Parents doing all this in after swim class showers?

OK,today after ds swim class the showers were crammed. As usual. Tbh I usually wait til we get home and do a proper shower/ bath. however today I thought I'd quickly shower him to save me doing it later. There were children in there with parents stood outside loaded with shampoos...conditioners ( telling them to leave it on at least 2minutes) body washes...rinsing and generally taking their time despite huge queues of dripping children and parents waiting for their turn..

If there’s a queue of people it’s reasonable to modify your preferred behaviour to be decent to others.

EskiVodkaCranberry · 13/09/2018 21:57

What do I do with my eight year old son then Confused

redsummershoes · 13/09/2018 21:59

yanbu
that's what 2in1 is for.

I do shower after swimming, (uk) pools are minging.

CherryPavlova · 13/09/2018 21:59

Depends on age of children. Over six or seven should be sorting themselves out.

Cblockbitch · 13/09/2018 22:00

I just rinse DS no soap. Don't even bother with a home shower, why would you?

Willow2017 · 13/09/2018 22:01

This used to drive me nuts too when my kids had lessons.

Queue of freezing kids waiting for others to get a move on, others showering before going in, parents giving instuctions from the sides to thier small kids to wash this wash that do your hair twice...just get a shower and move on ffs. If your kid cant manage themselves either help or take them home. There is no.need for the rest to have to stand dripping and cold for 10 minutes.
We ended up going home for a shower every week as my kids were always frozen.

There is only one set of showers for all to use.

This made me chuckle as Mumsnetters are exactly the bunch of people who do exactly what you are moaning about OP 😜. Know your audience!!!

Miladymilord · 13/09/2018 22:01

It doesnt take you 20 minutes to wash your dds hair in the shower then does it fraula? What you do afterwards is up to you.

arethereanyleftatall · 13/09/2018 22:02

@EskiVodkaCranberry
He goes in the males on his own and you wait outside, is what you should do with him.

Ellieboolou27 · 13/09/2018 22:03

Yes I can assure you it takes her 10 minutes in the shower to wash and rinse her hair, I don’t even condition it, just spray it when she’s out. Fucking hate swimming lessons for this reason.

OK then I guess you have to put up with a lot of frosty looks! I think I'd cut my dds hair if it was that hard work.

Flaskfan · 13/09/2018 22:07

I'm here to . Save the day. Dd has long curly hair. I whack on a load of thick conditioner BEFORE she swims. Shower is then just shampoo, quick, qui c k, quick. Since ds managed to wash and dress himself fine on cub camp, he now goes to male change.

theSnuffster · 13/09/2018 22:08

My DD showers after swimming. I can only think of one time in 3 years that there was a queue, usually there are only 3 or 4 children and there's 6 showers. She only has conditioner on her hair so it doesn't take long at all- she likes to take her time but I'm so hot and bothered by that point that I hurry her along.

She also wears her pyjamas or onesie home- haven't read that thread so not sure what crime I've committed there 😂

Shoppingwithmother · 13/09/2018 22:09

I don’t know how anyone could be arsed to sit through the torture of a swimming lesson, and being presented with an already wet and more or less clean child, dry them off, get them dressed, and go home and then give them a bath/shower.

I give them a quick shampoo though and off we go - no leaving conditioner on for 2 minutes.

Just as an aside, Martha’s, what is so minging about wearing something in the car and then going to bed in it? (Assuming it was clean when you put in on) Are your beds sterile and may get contaminated with car germs?

Aridane · 13/09/2018 22:12

YABU, I wash my dd’s hair, it’s very long and she takes ages to wash it out, around 10 mins in total, why would I bother with the faff of drying her then going home to shower.

Do people not use swimming caps?

Shoppingwithmother · 13/09/2018 22:13

Flaskfan - I’m not sure that would save the day - surely it would just fuck up the pool with all the conditioner scum floating on the surface if everyone did that?

Miladymilord · 13/09/2018 22:13

If its that long I bloody hope she wears a cap!

Miladymilord · 13/09/2018 22:14

The conditioner first is a good idea. If you wear a swim cap then none gets in the pool

MarthasGinYard · 13/09/2018 22:14

'surely it would just fuck up the pool with all the conditioner scum floating on the surface if everyone did that?'

I'm taking it her dc wears a swimming cap

No one is that grim surely

MiniCooperLover · 13/09/2018 22:14

I agree OP, this is so bloody annoying. Those showers are for a quick rinse off and leaving other kids stood there getting cold is really bad. I don't even bother trying anymore.

Shoppingwithmother · 13/09/2018 22:16

Water still gets in and out of a swimming cap - hair is still wet when come out of the pool with a cap on

EskiVodkaCranberry · 13/09/2018 22:17

There are girls and boys on his swim team all between 8-10, think I take up as much room waiting by the showers as the mums of girls do.

BrickByBrick · 13/09/2018 22:17

I shower my dd, there is rarely a massive queue, - a mixture of children having quick showers, some having washes and some going into the loos to use the proper cubicles.

Her lesson is 6-6.30, even without the proper shower it is 7 by the time we get back, it is much better to shower her and put her in her pj's there and then she can just be going straight to bed.

Miladymilord · 13/09/2018 22:17

Dds hair is not wet. Only the bits th at stick out.
