oh my god are people being deliberately obtuse ?? OP isn't saying don't shower after swimming just that a full body wash, shampoo and conditioner in a small number of showers is inconsiderate, and I agree. In my opinion if a shower is a push button for water for a set period of time only that's it's for a quick rinse not a proper wash. If there are only a few showers then it's for a quick rinse

My gym has four shower cubicles in its main changing room. I have a quick rinse to get the sweat off and shower properly if necessary when I get home. I'm amazed and occasionally irritated by people who take a cubicle for upwards of ten minutes washing, exfoliating, shaving (!!!!),conditioning etc.

MarklahMarklah · 18/09/2018 08:09

Love the suggestion that says, if you don't like it, go elsewhere.
For some of us, there is no elsewhere that's affordable. I can't afford £50 per month gym fees, but I can scrape together £6 or £7 for a swimming lesson. Besides which, I would rather my money went to a small, local business than a big corporate.
Money aside, a little courtesy with shower use wouldn't go amiss. If there's a great long queue of shivering children behind you, rinse and go if it is at all possible.

AllTakenSoRubbishUsername · 07/10/2018 17:42

You have to wash the chlorine out, and then if there's even a chance of getting a comb through my hair then conditioner is vital, but I'm fast at getting it all done and my kids use the 2-in-1 so we spend 4-5 mins in there max. There should be more showers, it's more a problem about that than the people using them.

A580Hojas · 07/10/2018 17:46

Ugh, who wants to do their showering in the average public swimming pool shower anyway?

Yanbu op, of course it is selfish to take lots of time and cause queues.

bigKiteFlying · 07/10/2018 17:59

I had a new one today - my child couldn't get from the showers to me and the lockers - as the crowd of parents waiting with towels and bottles to wash their children in showers was huge and wouldn’t bloody budge completely blocked the exit from showers.

Her and another child were saying excuse me and being ignored – I got ignored too and had to get very loud and use feet and elbows to get her through.

We got the last free cubicle as well as all full of people clothes despite signs saying don’t do this. We are changing days to a quieter one as it's just got worse and worse.

bigKiteFlying · 07/10/2018 18:03

You exit the pool via the showers - (or a door to outside car park which is usually kept closed and isn't very vsisble frorm viewing area) so they really should have realised the problem before it happened.

MarvellousMayhem · 19/10/2018 06:46

YANBU, I think OP is not annoyed about people having a quick shower its the ones taking their own sweet time! I only rinse my kids off at the pool and then a proper wash at home.

Lethaldrizzle · 19/10/2018 06:48

Why does one have to wash the chlorine out immediately? Especially kids hair?!

MarvellousMayhem · 19/10/2018 06:49

Rollacola84 Ugh shaving? gross. I have also seen people clipping toenails- [spew]

Processedpea · 19/10/2018 06:52

We used to have to use swimming hats which stopped all the hair washing fuss

Disneydilemma · 19/10/2018 06:56

One of the benefits of swimming lessons is not having to do bath/shower when we get home!
I make sure mine are clean and have hair washed afterwards but don’t faff with conditioner etc. It only takes a minute. Mine are usually towards the back of the queue anyway as they dawdle!
