Parents doing all this in after swim class showers?

Whirlwindheadache · 13/09/2018 20:56

OK,today after ds swim class the showers were crammed. As usual. Tbh I usually wait til we get home and do a proper shower/ bath. however today I thought I'd quickly shower him to save me doing it later. There were children in there with parents stood outside loaded with shampoos...conditioners ( telling them to leave it on at least 2minutes) body washes...rinsing and generally taking their time despite huge queues of dripping children and parents waiting for their turn..

Why don't all these kids with long, thick or curly hair wear shower caps? Or in plaits? No need for all the bloody rigmarole with two bottles into the shower and endless combing after.

MazDazzle · 13/09/2018 22:18

I don’t know how anyone could be arsed to sit through the torture of a swimming lesson, and being presented with an already wet and more or less clean child, dry them off, get them dressed, and go home and then give them a bath/shower.

My thoughts exactly!

I make sure my kids step away from the shower while they shampoo/condition their hair so another kid can quickly nip under the water. I wouldn’t let them hog a shower, but no way could I be arsed going through the whole palaver at home!

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 13/09/2018 22:20

Massive x post there.

As you were.

DisappearingGirl · 13/09/2018 22:22

Yes! I have thought this many times! If there's no queue ... then of course, take as long as you want. But if there's a queue of shivering children then please hurry up and don't stand there giving instructions to put on product after product!

NotTheFordType · 13/09/2018 22:22

Showers are for getting clean. As in rinsing off the chlorine from every body part which will dry up in protest if the chlorine isn't rinsed off quick.

I learned this lesson in person when my then BF and I used to go for a "quick swim" at the local baths then fuck in the unisex changing rooms.

onemouseplace · 13/09/2018 22:23

We currently have two working showers in the female changing at our pool, so it is a bit of a scrum. Mine bob in quickly - I get them to wash their hair (with me supervising rinsing) - then get them out and use leave in conditioner after their hair has been towel dried which I comb through.

We are in and out of the shower in under a minute.

It isn't the space you take up @EskiVodkaCranberry. It's the shower space your son is using when he shouldnt be. He should be in the males. (I'm assuming you're saying your 8 yo son showers in the females though you haven't directly said that)
If so, I was right, freezing girls because males are taking up the female space.

HarrietSchulenberg · 13/09/2018 22:30

Used to drive me potty when mine had swimming lessons. 3 showers and all occupied by princesses having full on showers for 10+ mins. I just got mine dry and dressed then showered at home as the other option was to wait around for half an hour while the entitled families hogged the hot water.

Same families used to leave all their clothes in the cubicles, rather than use the lockers, to save their space. I used to dump their stuff on the benches and use the cubicle while they showered. We were usually done and gone before they returned.

TheWinterofOurDiscountTentsMk2 · 13/09/2018 22:33

Thick as shit, ignorant bastards.Tight as arseholes as well, they should use their own hot water at home.Actually they should just stay at home

You need a fucking hobby. And probably valium..

MarthasGinYard · 13/09/2018 22:34

'Same families used to leave all their clothes in the cubicles, rather than use the lockers, '

This is a big thing at our local pool

The staff empty out the cubicles now so they can't leave their stuff there for the whole lesson

Whirlwindheadache · 13/09/2018 22:36

It was the whole point of the TIME they were taking..I appreciate some have skin conditions but these were just arsing around. Not just girls either. They are cubicled showers, with some letting children shower alone whilst they were gassing. They were dillydallying around like it was a pamper session with all different types of body washes too. Not once did the parents speed them along as I would've done, instead blatantly taking forever. And THEN they'd be washing the costumes in the sinks chatting away!! A few actually walked off they'd waited that long. It's meant to be a quick shower. I'm not saying DON'T shower just be reasonable giving there's a massive queue!!!!

All the bloody time when DD has a swimming lesson. There are three showers. There are 7 kids in her group. All of them except DD seem to do a full body wash, shampoo, conditioner, etc then spend an age blow-drying their hair.
We rinse and go.

TheWinterofOurDiscountTentsMk2

I have a hobby - swimming.

Its quite relaxing.

And I say no to drugs.

They make people rather boring I find.

TheWinterofOurDiscountTentsMk2 · 13/09/2018 22:41

Boring? Possible. Less rabidly offensively insane, definitely.

Easynow · 13/09/2018 22:47

I dont have alcohol withdrawal symptoms or anxiety. Therefore I shall pass on the Valium. Thank you for the offer though. I was always taught not to accept sweeties from strangers.

I like swimming, but not the showers.

InionEile · 13/09/2018 22:49

Our swimming pool where my kids get their lessons has a sign on the door of the family showers (the ones with changing rooms included inside) that says 'Restrict showers to 2 minutes only please'. That makes sense to me. It reminds people to be considerate of others. Not sure what you can do if people choose to ignore it and be selfish though!

My daughter has long hair that is very thick and is only 3 so I have to wash it for her but I still only give her a shampoo not conditioner etc. It's only once a week so it won't ruin her hair.

Maybe the kids that are taking longer are in competitive swim teams or something so they have to swim every day and then need to condition regularly or else their hair gets damaged from the chlorine?

Whirlwindheadache · 13/09/2018 22:55

Nope they're not. It's a once a week young children's swim class. Once a week.... Just a quick rinse down would suffice. Lads with shaven buzz cuts too.. Yet the mums armed with several shampoos conditioners etc. OTT

TheWinterofOurDiscountTentsMk2 · 13/09/2018 22:57

I don't actually believe you meet multiple people using more than one shampoo and conditioner on a child. I think you are severely hyperbolic.

Rebecca36 · 13/09/2018 23:01

I did go swimming with child sometimes but actual swimming lessons were organised by the school and no parent went. How they got on with showering and dressing I really don't know, never thought about it, only cared that bathing costume and towel were put in waterproof bag and brought home. The idea of a load of mums in attendance seems unreal to me. Is it a new phenomenon?

Stupomax · 13/09/2018 23:02

I hated pretty much everything about group swimming lessons. They seemed to be designed to torture parents, especially anyone with smaller children to manage while trying to get the swimming lesson child ready for swimming, into the pool, out of the pool, showered, dressed.

We just gave up on lessons, and went swimming a lot with the kids instead.

@TheWinterofOurDiscountTentsMk2 people on this very thread have said they do it Confused

Nope. I've just read the whole thing through to check and not one person has said that. None.

Festivecheer26 · 13/09/2018 23:42

@Wheresthel1ght - what do you do if there's a long queue for the showers when your DD comes out of the pool?

SD1978 · 14/09/2018 00:38

Eczema kid here- she needs to be properly washed otherwise we get a flare up as her skin dries out. And I'm not doing that, then washing hair when we get home. If we could just stick on a towel and go, we would. Also lessons are after school, we get home and have dinner at 6. Add in a shower, bedtime would be blown out. I get why it's annoying- but everyone is just doing what works for their kid best.
