AIBU to be gay and dislike the term LGBT

Just that, really. Why do gay people have to be lumped in with trans people? As far as I see it my sexuality has nothing to do with trans issues.

My gay friend also has issues with this too

beenandgoneandbackagain · 13/09/2018 11:51

YANBU. I'm not sure what same sex attraction has to do with AGP or disphoria.

CrochetBelle · 13/09/2018 11:55

YANBU

Isn't one of the main concerns right now that the current trans-culture is sexually motivated?

lesbian -- f attracted to f
gay -- m attracted to m
bisexual -- m/f attracted to both
trans -- OH NOE WE ARE NOT SEXUALLY MOTIVATED AT ALL!!! Nowt to do with sexual attraction, no sir!

NothingOnTellyAgain · 13/09/2018 11:58

lesbian -- f attracted to f
gay -- m attracted to m
bisexual -- m/f attracted to both

This is deemed transphobic. Gential fetishism.

Quangot · 13/09/2018 12:04

YANBU

GeraldineFangedVagine · 13/09/2018 12:05

I’m gay and I agree.

Racecardriver · 13/09/2018 12:06

YANBU. I find it quite strange that they should be lumped on together.

EverardDigby · 13/09/2018 12:08

YANBU. I am bi but there's no way I'd get involved with anything LGBT at the moment.

nopeni · 13/09/2018 12:08

It's clever marketing by the trans movement because society's taken decades to become more open/tolerant/actually welcoming of gay people.

They've effectively gone in guns blazing saying "you don't want to get it wrong at us like you did for them, do you?"

And every woke person has leapt up with a "oh god no, welcome and whatever you want, just say".

MissusGeneHunt · 13/09/2018 12:10

YANBU - a gay friend of mine abhors the 'lumping together'. He still doesn't understand why he even needs any label or categorisation because he doesn't feel defined by what happens in the bedroom or in his heart. He is solely 'Rodney' (if that were his name, but you know what I mean). Can't blame him.

Another thing - when are these acronyms going to stop adding more letters?! I can't work them out anymore!

NothingOnTellyAgain · 13/09/2018 12:10

It's taken over all LGB stuff and all womens / feminist stuff all over the place.

In my workplace teh LGBT initiatives are all about the T
Also anythign to do with women
All D&I stuff basically is only for T these days.

nopeni · 13/09/2018 12:13

Ironically at least some people in the trans movement are deeply homophobic and sexist.

Like men? You're a woman deep down!

Like women? You're a man deep down!

Man identifying as woman who likes women? Then lesbians must accept you sexually or they're transphobic.

Woman identifying as man who likes men? No thanks, fuck off.

Change and comply!

Lesbian & completely with you.

Eminybob · 13/09/2018 12:22

Why is the argument always against lesbians not wanting to sleep with transwomen?
You hear about TRAs getting up in arms about gay men not wanting to sleep with transmen? Or straight men not wanting to sleep with transwomen?
Oh hang on, I know why.

Eminybob · 13/09/2018 12:23

*You don’t hear

fanfan18 · 13/09/2018 12:23

Haven't they added "Q" to the end of the acronym now too? LGBTQ?

I thought "Queer" was actually a derogatory term until I saw LGBTQ

Confused.

GhostPerfume · 13/09/2018 12:24

Agree

Rebecca36 · 13/09/2018 12:25

You're not unreasonable at all but PLEASE don't think up another acronym - can't keep up with ones we have already!

IAmSproutycus · 13/09/2018 12:25

Frankly I'm not all that excited about the fBi (female Bisexual) and L being in with the G. The G seem to do very little for us, and I've stopped going to Pride for exactly that reason.

beenandgoneandbackagain · 13/09/2018 12:26

Q usually means a heterosexual person who may or may not have blue or green hair, and may or may not once have pecked someone of the opposite SEX on the lips. Funnily enough, I know a handful of people who identified as Queer, and all are in relationships with other Queer people of the opposite sex. Confused

SneakyGremlins · 13/09/2018 12:28

Gay here and I hate it.

It's LGBT. Nothing more. Queer for some of us is still a slur so I don't want it on the acronym personally.

If trans people have their own pride flag they can get their own acronym.

EverardDigby · 13/09/2018 12:29

I hate the term queer because I'm old enough to remember it regularly being used as an insult, sometimes accompanied by violence, and I don't think I'll ever get over that conditioning.

Thomlin · 13/09/2018 12:29

Totally agree with you! I had this thought just the other day where I saw it mentioned and wondered what the T had to do with everyone else.
